SPORTS HANDBALL by Dobmy oHnekjol sDRuossádny,78bB My name is Dusán and I’m a member of the Budaörs-Handball U-14 team consisting of 20 people. My team plays in Hungary´s First League. Actually we are 4th in the championship but we still have the whole season ahead of us. I train six times a week. Every weekend I’ve got two matches all over the country. Our training program is hard, but no pain, no gain. We prepare ourselves for every opponent to achieve the best results. I´m proud to be part of this team and I enjoy playing handball and being on tour every weekend. For the future I wish to stay healthy and to play in the higher leagues. HHOPp-I I have been dancing Hip-Hop since September of by Szonja Kruzics Tajthy, 6b last year and I really like it. My teacher is awesome and I like him a lot. My trainings are on Wednesdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays we sometimes do break dancing and that is my favourite kind of dance. Our club‘s name is NRG and we`ve already got a gold and a bronze medal. This year we are going to a competition and I hope we will not just win a silver medal. A gold would be much better. Last year there was a small in-house competition and my team and I got a silver medal. I got a special dance prize too. I was really happy about it. I hope this year there will be an in-house competition too. At the beginning of each summer there‘s a week-long camp. Last year I went to this camp and it was amazing. We danced 4-5 hours daily and at the end we had a show where we performed the dances we learned in the camp. Our parents came and they saw what we had done. I really like NRG because, as I said, it‘s awesome! R U N N I N G by Barnabás Ádám, 8c On September 29th, 2018, I took part in a running competition. It took place at Lake Ba- laton. We spent a night at our friends’ house in Balatonszemes before the race in order to be completely fit the next day. My father, another friend and I started the race at 10 min- utes past ten. It was quite windy although the sun was shining. I chose to run the 10.5 km distance because 3.5 km was too short and 21 km was a bit long for me. At the beginning I didn’t know how fast I would have to run. First, I followed my father but then I overtook him. Honestly I had put on too many clothes, because in the morning it was chilly, but soon I wasn’t cold anymore. My first 2 km were just moderately fast so I made the next 5 km even faster to overtake more runners. Then we had to run a further 3.5 km to the finish on the shore of Balaton and that was really windy. My plan was to get faster for the last kilometre but I could manage it only on the last 100 metres. Even though I was really tired the last 3 km, at the end I felt like I could run more. The truth is that I was really happy because it was my first 10.5 km race. I really enjoyed it and after the competition I felt really cool. In my category - every male under 40 - I was 25th of 65. My time was 54 minutes and 25 seconds. Running is a good sport; you just need endurance, practice, willpower and, after that, success is coming.
Hungarian Synchronized Swimming National Team by Emi Kozma, 8c Synchronized swimming is a very beautiful but difficult sport. You have to be strong, flexible and dynamic. You have to have good co-ordination and you also have to have a strong personality. I have been doing this sport since I was 4 years old and since then I have been in a club called Meduza 21. But since May, 2017, I have also been on the Hungarian national team. On normal school days we train six times a week for three to four hours. In the summer we have six, six-hour trainings a week. Sometimes we spend all six hours in the water which is really difficult for us. Every year we compete in the world championships in our age group (13 – 15). This summer the championships took place in Seville, Spain. The federation told us that our team has both placed and scored the highest ever achieved by any Hungarian team in our age group. In the team competition we were 8th in the world. We also went to a competition in Austria which was great. Next year we will also go to the world championships but we are not sure yet were it will take place. I really recommend this sport for all girls. WAT E R P O L O by Tomi Tiboldi, 7b My name is Tomi Tiboldi and I play water polo in the YBL-club. I think it is a good sport for me. I started playing water polo this year and I play with my classmate Marci. We train 4 or 5 times a week. Sometimes we have matches too. My trainer is very good . This is my story of water polo.
Te n n i s by Alexa Kutos, 8b The summer vacation elapsed too soon. I took part in loads of smashing and gripping adventures. I tried new types of sports, not to mention tennis, which gave me the utmost success. It was the very first week of the sunny break when my parents told me that I could go to a tennis camp, located near Normafa. On the first day I had butterflies in my stomach because I didn’t want to look like a cripple or a loser. After the warm-up (it consisted of gymnastics), which went with a swing, the work with the racquet began. Forehand, backhand and we had to bounce and do a hop-scotch. I felt like my wrist would break, my tibia was burning. But I gritted my teeth. Every day I made a step forward. Our trainer complimented my progress, but the most amazing thing was that, the intramural competition in the progressive category, I reached 3rd place out of 10 competitors. Moreover, the teacher from my group had a personal conversation with my parents. He said that I have a head for tennis and said that it’s worth developing. So I have decided to take tennis lessons. My coach, a young tennis player, gave me private lessons. But what I really valued is that he gave me his old tennis racquet. Nowadays, tennis is my favourite sport. It gives me so much joy. I hope to become a great player someday. The best sport in the world! by Vivien Debrei, 6b I’m a diver. I really like it. It’s so fun and it’s very interesting. I always jump from either the 3 meter or 1 meter diving board. My training is every weekday in the Duna Arena. My training always starts at 4 o’clock. I have 6 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals which I won in local competitions. We jumped from 1, 3, 5, 7.5 and 10 meters. This is the best sport of the world.
