Indian tour 2021 As so many club rallies were handicapped with Covid restrictions and cancellations before lockdowns were lifted and group gatherings once again allowed, this year’s shining light, the 50+1 rally running for 9 days, it’s easy to see how the Indian tour organising was not a high priority as members give their time willingly at any area club event, so luckily Dave & Gillian from the sunny coast offered to run the logistics required for a 4 day 3 night tour around Southern Queensland. Dave told me it was a mystery tour as he’d be surprised if we weren’t lost in his front yard. So on a bright sunny morning we rode out of Peachester (our starting point), heading via back roads towards Woodford then Villeneuve through Kilcoy and on to Blackbutt for lunch. As with any rally the first day always has a few hiccups. Gillian’s bike suffered a dead generator. Luckily a spare 6 volt Sunday mornings walk to the bakery area. Unfortunately afternoon tea was battery was in the backup car to keep and waterfront (2km round trip) was a a non-event as the Kin Kin country life bike running. Pushing on to Biggenden for a well organised pub lunch. We were wide bay bound, as our overnight camp was at the Burrum Heads pub. Quite a long day (430km) and quite a few beers were needed to ease sore muscles. 12

OILING UPDATE I would like to add some more info to the recent article I wrote on oiling issues in triumph twins. Believe it or not, if you are sceptical, I don’t care, I only write about my own experiences on these old clunkers. So if you have a constant smoking problem on any bike and were not sure what may be the cause, here is a tip. Presuming you are going into the investigation as far as removing the head and given that things like the correct amount of oil is in the sump which there needs to be, then try this test. I have seen results from this many times when looking for problems. So, without the valve spring tension once the head is removed it is easy to spin the engine over with the kick start arm by hand. Start with the pistons down the bore and wipe clean around the top of the bore. 10-15 rapid swings through should be enough for tell-tale amounts of oil to be left at the top rim of the bore. There should be no oil if the oil rings are doing their job. Any oil left at the top shows poor oil ring control. Be it worn bore, worn rings, both and or too much oil in the cases this test proves you have a bore/ ring problem. Be mindful of the rocker feed line, could be messy. GMR and Show and Shine 2021. The Weather Gods shone on the weekend after a stormy friday night with a forecast ahead being for plenty of much needed rain . I don’t think that the rain would,ve bothered us though most were camping. There was not even a sign of the ugly Corona. This years event was again held at the Cooran Football Ground with meals provided by the football auxiliary. The Gympie Gold Miner,s Rally is approaching its 50thyear whilst we have also reached our 50th. year milestone under the HMCCQ banner. A good time to celebrate though the beverage consumption was unusually constrained. 26 very well presented bikes were proudly displayed and were very keenly scrutinised by a good crowd of enthusiasts. The ’70,s era provided the biggest line up with some immaculate resto,s. Testimony to this era of rapid innovation and change. Some great WIP,s (Work in Progress) were on display. There should perhaps be a section for these fellas in the form of an Encouragement Award? Saturday afternoon after the Show 19 riders participated with some surprisingly close times, and Shine most going down to the decimal point and recounts with followed a Paul Norrish coming away with first place. short ride to a watering hole.
