SRI SATHYA SAI UVACHA Follow the Master On the holy occasion of the Advent of the Avatar, what does Bhagawan want from us? Bhagawan’s Divine Message: Embodiments of the Divine Self! You are celebrating today as the Birthday of Swami, and deriving divine bliss (ananda) through various programs carried on with enthusiasm; but in fact, I have no wish to consider this as a special day! Such desire, does not exist in Me at any time, in this or any other sojourn. I need nothing, however great or small, in this Universe! I have come with one purpose: To reveal to everyone of you the mystery of your reality and the goal of your life! What you should place before Me as offering is Pure Love from within. When you offer Me that, I derive Ananda! From today, spend your days and years in activities that help and care for those who are in dire need, and make this human existence of yours worthwhile and fruitful. Conduct yourself appropriately and realise the goal of your life. My blessings to you! - Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba My birthday is the date when divinity blossoms in your heart. – Sri Sathya Sai Baba Sai Mission - November 2020 Page 3
SSSIE Events NAVARATRI CELEBRATION 11 AUG 2020 With Swami’s Divine Blessings, Navaratri was celebrated in a grand manner from 17th to 26th October 2020 on the theme ‘NAVAVIDHA BHAKTHI’ (9 Forms of Devotion). Beautiful Golu Display was arranged in the assembly hall to mark the beginning of Navaratri. Various spiritual and value-based Sadhanas were organized on each day. The Navaratri Pravachan (talk by teachers) on each form of Bhakthi was highly inspiring with narration of stories and incidents that brought out the essence of the Form of Bhakthi chosen. A recorded clip of the Pravachan was sent to all the students each day. Swami says “Bhakthi is love for God!”. To inculcate that Bhakthi in the young hearts, several contests were held online and Sadhanas were followed by the students at home to actively engage them based on the theme chosen for this year. Sai Teacher Corner WITHDRAWL OF LOVE – THE MOST EFFECTIVE WEAPON Mrs. SRIDEVI BERIGAI.L, PGT (Mathematics), Alumnus, SSSIHL Tvameva Matha cha Pitha Tvameva, Tvameva Bandhush cha Sakhaa Tvameva Tvameva Vidya Dravinam Tvameva, Tvameva Sarvam Mama Deva Deva Swami says – “Miracles are my visiting cards”. We often get attracted towards the Divine Mother SAI through His Leelas or miracles. Some are magnanimous and explicit where some are unnoticed by us. The most subtle miracle of Bhagawan is our transformation (the real miracle) which happens throughout our life. His ways of transforming us are innumerable and inexplicable. The DIVINE CHANCELLOR has been transforming me throughout my life day in and day out. I would like to share such experiences now. I joined the Sri Sathya Sai institute of Higher learning without knowing anything about Swami. In my first year, Grama seva was organized during semester holidays. It was optional to attend Grama Seva. We could go home if we wanted. Having got inflicted with homesick, I wished to go home. But, something inside me strongly urged me to stay back and do the Grama seva. Eventually I stayed back. During Grama seva, Ananthapur campus students (girls) used to pack food and Prasanthi Nilayam & Brindavan campus students (boys) used to distribute food packets. While we were packing, we used to sing Bhajans throughout the night in the Grama seva shed. On that night, some foreigners who got disturbed with our singing, came and expressed their anger, in their mother tongue, for not being able to sleep. We did not know how to react and informed our teachers. Sai Mission - November 2020 Page 23
Somehow this news reached Swami. In midnight, around 2’o clock Swami came to the Grama seva shed and enquired from our warden madam. I was wondering at that time why swami came for such insignificant incident. This shows Swami’s love and concern for His Daughters. He used to enquire lovingly whether we were having back pain as we were sitting throughout the night. I never had back pain or headache during those 10 days of Grama Seva. My affinity towards Swami grew slowly. During my B.Ed., course, we used to stay in Prasanthi Nilayam for nearly 2 months for practising teaching in the Sri Sathya Sai Primary school. We had very close Darshans and group interactions with Swami. Once all of sudden, Swami started ignoring us. He even did not come towards the side where we were sitting. We did not know what went wrong. We started self-introspection and corrected ourselves day by day. But, things did not change. One day came, where we lost patience and prayed our hearts out. During Darshan, Swami came and stopped in front of us and started scolding. He told that he will throw books and pens if we bring them inside the hall. Then, we realized our mistake. We used to have lot of record writing work and complete them sitting in Sai Kulwanth hall. Knowing our work load our teachers never objected. After Swami goes inside interview room, we used to start writing our lesson plans and records. That day, for afternoon Darshan, Swami wore yellow robe and told us – “You are wearing yellow sarees and I am also wearing yellow dress”. All of us laughed. Swami as loving mother pacified us after scolding in the morning. Here, one important lesson we learnt- “AVOID POSITIVE IDLENESS”. Idleness is negative quality. Then, what is this positive idleness? Wasting time by doing nothing is idleness. Utilizing time inappropriately is positive idleness. For example, cleaning cupboard during study hours. Cleaning is productive job, but time chosen for that work is wrong. Writing record and lesson plan is our work, but writing inside Kulwanth hall is wrong as we need to keep our focus on Bhagawan instead of the record note books. The message is clear and loud. Even after two decades, it is still afresh in my memory. The Divine Teacher indeed used the most effective weapon – WITHDRAWL OF LOVE. Sai Mission - November 2020 Page 24

