FROM PRINCIPAL’S DESK Studies have long established a convincing correla on among family background, their engagement in their children's educa on and student success. Studies also have established that parents can play a significant role in suppor ng their children's academic a ainment and school a endance. Bodhi, right from its incep on, has been very keen to have family engagement in their children's educa on. We have recently increased the rigour of family engagement; a formal Family Engagement Cell has been established in the primary phase of the school. The cell ac vely par cipated in the Diwali Fair which turned out to be a mega learning for the children and adults alike. This also clearly showed to us that focused family engagement affects student mo va on, a cri cal underpinning of academic a ainment and success in schools. We will soon establish such cells in the other phases of the school as well. Family engagement is one of the five essen al supports for student success. The supports are: (1) Coherent Instruc onal Guidance system (2) Strong Parent-School-Community Ties (3) Professional Capacity (4) Student centred Learning Climate (5) Leadership Drive. Deba ng for the importance of one individual support over another is irresis ble but we eventually come to know that all these five elements dynamically interact and reinforce each other. It is like baking a cake; marginal changes in a single ingredient may not have no ceable effect but if one ingredient is absent, it is not a cake. We have been con nually developing all these supports but we can never feel complacent. Let's come together more and more for the be er success of our children. Together we can make a difference in their lives. Ac vely involve and con nue your valuable support.

Bodhi Career Education Hub The new age “Career” paren ng Kindergartners learn 60% of things by observa on and imita on. Emula ng the parents, teachers or any other significant character can easily be seen around in any household. We all have imitated our favourite cartoon characters or celebri es in all their ac ons and styles. To augment this learning by observa on concept, most parents refuse to argue, converse emo onal ma ers in front of their children. The basics of so skills learning actually happens during their early years. The way we greet others, communicate, nego ate and manage conflicts without being loud is what paves the path of learning essen al skills and e que es. A similar concept takes place in the realm of Career Guidance. A child learns about careers by parents sub- consciously. Thus, by observa on the child can decide to follow a parent’s or guardian’s career path. While children observe their parents career path, they happen to have direct experience. A number of parents bring work home these days or they have an office set up at home. While it gives them the convenience of taking care of work and home both, it might some mes hinder the learning curve of children especially when the parents are dealing with people from different socio-economic status. Another set of parents are those who rarely spend me with their families because of work. This might steer them away from pursuing the same career path as they felt deprive of their parents presence in their life. Indirect experiences are the ones where children listen to the stories of success, bravery, courage or may be a rebel movement that impacts them deeply. You never know when and how a social ac vist, a story teller, a musician or a beat boxer is taking shape in your family. These childhood experiences have a substan ve impact on how children decide on their careers. Hence, by unique experiences kids can decide to follow a parent’s/guardian’s career path or not. Sharing your experiences, discussing and reading their spoken or unspoken thoughts are the keys to find out how their career choices are shaping up. You are being observed! STUDENT CORNER Reflec on- UOI II The second unit of inquiry was based on the transdisciplinary theme;HOW WE EXPRESS OURSELVES. The tuning-in ac vity for the unit was a class discussion over different forms of expressions. The class came up with different ideas- literature included drama, poetry and prose. Performing arts included dance, music and theatre. Visual arts included drawing, pain ng, film making etc. The second tuning-in ac vity was to know the use of warm and cool colours. The class was taken to the art room, where our art teacher, Ms Deepika explained to us the concept of warm and cool colours. We got to know that red, orange and yellow coloursmake us feel that we are at a warm place, on contrary cool colours like blue, dark blue, green etcmake us feel that we are at a beau ful or coolplace. One of the lines of inquiry talked about some of the domina ng societal issues in India like pollu on, floods, ragging etc, so our finding out ac vity was to research upon societal issues. We also made a newspaper in the computer period out of the research work. We learned about some major problems in a teenager's life like game addic on, social media etc. we made a chart related to societal issues. A er we saw a movie named night at the museum in which the things in the museum comes life.We saw the movie because it was related to art.It was having wax museum, lifestyle of animals, dinosaur museum etc. Me and my friends liked the movie a lot.

Ÿ See the texture whether it is rough or smooth Ÿ Is the art work, a sculpture, pain ng or a graphic work Ÿ Are the colors bright or sub duded How to cri cize art Art cri cism is about placing and evalua ng art in the context of other works. Ÿ Which art is more beau ful Ÿ Which art is more powerful Ÿ Your opinion is a part of group effort. Ÿ The degree to which you are right or wrong is judged against the most common currently accepted ideas o art theory and history Some rules of cricizing art are- Ÿ Is it apain ng, sculpture or a graphic work? Ÿ Is it a smooth texture? Ÿ Is it a chao c pain ng? Ÿ Is it a large pain ng? Ÿ Are the colours subduded? Then we proceeded to a new topic named navrasa. Navrasa means nine emo ons in which 'Nava' signifies nine and 'rasa' signifies emo ons. The nine emo ons included in navrasa are- Ÿ Shringara which means love/beauty Ÿ Hasya which means laughter Ÿ Karuna which means sorrow Ÿ Rudra which means anger Ÿ Veera which means heroism/courage Ÿ Bhayanaka which means terror/fear Ÿ Bibhatsya which means disgust Ÿ Adbhutna which means surprise/wonder Ÿ Shantha which means peace/tranquility
STUDENT CORNER Reflec on- UOI II We did everything in unit-2 and now it was our concluding me, through a summa ve assessment. we were told to do something related to the societal issues, but there were some rubrics for the summa ve assessment. They were- 1 literal descrip on which means Ÿ Define the art expressed and the facts and figures. 2 Formal presenta on which means Ÿ How you organize the visual elements, technology and art in it. Ÿ How you rate your presenta on Ÿ If you replan, what would you do be er. 3 Comprehensive feeling Ÿ Mood of the presenta on- Ÿ Noisy, quiet, pleasant, sad etc. Ÿ How did you connect it. 4 Interpreta on of meaning Ÿ How did the work piece reflect you as a person. Ÿ What message you would like to give through your art. A er keeping the rubrics in our minds we started working for our summa ve assessment. Me and my two iends named- Shreyan and Aaradhya prepared a act on game addic on and then explained about it. So this is how are unit-2 was ended. Naman Jain Grade : 5 A
