Cambridge Chronicle Grades III - IV Monthly/July 2021 “The best thing about being a teacher is that it matters. The hardest thing about being a teacher is that it matters every single day”. I believe that schooling is supposed to be fun, in fact it's incredibly important. The impact of this work is so fulfilling and significant, and it all starts with the most important person in the classroom, the . The content they plan, the environment they create, the friendships they help foster, it's all just incredible! For the past one and a half year, teachers have left their physical classrooms and now they work from behind closed doors. They go through lot of challenges, managing their families, issues with their network, multitasking with their roles and responsibilities but they never fail to focus on their students. They answer all the queries through emails at any time of the day, spend hours helping parents to master the new learning content, and they make sure that learning materials are ready to be delivered on time. Getting connected virtually is the only way in today’s world of education, but it's vital that we do not miss out on the wonderful moments and memories that are a part of each and every day. Sheer dedication of has helped them create those lovely moments in these little ones’ lives. To completely rework what teaching looks like, to work tirelessly to connect to students and parents and to do it with passion, flexibility and grace shows how deeply invested our teachers are in teaching and nurturing students. I am grateful to all my dear teachers. We all appreciate the parents for their continued support. We believe that this is the time to not just deal with the current situation, but also build foundations of resilience to face such difficult events in the future. Let us consider this formidable challenge as an opportunity to learn and must rise to meet this courageously. We shouldn’t let the pandemic pin us down. We must remain positive and keep our hopes alive and believe that…. Ms. Khudeja Sheeba “Nothing is Predestined. The obstacles of our past can become the Coordinator Grades III & IV gateways that lead to new beginnings.”
“A Good teacher can inspire hope, ignite the imagination and instill love for learning.” I would love to share my wonderful journey in Cambridge. I have been associated along with this esteemed institution’s ideology and connected emotionally with it for over 20 years. I’m extremely overwhelmed to say that I have crossed the barriers in changing my personality and the school has trained me to become a better person when it comes to teamwork, efficacy, dedication and developing self-confidence. As teaching is my passion, I love to work with all my interest and not because I have been asked to work. Cambridge has always encouraged and accepted my ideas and strategies of teaching with hands on experience for better learning outcome. Education is not just imparting knowledge, it is a way to train one’s mind to think, make them independent and express their thoughts efficiently. It enriches the students with analytical skills and builds self-confidence to explore the colourful world of success. We as teachers of Cambridge believe that along with education, a child needs to be groomed and molded with values such as being kind, disciplined, respectful and to become a responsible citizen in the society. Each day is a chance to work with young minds, identify their unique talents and nourish them to showcase it. I love to feel the satisfaction and see the smile on children’s face when they learn and play with fun in the creative setting of a classroom. I appreciate and show my gratitude from the bottom of my heart towards the organization for helping me improvise during the course of transition from physical teaching to digital teaching. The school also provided me with necessary trainings, and I could connect with students without any hurdles during this crucial pandemic situation. Ms. Girija Bhonsle Primary Teacher Page No. 2
Parent’s Corner With the onset of new year January 2020, the world came to a standstill hit by the worst pandemic of the decade, COVID 19. This led to the nation-wide lockdown. Offices, establishments, business, schools etc closed indefinitely. Children were severely impacted due to the closure of schools and their future seemed to be uncertain. The educational institutions quickly adopted to alternative teaching methodologies. The technology paved the way for virtual learning which came as a boon for the students. Online education soon became a new trend. Students started attending virtual classes. This wouldn’t have been possible without the efforts and dedication put in by the school management and the staff. Educational institutions such as Cambridge Public School brought in revolution in the areas of virtual classes. Microsoft Teams is used as a platform for remote learning. This was new to everyone including students, teachers and parents. More than anyone, it was teachers who had to put in lot of efforts as they were not used to this culture of online classes. Kudos to all the teachers of Cambridge Public School who adapted to the new online methods and provided quality education to all students irrespective of grades. Teachers proved to be the real warriors during these testing times. Congratulations to the management of Cambridge Public School and the lovely teachers. Thanks for all that you are doing for our kids. Grateful to you. Page No. 3