Sai Students Corner IMPACT OF SRI SATHYA SAI ON ME VEDESH.M, CLASS V I am Vedesh M. I joined Balvikas classes in the year 2015 at Sri Sathya Sai Seva Samithi, Guduvanchery. My Balvikas Guru taught many moral stories about Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. I got much impressed with Swami's stories. Especially, Swami fulfilling the wishes of His mother Eswaramma inspired me a lot. Divine Mother Eswaramma had pure love and compassion for the poor villagers at Puttaparthi. She prayed to Swami who granted her three wishes to build a School, a Hospital and provide clean drinking water for them. I have not seen the physical form of our beloved Swami or mother Eswaramma. But, Swami’s relationship with His mother has been the beacon of light in my spiritual journey with him. Through the teachings of Swami, I have been inspired in my relationship with my mother. We get connected with the love of Mother Eswaramma for all children and the devotion of Swami to His mother. Before Eswaramma passed away Swami fulfilled her wishes. Till date, the wishes of mother Eswaramma have been making a great impact on the lives of the villagers Parthi. This impacted me very much. Before joining Balvikas, I would be always fighting with my sister and mother. After listening to this stories and values, I changed my attitude and behaviour. Now I respect and obey my parents' words. My resolution on Swami's 95th Birthday of Swami: I should always fulfill the wishes of my mother. Sai Mission - November 2020 Page 28
Sai Students Corner IMPACT OF SRI SATHYA SAI ON ME GOKUL.G, CLASS VI The impact of Bhagawan on me is as follows: 1. His True Selfless Service A few representatives from among the throng of villagers who came for the Inauguration of the Sri Sathya Sai Water Supply Project tried to thank Swami for the initiative he has taken. Swami said that they need not thank him for this and this should be other way round. Swami said he would like to thank them for giving the opportunity to serve them all. A lesson in humility and True selfless Service. 2. Swami’s Vajra Sankalpa (Resolute Steadfastness in getting the beneficial work he has willed to be done) We can rest assured the things will get over by the target date fixed by Swami as per his Vajra Sankalpa to get all the good work which will be beneficial to all humanity done. Whatever I will, must bear fruition even if the whole world is against it and I will not swerve even by an inch. This is the confidence that Swami expects from all of us. 3. Action is the Powerful Mode of Communication As Swami displayed through his life, one can silence the critics through answering the question of the critics through action. That is the best way to reply as Actions Speak Louder than Words. Conclusion: The following three aspects of Swamis life has profound impact on me: True Service is done without expectation of any reward. Any activity which benefit others is bound to succeed even in adverse conditions You do not speak, let the action (a good deed for the benefit of others) silence your critics on your behalf My wishes on Swami’s 95th Birthday: “Swami, be there with me in my Every Deed and Guide Me through the good and bad, and ups and downs and Joy and Sorrows of my Life!” Sai Mission - November 2020 Page 29
Sai Students Corner IMPACT OF SRI SATHYA SAI ON ME R. U. JASWANTH KUMAAR, CLASS V First, my loving wishes to my beloved mother Sai Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba for his 95th birthday. “Don’t waste your time, money, food and energy”. “Before you speak, ask yourself: Is it kind, is it necessary, is it true, does it improve the silence?” These words of Bhagawan have made a great impact on me. We should not waste our time because the time will not come back at the correct age again. We should not waste our money by buying unnecessary things. Instead of buying more unwanted things, we can save some money and help poor people by giving them some food. We should not waste food. Today, if we are not wasting food means, tomorrow, Swami will bless us with good health and wealth. We should not waste our energy. If we start a work, we should complete the work and then move to another work. After knowing about the Ceiling on Desires project from my school, I started following it in my daily life. We participate in this Ceiling on Desires project by reducing the amount of buying crackers, dresses and sweets and we will save some money and offer it to school. With that