Nursing assistants often have to make informed decisions for the patients they care for. However, it is very important for all Nursing Assistants to be aware of rights of all patients. Nursing assistants need to familiarize themselves with these rights and respect them.
Patients have the right to be fully informed at the time of admission and throughout their stay in the facility. As the Nursing Assistant, you may be asked questions by patients that you are not qualified to answer. Acknowledge this with the patient, let them know who can answer their question, and document the information in their chart.

However, it isvery important for all Nursing Assistants to beaware of rights of all patients. Nursingassistants need to familiarize themselves withthese rights and respect them.Patients have the right to be fully informed at

the time of admission and throughout their stayin the facility. As the Nursing Assistant, you maybe asked questions by patients that you are notqualified to answer. Acknowledge this with thepatient, let them know who can answer theirquestion, and document the information in theirchart. Most information given to patients andtheir family will come directly from the doctoror the charge Nurse.All patients have the right to refuse treatment.This can be difficult for Nursing Assistants asthey really want to be as helpful to the patientas possible. However, if they do not want yourassistance you can 抰 force them. You must reportthis to your supervisor as well as document theinformation in the patient 抯 chart.If a patient is not happy with the care they arereceiving, they have the right to inquire aboutgrievance procedures and file a complaint. If apatient voices a complaint to you, provide them

with the information to file a formal complaint.The policies and procedures for doing so will varybe medical facility.Patients shall not encounter physical or mentalabuse from anyone while staying in a medicalfacility. This includes chemical and physicalrestraints. Any such incidents shall be reportedby the Nursing Assistant immediately to thesupervisor, and often the local policedepartment.It is the duty of all Nursing Assistants toprovide each patient with confidentiality anddignity. They should be treated with respect andprivacy in regards to their personal information.Keeping anything you find out in the medicalsetting confined to other professionals who mustknow the situation is the best advice.Patients have the right to participate in thereligion of their choice. They are allowed to have

visitors from the Church as well as privatevisitors as long as it does not interfere withmedical advice. The Nursing Assistant must learnto work the needs of the patient around suchvisits.Providing quality care to individuals is a veryrewarding challenge to Nursing Assistants. Keepin mind that each patient has their ownpersonality, desires, and needs. They want theseto continue being met even while they are in amedical facility. This allows them to maintain aroutine and sense of normalcy. The longer you carefor a patient, the better you will understand howto best care for them.It is difficult to balance the medical needs ofa patient with their own personal desires.However, it is possible to provide both byrespecting the patient 抯 rights. This willensure that they understand and denied requestsare done purely in the best interest of their well
