Proudly presents... The Show Must Go On! A collection of dances looking at ‘the greats’ of the dance world.

Ballet 1. The Nutcracker This festive ballet is about a girl named Clara, who’s whisked away to a magical land by a Nutcracker Prince. Just Dance performed this classic ballet in 2019... do you reognise the music? Swan Lake The music and choreography for these two dances are inspired by the ballet Swan Lake. Composed by Tchaikovsky in 1876, it’s one of the most popular ballets of all time, as it follows the story of a girl who’s turned into a swan. Coppelia This comic ballet was originally choreographed by Arthur Saint- Léon in 1870. Romantic ballets such as this one are about real people (instead of gods and goddesses) and show local colour in costume, setting and dance, as well as focusing on technique. 5. Music Made Visible This piece aims to embody the quote ‘Dancing is music made visible’ by George Balanchine. It is in the neoclassical style, showcasing the dancers sophisticated, sleek, and clean movement; the focus over things like costumes and sets. Stepping Out Stepping out is a musical film about an ex Broadway performer who begins to teach a group of people tap! Liza Minnelli plays the lead role of Mavis and sings the songs for these two dances. 7. Lone Digger Our adult tappers are showing that dance is to be enjoyed at any age in this fun, colourful dance to the song ‘Lone Digger’! Lone Digger - Adult Tap Barbara Trimmer, Catherine Andrew, Julie Williams, Laura Wilson, Michael Tor, Catherine Adams, Sallie Harnett, Sue Ward Jazz 8. Grease! A medley of dances take inspiration from the musical, Grease, set in 1958. Rock ‘n’ roll was a very popular style back then and is demonstrated here by our wonderful dancers! 9. 2000s Boybands Popular songs from 90s boybands such as the Backstreet Boys and NSYNC, have these boys and embracing their cool hip-hop moves! Hairspray After landing a spot on a popular dance show, a gutsy and talent- ed teenager rallies against racial segregation and sizeism in 1960s Baltimore. You Can’t Stop the Beat - Grades 3 Jazz Isla Newport, Layla Fannin, Lily Fannin, Louie Fannin, Gracie Procter, Yvie Pye, Sadie Stevens 11. Seven Brides for Seven Brothers Set in 1850s Oregon, this film is known for the unusual choreography by Michael Kidd. He makes exciting dance numbers out of normally boring tasks, such as, in the case of this piece, raising a barn! 12. Fosse Bob Fosse’s distinctive style of choreography included turned-in knees, jazz hands, finger snaps, and specific, detailed movements. This dance is based off his choreography for ‘Sing Sing Sing’, from the Broadway musical ‘Dancin’’. Cats The choreography for this musical blends ballet, modern dance, jazz and tap. Feline traits were incorporated so the dancers can show the movement and behaviour of actual cats. Contemporary 15. Limon This technique, created by Jose Limon, focuses on the natural rhythms of fall and recovery, the use of breath, weight, and mo- mentum, and the fluidity between movements.
