Some species like Russell’s viper inject poison. Some others opt for an alternative non-chemical method rattle snakes, for instance, catch and push their prey against the ground, while pythons use their muscle power to crush their prey to death. But snakes can’t be neatly divided into poisonous and non-poisonous categories. 2. Even species listed as non-poisonous aren’t completely free of poison. The common Sand Boa, for instance, produces secretions particularly poisonous to birds. So the species doesn’t take any chance—it crushes its prey and injects poison as an extra step. 3. Do vipers need poison powerful enough to kill hundreds of rats with just one drop? After all, they eat only one or two at a time. 4. While hunting animals try their worst to kill most efficiently, their prey use any trick to avoid becoming a meal, such as developing immunity to poison. Some snake killers have partial immunity to poison. Famously, mongooses are highly resistant to cobra poison and with their speed and agility, kill snakes fearlessly. It would be the death of cobras as a species if they didn’t evolve a more deadly poison to stop mongooses. 7. Poison has another important role. It’s an extreme meat softener, specific enzymes break up the insides of the prey. Normally, a reptile depends on the sun’s warm rays to aid digestion. 8. But I wonder if we cannot use venom in our favour. In remote parts of India, local hospitality often involves leather-tough meat. I chew and chew until my jaw ache. Safdarjung Development Area New Delhi 5 August 2020 The Editor The New Indian News New Delhi Subject: Attacks on old people–remedies. Sir, Kindly publish the following views of mine in the appropriate columns of your esteemed daily on the subject cited above. It is very painful to read almost daily the news about the attacks and murder of old people in the country. It is a tragedy of times that a large number of families don’t keep their olds with them. So the old people now physically weak have to fend for themselves. Anti-social elements enter the old couples’ houses, steal their belongings and murder them. These murders have shocked all. They are in danger at all the times. This fear can be avoided if the policemen visit the old couples at convenient times. This shall instill fearlessness in their hearts. Secondly, the neighbours should also keep vigil on them and have good communications with them. Social meetings shall go a long way in reducing this menace. Yours faithfully Tanvi/Shirish Or Importance of Outdoor Games in the Life of a Teenager — Ravi/Raveena, Sports Secretary There cannot be any doubt about the importance and benefits of games for the teenagers. They should be treated as most necessary for the good physical growth and mental development of them. So they are as good as academic pursuits. Games or sports of any kind teach many things. Besides keeping the players physically fit and mentally sound, sports give boost to various human values like fellow-feeling, team spirit, cooperation and mutual help. These values are socially very important as man is a social animal. The most important aspect of outdoor games is that these expose the players towards nature which means indirect respect and response to it. Playing in soil and getting close to nature are ways to learn about it. For teenagers it is most important as they are in the process of growing. @ qualitystudymaterial _telegram 4. Elaborate. Or The poet in the poem, ‘For Anne Gregory’ conveys that we should given importance to the inner beauty and not to the physical appearance. Elaborate with reference to the poem. Ans. Bholi is a child different from her brother and sisters. This obviously makes her an object of neglect and laughter. Bholi can’t speak properly. She stammers when she speaks. She has pock marks on her body which makes her look ugly. She fell down from her cot in childhood and due to that she develops fear and physical disability. Thus she is different from other girls. No one likes her due to that she is made fun of. As a result she talks very little. Her parents also treat her badly and without any affection. They don’t get her new clothes. On the other hand she wears old and discarded or worn out her clothes. Her mother doesn’t support her and calls her witless. Bholi is called a dumb cow. Or In this poem ‘For Anne Gregory’ the poet conveys an essential truth that inner beauty is the real beauty. Physical appearance may appeal as beautiful for some time. But it gets changed with the passage of time. A young man is handsome but in old age that is not so. The speaker says to her that young men love her for her beautiful yellow hair. It is possible they will never love her for what she is really. Anne replies that her hair can be changed. External beauty is all superficial and temporary. Men should not love her for that but should love for her inner beauty. A person can be beautified artificially and this is not beauty. It is inner beauty that lives for ever and it should be the basis of true love. Q.No. 11 of 10 marks is not given as it does not belong to the current syllabus. Click Here to Buy Main Book Online

One should not be too trusting. Describe how Oliver Lutkins made a fool of the young lawyer. Or What lesson on death and suffering did the Buddha teach Gotami in the chapter, ‘The Sermon at Benaras’. Ans. It is seen that those who easily trust others are honest and simple-hearted. They are also the persons who are easily cheated. This is fully applicable to the young lawyer. He easily trusts the hack driver who is himself Oliver Lutkins. The young lawyer comes to New Mullion to serve summons on Lutkins. But Lutkins traps him in his trap. The hack driver (Oliver Lutkins) tells lies after lies about Lutkins. He tells the young lawyer that he will be available at Fritz’s shop. He takes him there. When he is not there he tells that Lutkins will be at Gustaff’s barber shop. He then takes him to his mother. She is such a ferocious woman that she threatens to burn him alive. Thus Lutkins makes the young lawyer a fool of himself. Or The Buddha says in his first sermon that human life is brief. It is troubled and painful. There is no means by which one can avoid dying. Both young and adult, fools or wise fall to death. They are led to death like an ox taken to slaughter. Anyone will not obtain peace of mind from weeping or grieving. On the contrary, his pain will be greater. His body will suffer. One who seeks peace of mind shall seek it if he overcomes all sorrows. The wise know the truth of life.
