2 Cambridge Chronicle Cambridge Public School JUNE 2021 PARENT ORIENTATION PROGRAM Cambridge Public School organized an extensive Virtual Parent Orientation Program for all the parents of Grade 3 & 4 students on 15th of May 2021. The main objective of this program was to lay the foundation for the new parents, to familiarize them with the curriculum, teaching methodologies, evaluation system, co-scholastic activities, and various other programs of the school. The Principal, Ms. Judith Singh, apprised the parents about the vision, mission, and core values of CPS. She emphasized the importance of effective communication between parents and teachers and active collaboration between the school and parents. She also expressed hope that the journey of the students and parents with CPS will be a happy and a fruitful one. The Coordinator, Ms. Khudeja Sheeba, gave an overview of the Curriculum and the Assessment pattern followed by the school. The parents were briefed about the major milestones achieved by the school in the Academic Year 2020–21. Important information regarding the commencement of the new session, availability of books, uniform, transport, and other facilities, mode of fee payment, mode of communication with the school, and other relevant details were provided to the parents. The co-scholastic activities were also touched upon. The orientation program was successful as we made the parents aware of the readiness of the school to welcome the students in the New Academic Session. TEACHER ORIENTATION PROGRAM Teachers of CPS are exposed to several orientation programs at regular intervals as a part of Professional Development Program. These programs provide great insights into functioning of a teacher with respect to interaction, communication and management of their pupils. The programs are an ongoing process with domain specific programs as well as subjects which are generic and can be incorporated and implemented by teachers across various specializations. We had the wonderful opportunity of attending three such programs, INDUCTION: The new academic year began with an intensive and thought-provoking session for the teaching staff by our Principal, Ms. Judith Singh. The basic focus of the session was changing mindsets. And to begin, the mindset of teachers should change to make them relevant for the twenty first century learning & teaching. She emphasized that the foundation of every teaching should be to introduce critical thinking in children. Knowledge can be limited but imagination and ideas are not. She also said that the teachers should teach their students to be perceptive and discerning. They should teach their students to understand the value of character more than position or rank. The teaching of values and character is the very basis of education at CPS. Thus the emphasis should be towards the teaching of values rather than just imparting knowledge. MULTIPLE INTELLIGENCE: A child’s mind receives information in different ways according to different backgrounds and experiences. From here comes the importance of studying the different kinds of intelligences through which an individual receives, decodes, understands, applies and analyzes information. In order to be successful in teaching, teachers have to improve their abilities to address all students’ thinking as different as they may be. This theory of MI and its applicability in our classrooms was very well explained in a training session conducted by Ms. Rajani Pattabhiraman and Ms. Shanti Rao. POCSO: The staff and teachers of Cambridge also attended a wonderful workshop on POCSO, which helped us to understand our role and responsibilities in identification and prevention of the very serious and extremely important topic of Child Abuse.
3 Cambridge Chronicle Cambridge Public School JUNE 2021 -School days are the best days in everyone’s life- A school provides a structured education to the child and promotes his mental and psychological growth. Apart from learning academics, a child also learns other important skills as team work when they involve in various games and activities. Charity begins at home. A child learns good manners and the virtues of sharing and caring from his family members. When the child starts schooling, he extends that to his classmates and teachers. He becomes more responsible and self-dependent. The school prepares the child to develop good habits as well as right and rational thinking. It makes the child duty- bound and obedient. We learn to respect everyone and how to converse with others in a respectful manner. Everyone’s school days have the memories they can cherish and treasure for life. School days are the most joyful and fun filled with many mysteries to solve and many fights to resolve. I would like to share with you that during my school days we all use to go to school with the intention of having unconditional fun. We use to love our games and PT periods the most. Over fifteen years of my teaching experience, I have noticed that nowadays, a few students prefer to stay in the classroom rather than going to the playground. They are more interested in playing video games or games in the mobile phones. Remember children, this will help you to exercise only your hands. Everyone must get involved in Sports and play games with their friends every day. This is very important for your physical development. We should have a healthy body to have a healthy mind to grow and achieve our goals in life. I would like to share a few things with you which will help you during this virtual schooling days. Be responsible for your own work. Be systematic and complete your work on time. Follow your parents and teachers' instructions. Have a methodical strategy for studying. Revise your lessons well and prepare for your exams. Learn to relax and rejuvenate yourselves. Once the teacher arrives, we turn on the cameras and get a chance to see our teachers and friends. This academic year is very exciting, as we have a lot of fun activities along with learning core subjects. Our teachers are all very kind and patient with us. The way our teachers teach us is very nice and educative, if we have any doubts; our teacher clarifies it clearly, so that we understand the concept well. I love this year’s virtual classes.
