IB Mission and School MIssion IB MISSION STATEMENT The Interna onal Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a be er and more peaceful world through inter cultural understanding and respect. To this end the organiza on works with schools, governments and interna onal organiza ons to develop challenging programmes of interna onal educa on and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become ac ve, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. SCHOOL MISSION We develop interna onally minded ci zens of dynamic and crea ve psyche with inter cultural understanding and compassion for others who dare to act on their values, through holis c development of each child’s spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, emo onal and physical a ributes.

From the Principal’s Desk There is something almost mys cal, magical and invigora ng about the coming of January. This remains so each year in spite of the chilling cold or the hazy, fog filled mornings which normally accompany the start of January in these parts of the world. This year, the effect is even more with the beginning of vaccina on which marks the last phase of return towards normalcy. This metaphorical 'Coming Back from the Cold' will affect each one of us and in all aspects of life; we need to face these situa ons with care and courage. We need to look at ways to normalize life and to get back to the way life was during preCOVID mes, without loss of lessons learnt during these mes. On the school front, we have moved from having Grades 10, 11 and 12 coming to school for doubts solving and prac cal tasks in Sciences to their a emp ng Mock Examina ons as they prepare for the Board Examina ons. Our students in these senior classes have been posi ve. Obviously, we are hoping to be able to push further and replicate this success in the other classes as well sooner than later. In classes lower down, it is exci ng me for all the Grades from Seedlings to Grade 5 as they move into the last phase of Authoriza on for the IB PYP. The virtual visit towards this process is slated for the 4th and 5th of February. This is the me when we showcase our procedures and systems and seek valida on for the same. The teachers, students, parents under the guidance of the Coordinators and leadership are gearing for it and are confidently ready for it. The New Year promises to be one that has brought with it the goodies and we can't wait to partake in them and enjoy the mes ahead. As the meme goes, we are certainly with the year Two Thousand TwentyOne and not even for a moment thinking of this year as…..'Two Thousand Twenty Won'. A Very Happy New Year to all of us, may we have the best of mes ahead. Brahmam Bodhi Kishor Joshi Principal

From the PYP Coordinator’s Desk Dear Bodhian Parent, This year has been a great milestone for BIS. I congratulate each and every parent, students and staff members for a job done well as we successfully worked together and completed our PYP authoriza on process. The level of support we received from the parents throughout the process, the level of commitment we received from teachers and the unrelen ng energy of our learners were all vital to our success. It is amazing to look back on all we have covered in the past years and learned a great deal about the value and mission of our IB Primary Years Programme and what it has to offer for the learners, academically, socially and emo onally. Moreover, our units of inquiry are crea vely cra ed, reviewed and updated to expand opportuni es for inquiry, conceptual understanding, academic development and personal growth. We believe in suppor ng the learners as they grow and reflect the IB learner profile a ributes, while they evolve into interna onal minded individuals, making sure that they are wellprepared for life and learning in the modern world. Moreover, the end of this academic year will be crowned with the Exhibi on, the authen c manifesta on of the learners understanding about the programme's holis c elements, in which they are exploring the risks, challenges and opportuni es faced by the children around the world under the transdisciplinary theme “Sharing the Planet”. They have integrated these with the Sustainable Developmental Goals and are conduc ng a thorough inves ga on and collabora ng as teams. They will come up with the final products and wonderful ac ons in the first week of March. Lastly, I'd like to say thank you to everyone. It is my pleasure and honour to be a part of this amazing school community and I am looking forward to our next adventure, fulfilling experiences and so many accomplishments that are yet to come. Brahmam Bodhi Mrs Shikha Srivastava PYP Coordinator

From the PYP Coordinator’s Desk Glossary of PYP Key Concepts – The International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) is driven by seven key concepts which give the inquiries, direction and meaning. All units of inquiry are driven by 23 key concepts each. \"The concepts that drive the PYP are timeless (factual examples change, but not the core understanding), universal (so students can apply understandings across cultures, situations and disciplines) and abstract (so students engage in higher order thinking to grapple with central ideas).” Shannon O'Dwyer The seven key concepts for the PYP program are: Key Concept Question Definition Form What is it like? The understanding that everything has a form with recognizable features that can be observed, identified, described and categorized. Function How does it work? The understanding that everything has a purpose, a role or way of behaving that can be investigated. Causation Why is it like this? The understanding that things do not just happen, that there are causal relationships at work, and that actions have consequences. Change How is it changing? The understanding that change is the process of movement from one state to another. It is universal and inevitable. Connection How is it connected The understanding that we live in a world of interacting to other things? systems in which the actions of any individual element affect others. Teachers’ Corner Developing Thinking Skills How to teach children to think for themselves and become out of the box thinkers? Children need the gi of me to just play and solve problems. We should provide ample opportuni es to encourage crea ve play and reduce screen me. It will help children get innova ve and enthusias c while u lizing their play me construc vely. It is extremely important to include play learning and not replace this play me with tasks, goals, ac vi es and experiments, planned in a manner that our kids lose sight of being a kid. Ques ons can be the key to unlocking out of the box thinking, if they are used appropriately and in modera on. PYP is all about inquiry driven conceptbased curriculum, and openended ques ons like: Why do you think...happened? Why do you choose to…? What do you think will happen if…? What did you like best about it? What did you no ce? Let your kids fail; in fact, let them fail over and over again. Not only will it build their resilience and stamina, but also encourage them to think on their own and not lean on teachers for answers. Kids learn valuable lessons from their failure and so, failure can be effec vely used to propel them forward. Very o en, as adults, mentors want to step in to help their children feel successful. They want them to be the winners, the achievers and they want this so bad that some mes kids' interests take a back seat and they start thinking and working for him/her. How is the child going to think then? Stand back and let the child fail; you will be surprised to see what they learn and how they progress while failing repeatedly. Children should be raised to be independent and crea ve thinkers. In PYP, it is one of the IB learner's profile. We, at Bodhi, strive to work towards it. Renu Bha