BOOKS AND MOVIES The Greatest Book of all Time! The Good Place How do you know a book is really good? I think it is The Good Place is a series on Netflix. I found it one year important how many people read it or even re-read it. And ago and I put it on my list to watch, but I never watched how many times has someone done that? I found somebody the trailer. 1 week ago I watched the trailer and I loved it! on the internet who has read the whole Harry Potter series The series is about a woman named Eleanor who is dead. thirty (!) times. I don’t know if it is true but I know it took She woke up in the good place (there’s also a bad place but me six years to read it eight times. I cheated with book we won’t talk about that. It’s like heaven and hell). So she number eight because one time my father read it to me. The woke up and Michael (God) says she is a good person, but series has seven books and more than three thousand pages! she isn’t. Eleanor told her soulmate that she doesn’t belong You could ask me why I am reading it the ninth time now? here. Obviously, if Michael finds out that she doesn’t belong J. K. Rowling (the writer) created a whole fantasy world here, he would send her to the bad place. When Eleanor with witches and magicians who fight against the evil does something bad, bad things happen, like, for example, magician (Voldemort) and they win in the end. This world is bananas fall from the sky and more crazy things. I don’t so full of creativity and funny characters that you can’t stop want to tell you anything more but it gets crazy. You must reading them. You must simply start reading them! simply start reading them! by Emma Faller, 6b by Timur Novák,7a
by Alexa Gabora, 8a Everyone loves superheroes like Spiderman, Ironman or Thor…but I have another favorite and he’s Captain America. And how did I become a fan? Well, if someone would ask me, I really don’t know. It has come so fast, I didn’t even recognize that I had became a fan of this incredible superhero. As far as I remember the first Captain America movie (Captain America: The First Avenger) was the very first time I had sat down and decided to watch a superhero movie. Of course, I’d seen all the other heroes before, but Captain America seemed to be just a guy with a shield and super strength. But when I was watching the movie I was really excited about how it would end and, after it ended, I couldn’t stop myself from watching the sequel (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) and the third (Captain America: Civil War) over the following days. They’re simply amazing. The character of Captain America (also known as Steve Rogers) is such an interesting one. The others are cool too but there are many reasons I find him the best. Even if he wasn’t a very muscular and strong man before the serum, which was given him to become a super soldier, he always had a big heart and wanted to fight for his home and his mates. After all, I’m a big fan of Steve Rogers and Chris Evans who have already played Captain America in 8 MCU movies. I have almost everything a “Team Cap” fan could need, but his shield and Chris’ signature are still missing from my collection. I hope I’ll get them one day. by Lujza Péczely-Tallai, Emma Bolza & Zsófia Brunn, 8a The Marvel Cinematic Universe is an American media franchise and shared universe that is centered on a series of super-hero films, independently produced by Marvel Studios and based on characters that appear in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The MCU has three phases right now, the fourth will start in 2019 with the movie Spider-Man: Far From Home. The first film released in the MCU was Iron Man (2008), which began the first phase of the films. Phase One ended with the movie Avengers (2012). In the film, Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), director of the spy agency S.H.I.E.L.D., recruits Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) to form a team that must stop Thor’s brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) from subjugating Earth. Phase Two began with Iron Man 3 (2013), and concluded with Ant-Man (2015). The second phase’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is the sequel to 2012’s The Avengers. In the film, the Avengers fight Ultron, an artificial intelligence ob- sessed with causing human extinction. The films are currently in Phase Three, which began with the release of Captain America: Civil War (2016). The third phase’s Avengers: Infinity War is the sequel to 2012’s The Avengers and 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. In the film, the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy attempt to stop Thanos from amassing the all-powerful Infinity Stones. Phase Three is set to conclude with the untitled Avengers film, currently called Avengers 4 and directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. It is intended to be the direct sequel to 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War. The film was announced in October 2014 as Avengers: Infinity War - Part 2. In July 2016, however, Marvel changed the film´s title, referring to it simply as Untitled Anvengers film. Filming began in August 2017 at Pinewood Atlanta Studios and ended in January 2018.
