Royalty UpdateHi everyone! This is Audrey Halcomb checking in with the royaltyupdate. This summer has definitely been busy, to say the least! Ihave gotten to meet a lot of people and spread to love of oursmall equines. I traveled to the Area III show, where we had agreat turnout and no shortage of food. We also came togetherto have dinner and celebrate Callie and Billy Phillips’ newcomer,Birley! Everyone here was like a one huge family; I love this show!Next up, I traveled to Louisville, KY, where I was proud to hand outribbons at the Kentucky State 4-H Horse Show for the Miniatureand Walking/Racking/Mountain divisions. Being a former long-time 4-H member, this show gave me goosebumps as I walkeddown the shoot. I was happy to see the numbers in the Miniaturedivision thriving, with young kids showing these small athletes.Soon after, I travel to Hardin County Fair Miniature HorseShow, where I was glad to see some familiar faces bravingthe hot temperatures with me. County fairs have alwaysbeen important to me ever since I saw my first Miniaturethere! I always try to support them, to keep them going.Everyone seemed to have a great time! That wraps up myupdate here at the Area III part of town! The countdownto Nationals and Congress has begun! The Journal • August/September 2018 33
National Area I Show Submitted by Nina O’Bryan The National Area One Show is now in the history book. The weather was warm for Shetland day, but cooled off for the miniature portion of the show. Judging duties were handled by Mr. James McKeith and our steward was none other than Area One’s Ms. Grace. Star Lake Tack as well as our show photographer Elizabeth Kwiatowksi was in attendance for all of the festivities. Princess Madison Jamaitus was also available to present awards to our exhibitors. Approximately 180 horses and ponies participated in this year’s show making it our largest in a long time. We had entries from North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Ohio, as well as Delaware. Our youth entry was larger this year which was great to see. During lunch break on Saturday, Ms. Grace held her annual dog show. The dog entries were good this year with around 10 dogs and their owners. Saturday evening the exhibitors were treated to a free chicken dinner which was sponsored by Doug Sherwood. Free Italian water ice was also available over the weekend to our entrants which kept everyone cool and hydrated. We hope everyone had a good time while visiting Delaware. Good luck to everyone with the remainder of your show season. Thanks again for choosing the National Area One show to exhibit your beautiful ponies and horses.34 The Journal • August/September 2018
