PIEZO REFERENCE GUIDE CHARACTERISTICS OF TIP MOVEMENT The smooth linear movement generated by piezoelectric systems creates a stroke pattern that is similar to hand instrumentation. Adapting the lateral surface of the piezo tip against the tooth surface (similar to a hand instrument) will increase clinical efficiency.ESSENTIALS OF POWER DISPERSION Power Dispersion• Most of the energy is dispersed at the point of tip (1). (1) Point (2) Lateral• The lateral surfaces of the tip (2) are moving in a linear pattern, similar to the stroke of Surfaces a bladed hand instrument. (3) Convex• Adaptation of this lateral surface provides the most efficient deposit removal. Surfaces• Adapt the terminal 2–3 mm of tip for optimal performance.• When concave front or convex back surfaces (3) are adapted to the tooth surface, (2) Lateral the instrument will chatter against the surface rather than effectively remove deposit. SurfacesPIEZO TIP ADAPTATION (3) Concave• Adapt the lateral surface to the tooth for optimal performance. Surfaces• Maintain tip angulation near zero degrees — parallel to tooth surface.• To minimize the risk of root damage, never adapt tip at a 90˚ angle.• Use little or no lateral pressure and let the tip do the work for you.• When concave front or convex back surfaces are adapted to the tooth surface, the instrument will chatter against the surface rather than effectively instrument.SENSORY OBSERVATIONS• Smooth vibration enhances tactile sense for instrumentation.• The smooth motion of the tip is an excellent option for patients with root sensitivity.• Piezo tip vibration is very smooth and quiet when adapted correctly on a lateral surface.• Deposits are pulverized, resulting in a slurry of debris that is visible in the water at the back of the mouth.• Calculus is generally not removed in big chunks as commonly seen during magnetostrictive instrumentation. Lateral surface of tip in useTo achieve the greatest efficiency and patient comfort, C23it is best to adapt the lateral sides of your piezoelectricinstrument to the surface of the tooth.

Rotate the Combitorque® wrench clockwise. Once the instrument is screwed all the way in, give an extra quarter of a turn to obtain the 2 mm loss can result in required torque. Incomplete tightening may cause the tip to become 50% efficiency loss loose or lack vibration. 1 mm loss can result in4. When using the Combitorque® Wrench without a tip previously inserted 25% efficiency loss into the tip carrier, take the following step: place the Combitorque® Wrench over the tip by slipping tip through the small hole in the bottom, closed end of the tool. This will position the tip within the Combitorque® Wrench for safety and convenience.TIP REMOVAL1. Hold the handpiece vertically. Insert the tip through the hole in the bottom of the Combitorque® Wrench.2. Depress wrench slightly while rotating to fully secure tip to wrench.3. Turn the wrench counter-clockwise to loosen and remove tip from handpiece.4. Once removed from handpiece, do not remove the tip from the wrench carrier.OPTIMUM EFFICIENCYScaling efficiency can significantly diminish with worn tips. Inferiorperformance and poor water delivery can result from worn, damaged, bent, or altered tips. For optimal scaling efficiency, we recommendchecking tips regularly for signs of wear.C24

EVEREDGE® TECHNOLOGY NEW FINELY-HONED FINISH EverEdge scalers are sharp…EverEdge 2.0 scalers are even sharper. Using an enhanced finishing process, Hu-Friedy’s professional artisans are creating edges that are scientifically measured to be over 60% sharper than the next closest competitor. Less force means easier, more comfortable scaling for the clinician and patient. PROPRIETARY PROCESS Our proprietary processing ensures that the superior edge retention and wear characteristics of EverEdge Technology will last the entire life of the instrument. Since EverEdge is not a superficial coating, the instruments can be resharpened like any other scaler. DIAMOND KNURL The unique diamond knurl pattern on the large diameter handle provides a confident and comfortable grasp. The #9 EverEdge handle was also designed to be the optimal weight for reduced hand fatigue. STAYS SHARPER EVEN LONGER EverEdge 2.0 uses a new, optimized heat control process in order to maintain the hard, sharp edge. This heat control, plus several manufacturing intricacies in Hu-Friedy’s proprietary process, provide the durability needed for effective procedures and continued use. COMFORT ZONE CONE WITH SIGNATURE SERIES PURPLE GRIPS Celebrating Dental Hygiene every day with new hygiene-purple grips! The colored grips also allow for easy identification of the EverEdge 2.0 scalers in each set-up. As an educator, I always recommend Hu-Friedy’s EverEdge instruments to my dental hygiene students. When well maintained, they can be sharpened so quickly and easily. A real advantage of the fine sharp cutting edge is less hand fatigue for the hygienist and better comfort for the patient, so both the clinician and patient can feel the benefits of EverEdge. — JILL NIELD GEHRIG, RDH, MA Dean Emeritus, Division of Allied Health The EverEdge 2.0 blades sharpened very easily and remained sharp with each additional use.” — JUDITH REID, M.Ed, RDH Visit Hu-Friedy.com/EE2 for more information.D2