HOBBIES My Pets by Charlotte Kim Yura, 6a I have three pets. Two of them are guinea pigs. I also have a horse. My two guinea pigs, Csubi and Manó, arrived last year. I really wanted a horse for Christmas but I knew I would never get one so I asked for guinea pigs instead. Of course my sister also wanted one. We picked them up 6 days after Christmas. I think it is very im- portant to get a pet from an animal shelter and NOT from a pet store. When we got home they just looked around at first. They needed a day to get used to their new environment. Most of the pet store cages are too small. The cage should be minimum 100 cm by 50 cm. The best solution is to make a home made cage. They need fresh vegetables to eat and fresh water and hay every day. It is also important to let them out of their cage. My horse is called Kesű. He is 20 years old and is a gelding. I visit him 3 - 4 times a week. He is a jumping horse. I keep him in Pilisvörösvár. My trainer is called Luca and she helps me a lot. He really likes to rush at fences, so he is not the easiest to ride. Kesű is a really cute horse and I hope we will have a long journey ahead of us. Coin magic, card magic, magic with ropes. There are many kinds of magic. I really like doing and watching magic as well. In Hungary there are and were a lot of famous and successful magicians. For example, Harry Houdini, one of the best magicians of all times, was born in Budapest in 1874. Later he became famous in America with his marvelous escape acts. One of his most successful acts was when he was buried alive and he escaped! In the present day there is also a successful Hungarian magician called Soma Hajnóczy who won the world championship in China three years ago. Among other things, he uses mobile phones and tablets for his magic. After once watching a magic show I decided to learn magic myself. I started to learn it from the internet. Once, when I went to a magic shop for a new deck of cards, I was invited to a course. Since that time I have been going to this course every week. I personally like card magic best but I also like coin magic very much. To make a coin vanish and then appear out of nowhere is just a small part of it. by Bálint Alföldi, 7a
Emirates Boeing 777 by Mirkó Újházi & Benedek Stickl, 6a Mirko’s father works on a Emirates Boeing 777. He flies form Budapest to Dubai. The Emirates 777 is the biggest plane in Budapest. Let’s talk about the plane! This plane is also called tripple seven. The 777 is the biggest plane with two engines . This Boeing is made with 3D technology . The plane can carry 440 passengers and can fly for about 18 hours. This plane has got 4 stewardesses and 2 pilots, one of them is the captain and the second one is the first officer. Emirates has got 200 Boeing 777s on order. The 777 is our favourite plane. Photography by Bence Budai, 6a I really like photography. I think photography is more like an art for sharing your thoughts with someone than just shooting pictures of your cat. You can say anything with photography. You can tell happy, sad or funny stories. You can tell how beautiful your city is or how wild your home is. The most beautiful thing about photography is that if you do it well everybody can feel what you want to show them. I only just started photography but I already can see the stories behind the things. Photography is not cheap. A professional camera can cost more than $5,000 without a lens and lenses can cost even more. You have a lot of settings on your camera such as ISO and so on which can affect the exposure. The most loveable dog in the world by Eszter Kálmán-Szilágyi, 6a When I was little I really wanted a dog. I watched lots and lots of movies and videos about dogs. I loved them with all my heart. And I still love them. But once I saw the cutest dog in the world and it became one of my favorites. It’s called a Border Collie. They have medium or long white fur. They sometimes have black spots on their fur and occasionally have some brown coloring. Also, they are really cute and smart. They are the smartest dogs in the world. And the cutest as well. Sadly my father is allergic to dogs so we don’t have one.
STIKEEZ by Zita Muszka & Sophie Papp, 4a In our class 4a everyone is going crazy for Stikeez. Stikeez are rubber figures with suctioncup bottoms. The new series has fruits and vegetables. The rarest ones are the orange Ivan and the grapes Ellie, Evie and Eddie. The common one is the blueberry, the Blues. Yip-Yap the cherry and Jim the carrot are our favourites. The Stikeez joke: Why don´t I have Jim, the carrot anymore? Because he´s caROTTEN! JAM PASTRIES by Lidia Füzes, 7b • 75g Butter • 200g Flour • 100g Sugar • ¾ Tablespoons of Milk • ½ Teaspoons baking powder • Rasberry Jam Rub the Butter into the flour then add the sugar. Add enough milk to form a stiff dough. Roll out the pastry to a thickness of 2cm. Cut out circles, hollow out the centre with your finger and fill with the jam. Brush with a little milk and bake in the oven for 15/20 mins at 180 celcius until golden brown.