National Doctors' Day 2021 Theme: Save The Saviors. Dedicating the day to the doctors who succumbed to COVID – 19, the theme of the day, this year is ‘Save The Saviors’. Being trapped in the uncomfortable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for hours every day, treating COVID and non-COVID patients, taking online consultations, dealing with the shortage of medical supplies and staff, keeping up with everyday developments in the field of COVID-19 research, the pandemic has been hard on the doctors. According to IMA the country has lost over 1,500 doctors to the pandemic. If anyone did not realize the importance of doctors in the past, coronavirus pandemic has clearly shown their co ntribution to society. While we are self- isolating, it is the doctors who are constantly fighting for the lives of people who have been infected with the deadly virus. With the number of infected people on shown their contribution to society. While we are self-isolating, it is the doctors who are constantly fighting for the lives of people who have been infected with the deadly virus. With the number of infected people on the rise every day and hospitals teeming with hundreds of people, it has never been more important to appreciate the efforts that doctors make to ensure that we recover completely from whatever may be ailing us and continue to remain healthy. ‘Doctors are truly the greatest heroes of all times.’ India celebrates National Doctors' Day on 1st of July every year to honor the birth and death anniversary of great physician and second chief minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. This day serves to show gratitude to all those doctors who have selflessly aided us in our time of need and tirelessly worked for the well-being of their patients. The Government of India established Doctors' Day in 1991 to recognize the contributions of BC Roy. He played an important role in the establishment of Medical Council of India and Indian Medical Association. This day is celebrated to acknowledge the role of doctors in the progress of our nation. On this occasion we have sensitized our students regarding selfless, lifesaving and noble contribution of doctors towards the society throughout our lives and during the pandemic in particular. Children were shown videos of doctors educating them about the precautionary measures to be practiced during the pandemic to prevent themselves from contracting the virus. They also focused on the importance of correct posture and advised them to maintain a proper distance from the screen in order to keep their eyes healthy while attending online classes. Children were also encouraged and motivated to work hard and take up this noble profession. We are enthralled to share with you that Dr. Seema Agarwal and Dr. Harshitha, an Alumna of CPS, added information to our students’ knowledge with their informative videos. Page No. 4
Mathematics Week Mathematics, is not about numbers, equations, computations or algorithms: It’s about UNDERSTANDING Mathematics makes our life orderly and meticulously. Certain qualities that are nurtured by mathematics are problem-solving ability, power of reasoning, creativity, abstract or spatial thinking, critical thinking and even effective communication skills. Mathematics is one of the most important subjects taught in school. It helps young children develop their analytical thinking from a very young age. Emphasising maths from kindergarten provides children with a strong basis for reasoning, estimation and thinking logically later in life. Cambridge Public School launched “Mathematics Week 2021” with bumper programme of activities to help people “Rethink Mathematics”. The annual celebration of Maths which commenced from 5th of July and continued till 9th of July showcased a wide range of online and offline events where students of grade 3 and 4 participated with much fun, fervour and enthusiasm. First Unit Test for the academic year was held between date virtually. Online examinations are conducted by our school to evaluate the students’ comprehension. As we were forced to adapt to the virtual examinations due to the current situation, we have shifted our examinations completely to the online mode. We conduct the examination through Microsoft Forms. It facilitates us to grade the students’ understanding level. In online examinations the candidates must answer the questions in a pre-decided time frame. The test window freezes once the exam is over and the educators get the real time reports. The result of online exam is then disclosed to the candidates by posting the scores through Microsoft Teams. Online testing is student friendly. It has broken the geographical barriers as one can access the examination from the remote locations. It is a convenient way to test the child’s knowledge. D.E.A.R PROGRAMME Reading helps us to change our thinking, it is an exercise to the mind which helps the child develop his /her imagination and thinking skills. It helps us to change our perspective and be open minded by accepting the world, people, their views, their beliefs, their culture, their values, the way they are. At Cambridge, we use various strategies to promote reading and encourage students to read more. This year with the virtual classes we have taken the initiative to conduct D.E.A.R time virtually for our students. During the D.E.A.R time students and teachers will engage themselves in silent-sustained reading while they read books of their choice very quietly and share their thoughts about what they have read. We strongly believe that helping a child to develop the love for reading is very important and essential. If a child develops love for reading at a very young age, it will remain a life-long habit and for sure they will pass on to the future generations. The famous quote of Dr Seuss is one of our favourites: The more that you read, The more things you will know. The more that you learn, The more places you’ll go. A book in our hands can take us to a different world, a different land, providing knowledge of the outside world. It makes us meet the characters who are similar or much like us or the people who are totally different from us. As truly said by George R.R Martin, “A Reader lives a thousand lives before he dies; the man who never reads lives only once.” Page No. 7
