Giac Lam Pagoda is the oldest Buddhist temple in Ho Chi Minh City, also known as Son Can and Cam Dem. The pagoda was built by Mr. Ly Thuy Long, a native of Minh Huong community (Ming dynasty immigrants), in 1744 and has undergone a number of restorations. Giac Lam offers an opportunity to explore a typical old Southern pagoda with architecture and art of excellence as well as a collection of almost-intact antiquities. The ancient statues in the main hall date back to the 17th-18th centuries, while the system of delicately, vividly carved relief wooden panels, horizontal lacquered boards and parallels express the hope for peace and the motto of a happy life. The expression is achieved through the use of familiar images and rich symbols of Southern culture such as: ochna, orchid, daisy, bamboo, gourd, squash, custard apple, dragon, unicorn, squirrel, etc. In addition, another signature feature of Giac Lam Pagoda lies in the garden space where the Stupa and the centuries-old towers worshiping the pagoda’s monks and ancestors stay hidden under the verdant trees. Vien Giac Pagoda, typical of Northern Buddhism, was founded by the Venerable Thich Hong Tinh in 1955. The pagoda was originally a small temple erected for retreat, so called Doc Giac (Alone in Enlightenment). After reconstructions, the pagoda is now named Vien Giac, which signifies Full Enlightenment. The pagoda was designed with Oriental architecture style and traditional Vietnamese style renowned for its adjustable and sophisticated nature. At Vien Giac pagoda, visitors will be immersed in the tranquility of a meditation space, with yellow and brown as primary colours. You will also get to admire a system of Buddha statues with remarkably delicate and beautiful carvings which bring about a harmonious, solemn and ancient aesthetics. Another outstanding feature of Vien Giac pagoda is Dang Quan Stupa which was built in a high octagon shape topped by a lotus, wholly decorated with Vietnamese ceramics by Minh Long and Bat Trang. The warehouse is divided into three main sections including a bomb storage, an ammunition storage and a petroleum storage, all well-armed and heavily-shielded. In 1954, Saigon - Cho Lon Special Forces launched a surprise attack and destroyed the warehouse, notching up the most impressive victory in the South at the time, earning national and international reputation. The temple had been known by its initial name of Onteskosey until it was renamed Pothiwong in 1993. Constructed in the early twentieth century, Pothiwong Pagoda exudes the inimitable architectural air of Southern Khmer pagodas. The embossed reliefs are used as decorations on the outer wall of the main hall depicting beautiful images of fairies and the holy bird Krud holding up the temple roof, all of which are taken from the folklore culture of the Khmer. All the walls, ceilings, roofs, columns, trusses, and doors are sculpted and decorated by Khmer artisans with images inspired primarily by the life of Buddha and in Khmer community life which resulted in a distinguishing characteristic of the temple. Annual Chol Chnam Thmay New Year Festival takes place at the pagoda and lasts for three days from April 14th to 16th, which draws huge attention from visitors and numerous attendance. Ba Hoa Market, also known as Ward 11 Market, is located on Tran Mai Ninh Street. The market is known as \"a miniature Quang Nam\" in the heart of Saigon, offering rustic but truly exceptional specialties unique to the sunny, windy land of Central Vietnam. The market was named Ba Hoa market to award the merits to the woman who established this market back in 1954. This is the only market which embraces the Quang Nam culture in Ho Chi Minh City. In this market, the simple and idyllic taste of the Central cuisine is fully preserved in a myriad of delicacies rich in nostalgic and authentic flavours, which are hard to find in the cities. In particular, try walking in the market to be immersed in the little food stalls crowded with diners, and feel the bustling sound of strong Quang Nam dialect. Ba Hoa Market promises an excellent impression of Central Vietnam that you can not afford to miss on your trip to Tan Binh. SO NEAR, SO CLOSE 30