Tech Social Media Today by Márk Módos, 8A In today’s world everyone has a smartphone. It doesn’t matter if it’s an iPhone or something else it most likely has the most popular social media applications which include: Facebook, Youtube, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter. Facebook is the most popular with a whopping 2.2 billion active monthly users. The reason why it’s the most visited application is because, thanks to it’s simplistic yet informative design, many middle-aged people seem to enjoy it. It’s not like other apps like Instagram where only about 10% of users are over the age of 40. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was recently involved in some drama because his company was selling information of its users to third parties. The second most popular social media app is Instagram. It was bought by Facebook for 1 billion US dollars in 2012. In Instagram you can upload photos or videos and it will show up in your followers’ feed. He/she can decide to like the photo, comment on it, save it or send it anonymously to a friend. I usually use the app daily like most teenagers around the world. WAT T PA D by Dorottya Burai 7A Have you ever heard about Wattpad? It’s an app (in Play Store and Apple Store too) where you can write your own stories and you can read stories by other people. There is fan fiction, horror, romance stories, crime stories, action, adventure stories, chick lit, general fictions, humor, poetry and lots of other genres. You can find stories in more than a hundred languages. You can write comments, you can vote on the chapters and you can share them too. Do you want to write a private message to the author? You can do it easily! I love this app because I can read stories even when I’ve got no internet connection. Download it today!
Which iPhone should you buy ? by Bálint Weiszbart, 6a Today, there are lots of iPhones and it is pretty difficult to find out which one is the best for you. Especially, which one is worth that huge price tag? Apple officially sells the iPhone XS, the iPhone XS MAX, the iPhone XR, (I am not going to talk about that) the iPhone 8, 8Plus and the iPhone 7 and 7Plus. But there are tons of iPhones which you can buy at non-official retail stores. (But we won’t talk about them either). iPhone 7: This phone is the cheapest phone that Apple sells. It is about $500. This phone is, in my opinion, a brilliant device. It has the A10 Fusion chip by Apple, a Touch ID, a brilliant camera, a Retina HD display and it is waterproof! The iPhone 7Plus has the same specs just bigger and it has a dual camera. If your hands are small go with the iPhone 7! The iPhone 8 is almost the same, except it has a glass back and a newer chip, louder speakers and it’s price is $600. The same goes for the iPhone 8Plus, except it is $700!!!!! I really don’t recommend the iPhone 8 generation because it is not much better than the seven and it is easier to break because of the glass back. And, of course, it costs more! The iPhone XS is Apple newest iPhone, but you can see that in the price tag as well. It starts at $999 and goes up until $1,500! That is ridiculous! However, the iPhone XS has the greatest camera with portrait mode, effects, face ID, true depth camera, smart HDR and it it is waterproof up to 2 meters. Of course it is faster and louder with the A12 Bionic chip and has edge to edge display, so you get more screen on a smaller phone. As always, the same specs go for the iPhone XS MAX, just bigger! If you have an iPhone older than an iPhone 7, I would recommend the update. But if you own an iPhone 8 or X don’t buy one, trust me! So my conclusion is that the two best iPhones to buy are the iPhone XS and the iPhone 7!
Video Games Dirt 4- The Rally Game by Sven Kohlhauser, 7a Dirt4 is a PC rally car game where you can race against time or against other players. You can start your own career or just drive any rally car a lot of different places. When you first download it you can watch some training videos or just begin the game if you have played something like this before. After that you get a car and then you can start playing the game. You can get money (or credits) from races and with that you can buy your own car. There are several types of rallies in the game (rally, landrush, rallycross, historic rally, kit car). If you want to download it you need to pay but if you buy it at Christmas it costs less. If you play other race games with a steering wheel at home, you can also play this with it. I like this game because I like cars very much. FORTNITE BATTLE ROYALE by Leo Strasser & Lörinc K. Varga 8a It is the most popular game in the world right now. About 90 million people play this game regularly. Fortnite is a game where up to 100 online players can jump out of a flying „battlebus” which is flying above the map. You can drop wherever you want on the map. First you have to search for a gun and shields so you have more HP (HP means health percentage). Shields give you an advantage. The better the guns you find the more likely you win the gunfight. But if you don´t farm for any materials you’re not going to be able to defend yourself by building structures nor can you rush a player safely by building ramps. This is the best way to rush or push people. The more layers you build onto your base ramp, the harder it is for the enemy to shoot it down. This forces them into a build battle where you already have the advantage (or the highground). The highground is the key to Fortnite, because if you have a height advantage you have a better angle to shoot people and eliminate them. If you eliminate a player they automatically drop all their guns, materials and healing items which you can use to get more HP. If you find a gun which is better than the one you already have, you can switch to it. For medium range you should use an assault rifle. For close range you should use a shotgun and a submachine gun which shoots really fast. You always have to keep in mind that a storm always pushes you further and further into a smaller circle which is called the safe zone. If you get into the storm, you will get hurt. The safe storm is always closing in so that people are forced to meet and eliminate each other. The last one standing wins.
