VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS 3 PORTFOLIO10 GpJrEofOAile NETTE NAME Go, Jeanette Carmela B. AGE 18 years old COLLEGE PROGRAM & YEAR LEVEL BS Architecture - 1st Year STATEMENT TO THE READER This portfolio, a collection of my best efforts and struggles, is dedicated to my family, for their endless support, my friends for their constant reassurance, and my classmates who have struggled with me ever since our first day as architecture students. Third semester was tough, but because of these great people, I was able to get through every adversity and produce these works of art. I would be lying if I told you that they are perfect, as I made multiple errors and I still have a lot of things and techniques to learn. But with a little trust and faith, I think I will be able to survive architecture school.

10P0L MEDIUMS USED: colored pencils sketchpad For this first plate, we were tasked to design our own architectural entrance and render it using twelve different techniques such as scribbling, hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, dashes, and many more. Since it was my first time to draw without a reference, I realized that I was struggling with the translation of my thoughts into drawing. As much as creativity is needed, imagination also plays a part in architecture. It is through this that we get to make our ideas possible and ensure that it is thoroughly applied into design. Thus, I realized that I should explore more ideas and allow myself to visualize new possibilities. 02
20P0L MEDIUMS USED: watercolor watercolor paper This plate required us to design our kiosks in different perspectives and render them in split complimentary and complementary hues, using watercolor. Applying what I have learned from my previous plate, I was able to create a design that I thought of at that moment. Doing this plate, I have realized how time-consuming the planning stage is, especially that it is a critical initial process in designing. Which is why I should dedicate more time to conceptualization because it will affect the whole process from the initial stage up to the final presentation of our design. 03
30P0L MEDIUMS USED: watercolor watercolor paper For this task, we were instructed to draw and render a reference of an interior perspective using watercolor in triadic and tetradic color schemes. Out of all the plates that I have done, this one motivated me the most probably because of my color selection. I realized how important colors are in architecture since this plate affected me in a positive way. With a good understanding of color theory, I can utilize the right color in order to manipulate various effects that can create an impact on human emotions. 04
40P0L MEDIUMS USED: alcohol markers colored pencils This 4th plate required us to pen and ink draw and render an exterior tracing paper perspective using alcohol markers and colored pencils. Applying mixed-media, I have learned the importance of studying the behaviors of the different mediums in order to complement each other and be able to produce a quality work. In this plate, I think there is a need to improve my color selection because it can affect the overall appearance of the presentation. 05
For this plate, we were tasked pictures 50P0L to form a collage or illustration board photomontage using any medium that we could think 06 of as long as we adhere to a theme about the “role of the youth in valuing the environment”. I obtained my lowest grade on this plate which made me reflect on my mistakes. Combining different materials was difficult and I realized that we should not forget about the basics especially in the way I applied watercolor. I should have been more careful since it could affect the quality of the presentation. magazine cut-outs watercolor MEDIUMS USED:
MEDIUMS USED: glue bristol board illustration board 07 This plate tasked us to construct a 3d conceptual model of an art school using our own design. My final output resembled a wave-like concept that can be attributed to futuristic architecture. One thing I have learned from forming this model is that conceptualization shows the overall design intent and that I should always dedicate ample time in the initial stages of design since it can be as 60P0Ldifficult as forming the model itself.
This final plate was the most enjoyable task that I have created. It is a scale model of a famous architecture named “Norman Lykes House” by Frank Lloyd Wright. I utilized available materials at home that I could find such as bristol board, paper, tissue, toothpick, acrylic paint, and sponge. I was also able to make a paper mache for the surroundings of the structure. Thus, it made me realize how being resourceful is part of the creative process since it allows us to think critically with consideration and care, and find innovative solutions with what we currently have.
