AUTODESK SUMMARY ACME is a large Mechanical presence in the Northeastern region of the United States. They provide heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and plumbing systems for Industrial and commercial markets. Including, but not limited to industrial, healthcare, higher education, K-12 schools, municipal, and commercial office buildings. The services they offer are Project Development, System Design, Construction and Installation, System Commissioning, Energy Solutions and on-going Maintenance and Repairs. Among the level of pride their employees have about the company, they also have a passion for the business, and it is not just the job, it is the overall improvement of processes that will push the industry to a better place. The overall purpose of this Business Process Assessment was to identify Danforth's current workflows for tracking information and data from the office to the field and also how the information comes back from the field to the office. Although the workflows are simple in concept, Danforth's processes are strategic and definitive-- which plays a part in the overall workflow lifecycle of communication of the data to and from the field. This document addresses workflows that will link the data in a way that will set Danforth up for a unique final project delivery process.
EXISTING WORKFLOW - Office to Field
EXISTING WORKFLOW NOTES - Office to Field OBJECTIVE Identify the workflow as a whole and see where enhancements can happen Take BIM to the field on a more consistent basis Recognize and define both 2D and 3D workflows to the field Track assets from detailed to shipped REQUIREMENTS Integrated communication of Data Seamless transfer of data through all stakeholders Reduce the chances of out-of-date data Simplify the transfer of data to field individuals NEEDS JWD's current advanced workflows set them apart from other mechanical contractors. With the rapid adoption of technology in this space they are looking to maintain the competitive advantage and continue to lead the industry Make it easy for the the office to: Transfer Data Share Model Information Track Assets
PROPOSED WORKFLOW - Office to Field
PROPOSED WORKFLOW NOTES - Office to Field WORKFLOW OVERVIEW BIM 360 allows for the asset tracking process to be centralized and accessible to all parties involved. All Communication is performed within the platform and all parts if this process can be tracked -- whether the equipment resides in the model, the fabrication shop or the jobsite, each part of the development is trackable and accessible. KEY CAPABILITIES Build and execute on quality (or any other) checklists for your project or company. Bring documents and design to the jobsite. Execute prefunctional, functional, startup and other tests for systems and equipment. Enhance workflows with BIM data A reporting platform for all of your field management activities.
EXISTING WORKFLOW - Field to Office
EXISTING WORKFLOW NOTES - Field to Office OBJECTIVE Issue tracking and quality documentation Make it easier for the foremen to document issues in the field Allow for more transparency when it comes to tracking the issues Whether it is model based or drawing based, markups and notations about the field installation can be monitored REQUIREMENTS The quality of JWD projects are directly proportional to risk factors, time and cost savings: NEEDS Making it easy to track new CD's from the General Contractor and provide to field crews Providing insight to the changes made from the different CD bulletins To store all information in a central, easily accessible location Centralized cloud repository that removes data silos while providing access to the most current project data Comparison of 2D and 3D Tracking issues and markups Tracking installation progress against project schedule Data exchange between the office(s), field, modeling, and fabrication shop
PROPOSED WORKFLOW - Field to Office
PROPOSED WORKFLOW NOTES - Field to Office WORKFLOW OVERVIEW By having the ability to link information to the drawings in the field, Danforth will be able to have live information for any issues that may arise. All parties who have access will be able to view 2D and 3D information. With optical character recognition, BIM 360 will slipsheet any new drawing information in many different formats, and compare the information that changed from the previous update. KEY CAPABILITIES Controlled sharing of information across the entire team Perform constructability reviews with 2D & 3D markups Reduce rework risks through versioning and permissions Manage contract documents and track project activity