AROUND THE WORLD SCOTLAND In the summer holidays I visited Scotland with my family. At the beginning of the by Soma Boyd Gibbens, 8c summer holidays we flew to Edinburgh, but we didn‘t stay there at all. Instead, we went to stay with a friend about an hour away from Edinburgh. We left the next day and headed north. Our next destination was the very northern tip of mainland Scotland. From there we took about a 45 minute ferry to a place called the Orkney Island. The Orkney Island’s comprised of over 70 islands, of which 20 are permanently inhabited. We spent the next 9 days in the Orkneys. One of the highlights of our stay was the first day when we walked along some absolutely stunning cliffs made of sedimentary rocks which means that layers of rocks have been being stacked on each other for thousands of years. We even saw some seals during the walk. One of many old monuments being kept in good condition is Skara Brae, which is a Neolithic settlement from around 3000 BC. It was very interesting to see but this is one of the tourist attractions so there were quite a lot of people around when we visited. St.Petersburg by Bálint Weiszbart, 6a During the summer holidays my dad and by Inez Puhr, 8A I visited St. Petersburg, Russia. We were there not only to see the City but also for the World Cup! We watched France defeat Belgium in the semi-finals. The game and the City were great! St. Petersburg is right at the border of the sub-polar Zone. St. Petersburg has lots of canals. That’s why people call it “the Venice of the North”. The City also used to be the Russian Tsar’s capital city. Their Palace, the Winter Palace, con- tains the Hermitage Museum which is 2 times bigger than the Louvre. It is amaz- ing! We walked 55 km with my dad in just 2 days. The trip was truly amazing!
School Life The De La Salle Day by Leo Strasser, 8a The De Lasalle day was about doing lots of fun stuff in groups which we usually don’t do at school. We learned a lot of new things at different ‘stations’. There was a station where cookies were made. One group made the dough while the other group formed it into cookies and put a glaze on it. It was interesting how well everyone worked with each other. At a different station the students did creative acting. The teacher told them, for example, to act being sick. But the students invented the details on their own. There were many more stations about drawing and sports which would take too long to explain. But in every station they had fun and that was the most important thing. Anti-Bullying-Week by Lili Mihalics & Vera Miklos, 8b The Odd Socks Day is an international movement against bullying that originated in England. Its motto is “different but equal”. On Monday the 12th November, just like in English schools, we held Odd Socks Day. As a protest against bullying the kids wore unusual or mis-matched socks to school. During the English classes we worked on the topic of bullying for a week. We learned new vocabulary words about the topic. We also learned what we can do in case we are being bullied or see someone whom it’s happening to. We also made an exhibition of anti-bullying posters which you can see on the third floor. The pupils of our school wrote positive messages on post-it notes to stop the hate and symbolize peace between each other. We did all of this to make our school a happier place to study and learn.
European by Király Kata, 8c Reasercher’s Night The European Researcher‘s Night is the last weekend in Septem- ber every year. It is organised in 37 countries and in 340 cities. When you go there you can meet up to 21,000 young explorers. Many people attend this night; young and older people too. The- re are a lot of programmes you can visit. For example, you can play a video game with your eyes, you can set your hand on fire, you can try out smart clothes and smart glasses, or you can eat whipped cream frozen in liquid nitrogen. My favourite program was the “Bertic Botts Beans“. You can taste a lot of jelly beans which have different colors and flavors. So at first you don’t know what the taste of the jelly bean will be (e.g. the color of the jelly is white but it tastes like chili. I ate it with a big spoon. :( I Think the European Researcher‘s Night is one of the best nights. Will you try it out next year? I hope so. Children’s University in Budapest by Király Kata, 8C Children’s University is a big science event held every summer in Budapest at the Buda- pest University of Technology and Economics (BME). It is for children 8-14 years old. Last year I took part in this event. It was held at the end of June and the beginning of July. I listened with other students to many interesting presentations and took part in seminars where I could ex- perience the life of a researcher. For me, the most interesting presenta- tion was the Chemistry and Biology lecture where we could do real ex- periments. At the end of the camp we got a diploma (see the picture). It was a really fun week with a lot of mega-interesting things and I made some new friends. If you would like to take part in this event you have to register on their website: http://gyerekegyetem.bme.hu/
