NEWS FROM PYP

FROM PYP COORDINATOR’S DESK Dear Parent, Gree ngs! Wish you a very happy and a prosperous new year! I hope everyone had a wonderful me and enjoyed their winter break! Our new year was filled with ny hugs, 'Ma'am I missed you' or 'I couldn't wait to get back to school' – all are rewards of being a teacher! It is always great to have students with us and the school buzzing with ac vi es. The month of December has been a busy month for PYP with two major events – the annual concert and the STEAM exhibi on and I am happy and proud to say that we came out with flying colours in both. Students and teachers worked very hard for the Annual concert which was much appreciated by all and they deserve all the applause! For the first me this year, students lead from the front while the teachers just facilitated them in their scien fic research in the STEAM exhibi on. The experiments were done and models created at school by the students. As the IB believes more in the process than in the product, many projects were not beau ful but they were original pieces of work which the students proudly presented. I was elated to visit each and every grade and was moved by the confidence students displayed in presen ng their scien fic findings, be it Grade 1 or Grade 5. Needless to say that I am very proud of all my students and teachers. The IB consultant's visit was another major milestone in our journey as a PYP school. The consultant Mrs. A ma Joshi appointed by the IBO to us, is a founder principal at the Eten House group of schools in Singapore. During her two day extensive interac ons with teachers, students, parents, senior leadership and management and her keen observa ons, she was quite happy and impressed with the way we are implemen ng the IB PYP curriculum. I would like to thank each one of you for all your support and encouragement and I am posi ve that we will con nue to do well in our endeavour to provide quality interna onal educa on to the children of Jodhpur in future as well. Bodhi Career Eduction Hub Goals for 2020 As we embark our journey into the New Year, let's ASPIRE to become the best version of ourselves. As a student, it's important to reflect upon the achievements and failures both and then make a plan that is workable, achievable and tangible. ASPIRE here stands for Act, Serve, Persist, Influence, Respect and Encourage. Let me elaborate it further for you to lead a successful life as a student: Act: Taking ac on and going ahead with your projects/ac vi es/ studies is the key. Finish your assignments ahead of me. No ce your thoughts about stopping a task, and make a conscious effort to dismiss them. Focus on the task at hand. When you wake up in the morning, make a list of things that you want to get done that day that could be put off un l the next day. Make sure to get them done that day. Serve: Be kind and empathe c to yourself and others. Start apprecia ng your quali es and nurture them. As an individual, once we learn the habit of giving, it goes a long way. Helping or guiding others with your li le or vast experience is how you can make a difference in lives of others. Persist: Persist through struggles and setbacks. Persistence is defined as \"voluntary con nua on of a goaldirected ac on in spite of obstacles, difficul es, or discouragement\". You can developing persistence by working on your goals diligently, regularly and with the same rigour. As stated by Malcom Gladwell, 10000 hours of dedica on to any task will result in mastery of it. Persistence and perseverance are the keys to be successful. Begin using a me management aid of some sort. Find a system that works and actually use it. Influence: Each one of us has a desire to make an impact of our presence in our circle. Create rapport with the person you are trying to influence – it may sound like common sense but if they like and trust you there is a greater possibility that you will be able to persuade them. Spend me and interact with your peer group and juniors to have a posi ve influence on them. Respect: Respec ng self and others including the community, environment and resources is what will take you to greater heights. As students, you must inculcate habits of being sensible to the environment and community. Contribute with your abili es and talents to bring awareness amongst your immediate community. Encourage: Listen to others and encourage them to realize their poten al. Immerse yourself helping a junior in improving his communica on or musical skills and see the confidence you get. Empowering others helps us in boos ng our selfesteem. Wishing you all an inspiring year!!! Chetna Sabharwal Head, College Placements & Guidance
