Depending on how rare or plentiful a particular granite color is, determines the cost. Granite color is a personal choice. Darker colored or finer grained granites have a higher degree of contrast when engraved. Size Size is the second main factor in cost. If you increase the size by 100%, the cost will increase by approximately 70%. Shape/Finish The shape and finish of a memorial is the smallest factor in price. The more effort, difficulty, or workmanship required will naturally add a small factor to the cost. A polished finish requires more work than a natural rock finish. 6

Sawed / Smooth / Honed Finishes Done by sawing granite. Smooth finish is lightly rubbed. Honed is rubbed heavily to a matt finish. Often used on none exposed surfaces. Can be engraved. Natural granite color is hidden. Thermal Finish Done by automation or by hand flaming. Great for non slip surfaces. Hard to engrave. Rarely used in memorial work. Polished Finish Done by automation or by hand. Cost varies by degree of automation. Most common finish for engraving. Polished Honed Thermal Sanded Sanded No Highlight Highlight Polished finishes show the natural granite color. Honed finishes provide more of a matted finish. Thermal finish crystalizes the granite and provides texture. Sanded finish hides blemishes and provides contrast. Sanded finish with highlight provides waterproofing and extra contrast. 12
