Global Warming Is Not A Myth By: Hijab Hassan The average surface temperature on Earth CAUSES: is slowly increasing. This trend in Earth's temperatures is known as global warming. ▪︎Increased dependency on fossil fuels: To better understand global warming, we need to understand the \"greenhouse People burn fossil fuels to power factories, effect\". run cars, produce electricity, and heat A greenhouse is a glass house where plants houses. As fossil fuels burn, they release grow. Glass lets light in and prevents heat carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. from escaping. This trapped heat keeps the plants warm even when it is cold outside. ▪︎Deforestation: Trees use carbon dioxide Likewise, Earth’s atmosphere traps energy when they make their own food. Fewer from the Sun. Carbon dioxide and other trees mean that less carbon dioxide is gases—called greenhouse gases—in the air being taken out of the atmosphere. do this trapping. Without these gases too much heat would go back into space, and CONSEQUENCES: living things could not survive. However, as more greenhouse gases get into the air, ▪︎Sudden climate changes they also trap more heat. This leads to ▪︎Glaciers melting at large scale global warming. ▪︎Forest fires ▪︎Higher wildlife extinction rates ▪︎Rising sea levels

What You Can Do ▪︎Use sunlight instead of bulb when possible. Turn off light and unplug appliances when not in use. ▪︎Walk or bike if you can instead of having your parents drive you, otherwise use public transport. ▪︎Ask your parents to switch to CFL or LED light bulb. ▪︎Avoid wasting paper. Try to utilize paper completely by using both sides. ▪︎Participate in plantation drives

Give A Hoot, Don't Pollute By: Kinza Tariq Pollution is when gases, smoke and chemicals are introduced into the environment in large amounts that make it harmful for humans, animals and plants. There are three main forms of pollution: air, water, and land. AIR POLUTION: WATER POLLUTION: The vehicles that we use to get around such as cars, planes and Some causes of water pollution are easy to see. trucks contribute to air pollution as they use fossil fuels, like People dump garbage and sewage into gas, to power their engines. This along with the toxic fumes creeks, rivers, ponds, lakes, and oceans. coming out of the factories are the major causes of air pollution. Factories or cities sometimes release oils, Not only does air pollution cause smog, but it also causes poisonous chemicals, and other wastes into the sickness such as asthma and other respiratory diseases. water. The chemicals used in farming seep into the LAND POLLUTION: ground, Littering, or tossing garbage on the ground, is a form of land and make the groundwater unfit to drink. pollution. Litter is unpleasant to look at. It also can destroy the Chemicals also may drain into rivers and lakes, habitats, or homes, of plants and animals. According to where they can harm fish and other forms of WWF(World Wildlife Fund), 65% of waste that ends up on life. Pakistan’s beaches is plastic which is non-biodegradable.

What You Can Do Grow plants using seeds of fruits and vegies you eat. Throw garbage in the bin Participate in cleaning drives

Waste Disposal By: Noor ul Ain The waste humans generate has been harmful to the environment. Humans are generating too much trash and cannot deal with it in a sustainable way. Waste that is not biodegradable and cannot be properly recycled, is filling our oceans and landfills. Altogether, the amount of waste generated affects the environment in multiple ways: It contributes to the worsening climate crisis: Landfills, considered the last solution in the waste disposal system, release methane, a very powerful greenhouse gas linked to climate change. Has a negative impact on wildlife and the natural environment Is harmful to our public health What You Can Do Reduce the usage of paper by switching to online receipts and magzines. Practice the 3R's- Reduce, Reuse and Recyle Use reusable bags instead of plastic bags.

Resource Depletion By: Shameeta Khalid Resource Depletion occurs when the renewable and non- renewable natural resources become scarce because they are consumed faster than they can recover. The term resource depletion is commonly associated with water usage, fossil fuel consumption, trees and fishing. All of these resources have been depleted primarily because of human activities. Causes Overconsumption of natural resources Global Warming as it leads to melting of glaciers Excessive use of chemicals in farming combined with poor farming practices Consequences Soil erosion Global Warming caused by the rise of greenhouse gases- Extinction of species and loss of biodiversity. Flooding and drought What You Can Do Use renewable sources of energy. For example sunlight, wind and tidal energy. Use sustainable agriculture practices. Use public transport to reduce usage of fuel. Save electricity in our daily lives whenever possible. Buy more power-efficient devices.

By: Misha Umar Deforestation is the clearing, or cutting CONSEQUENCES OF DEFORESTATION: down, of forests. The word is normally used to describe the actions of humans in Trees and other green plants produce oxygen, the removing forests from the planet, rather gas needed by humans and other animals to live. than the destruction caused by such When trees are cut down, less oxygen is released natural events as hurricanes. into the atmosphere. Trees also capture carbon dioxide, one of the CAUSES OF DEFORESTATION: gases that contribute to a problem known as global warming. When they are burned, trees ▪︎Trees are cut down so their wood can be release carbon dioxide back into the atmosphere. Deforestation on steep mountain hillsides can burned or used to make things, such as lead to erosion. The land can get worn away furniture, or paper. because the trees are not there to hold the soil together. What You Can Do ▪︎Buy from companies that are environment friendly. They don’t ruin our environment just to make money. ▪︎Try to eat less meat which requires grazing lands – another reason why forests are cleared.. ▪︎Buy products made out of recycled materials. ▪︎Do not buy newspapers or magazines. Read them online. ▪︎Buy furniture and wood that is Certified. This means that the wood was legally cut down

Loss Of Biodiversity By: Manal Wasim As living things evolve, some species become extinct, or die out completely. Extinction is a natural phenomenon. However, humans have been greatly accelerating this process.A major factor leading to a loss of biodiversity is the destruction and fragmentation of habitats, as land is cleared for lumber or to make room for agriculture, settlement, and other human activities. Other factors include global warming, pollution, overfishing and overhunting, and the introduction of species into new habitats. What You Can Do 1) Don’t throw waste in water. 2) Grow native plants and take care of them 3) Store some water in a pot in an open place for animals to feed.