amount, they will give food to the old age home people, award prizes for the winners of competitions held for the Government school students. Through this Ceiling on Desire project, I have not scared any animals by bursting more crackers. At our school, before Swami’s birthday, we used to chant Ashtothram of every God. We will sing His glory on His birthday. I have heard many quotes of Swami “Love all, Serve all”, ”Help ever, Hurt never”. I followed these quotes as golden words of our beloved Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba. These quotes of Swami made me an ideal Sai student. I request all of you to follow His words sincerely. If we take one step towards Swami, he will take hundred steps towards us. Always trust Swami and travel with him. He will always take you in the right path and he will make your life flourish with happiness. Sai Mission - November 2020 Page 30

Saints of Bharath SAINT SRI RAMAKRISHNA PARAMAMAHANSA (1833-1886) Sri Ramakrishna was was born on 18 February 1836. He was an Indian mystic, reformer, and saint who, in his own lifetime, came to be revered by people of all classes as a spiritual incarnation of God. Born in a rural Bengal village, Ramakrishna was the fourth of five children. His parents were simple but orthodox Brahmins deeply committed to the maintenance of traditional religious piety. As a child, he did not like routine schoolwork and never learned to read or write. Instead, he began to exhibit precocious spiritual qualities, which included ecstatic experiences, long periods of contemplation, and mystical absorption in the sacred plays of the Indian epic tradition, especially with the roles of the gods Shiva and Krishna. During his formal initiation ceremony into the Brahmin caste, he shocked his highcaste relatives by openly accepting a ritual meal cooked by a woman of low caste. Though Ramakrishna resisted orthodox priestly studies, at the age of 16 he went to Calcutta to assist his brother, who was serving as a priest for a number of local families. He was disturbed by the gross commercialism, spiritual drabness, and inhumanity of the urban environment. However, when his brother was asked to become a priest at a large temple complex at Dakshineswar near the Ganges outside Calcutta, Ramakrishna found a new and ultimately permanent environment for his spiritual maturation and teaching. Spiritual Struggles That temple complex—one of the most impressive in the area—had been built by a wealthy widow of low caste whose spiritual ideal was the mother goddess Kali. This great deity traditionally combines the terror of death and destruction with universal motherly reassurance and is often embodied in a statue of ferocious appearance. She represents an immense spectrum of religious and human emotions, from the most primitive to the most exalted, and consequently has a symbolic universality not easily contained within conventional religious forms. Sai Mission - November 2020 Page 37
Ramakrishna was selected to serve as priest in the Kali temple, and it was in this context that he had a series of crucial religious experiences in which he felt that Kali was calling him to a universal spiritual mission for India and all mankind. His ecstatic, unorthodox, and often bizarre behavior during this period of spiritual transformation was interpreted by many as a sign of madness; but it clearly represents an aspect of his struggles to free himself from routine religious patterns and achieve a new and more profound spirituality: he imitated the actions of the Hanuman (a sign of humility and service); he fed animals from the same food prepared for Kali; he cleaned an outcaste's hovel with his hair; he sang and danced wildly when the spirit moved; he rejected his Brahminical status, asserting that caste superiority was spiritually debasing—all of this symbolizing his inward spiritual transformation. Spiritual Maturity When Ramakrishna was 28, his emotional confusion subsided, and he began studying a wide variety of traditional religious teachings. His teachers were astounded at his powers of assimilation, prodigious memory, and innate spiritual skill. He was openly proclaimed a supreme sage. At the age of 33 he began to study Moslem tradition, and after a short period of instruction he had a vision of a \"radiant figure\"— interpreted as Mohammed himself, which confirmed his universal religious calling. World Mission By now Ramakrishna had a wide following from all classes and groups. He was not merely a great teacher; he was regarded as an embodiment of the sacred source of Indian religious tradition and of the universal ideals toward which all men strive. His spiritual vitality and magnetism were combined with a sharp sense of humour—often aimed at himself or his disciples when the hazards of pride and self-satisfaction seemed imminent. During the last decade of his life, one of the most important events was the conversion of his disciple Vivekananda, who was destined to organize and promote Ramakrishna's teachings throughout India, Europe, and the United States. In 1886, when Ramakrishna was near death, he formally designated Vivekananda his spiritual heir. May his life and teachings ever inspire us. Sai Mission - November 2020 Page 38
