Fall 2022 The 2022-23 school year is off to an exciting start. Students and teachers met with industry partners at the Seguin CTE Showcase, the Cosmetology salon is open for business for the first time in over 2 years, Ag/FFA students are preparing for LDE competitions, Pharmacy Tech and CNA students toured GRMC and learned about career opportunities there, and Engineering, Construction, and Welding students are preparing for Manufacturing Day in late October. This is just the beginning of what is shaping up to be a great year for our CTE department as our students move toward graduating #CareerReady.

MatCast- A/V Mr. McCrary’s Audio Video Production 1 & 2 classes have been hard at work filming daily episodes of SHS Matcast morning announcements. If you have any items that you would like included in an upcoming MATCAST episode please reach out to Mr. McCrary via email at: jmccrary@seguin.k12.tx.us Arts, Audio/Video and Communications Mr. Cantu’s Principles of Arts, Audio/Video, and Communication students received hands-on training on how to manipulate manual camera settings and learned about finding the best camera angles for their photos..

Business Professionals of America Mrs. Weber’s Business Management classes participated in a challenge to “sell anything.” The students were given different mystery items in an envelope and had to work with their sales partner to create a marketing campaign. Construction Trades Students from Mr. Rice’s Construction Trades classes had hands-on-practice following blueprints while assembling furniture. The finished products were new desks for the CCMR team. Forensics Ms. Noble’s Forensics students have been hard at work! They started the school year off researching different forensic careers and making posters to present to their classmates. Next they processed evidence from mock crime scenes- examined paint layers from three suspect vehicles, and analysed chemical properties to determine the substance.

Cosmetology Ms. Guerra and Mr. DeLeon submitted over 65 students’ applications for the Cosmetology Operator permits. These students are beginning their 1,000-hour journey to graduating high school as a fully licensed Cosmetologist. Cosmetology The SHS Cosmetology Salon opened up for customers again for the first time since early 2020! The salon is open every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon from 2:30pm- 7pm. Walk-ins are welcome; however, to reduce your wait time you are encouraged to call and schedule an appointment with the salon: 830-372-5770 ext 33102. The price sheet to the right lists the available services and the cost for each.

FFA FFA sponsored the always popular Chick-fil-a food truck fundraiser in September. The students were out gathering support for upcoming AG events. Good luck to Kadie Erwin as she travels to Dallas, TX with Ms. Canham. Kadie will be participating in the State Fair of Texas Major Show on October 5th and 6th. Ms. Canham’s Vet Tech classes are accepting pets for grooming services. Refer to the chart below for services offered and pricing. Health Sciences & HOSA Mr. Tapley’s Health Sciences students developed teamwork skills while competing to see which team could build the tallest tower out of newspapers. HOSA is currently hosting a fundraiser to raise funds for upcoming competitions and leadership conferences. Welding The Welding program acquired Students in Mr. Spence’s some new equipment for the Welding class worked on a welding shop and Commercial project building metal tool racks Metals Company (CMC Steel) for the welding shop. generously offered their time and muscle to help move the equipment. Last spring the Welding Class of 2022 partnered with Commercial Metals Company (CMC Steel) and to build a trailer smoker. The smoker is being raffled off by this year’s Welding Class. Tickets cost $20 and are available in Mr. Spence’s classroom- C111. The drawing will be held during the October 28th football game.

Teamwork Makes the Dream Work On September 21, 2022 the CTE Department participated in the Seguin Economic Development Council’s “Seguin CTE Showcase”. The Showcase provided industry members from throughout Seguin the opportunity to meet and explore career and technology courses available in SISD, Navarro ISD and Marion ISD CTE Departments.
