How did you go about selecting a research topic for your thesis, and what were some of the factors that influenced your choice? I am one of those weird people, I flourish when I get disrespected. When I was doing the ‘Getting to Know the Registry’ feature in the staff newsletter (Weekly Highlights) last year, a lot of people were reading it. Even my favourite people: business analysts. Then one of them sent me a text message which read “Your views on IT people are so interesting that you even do research on them…I wonder if the perceptions that stakeholders have about IT people have an impact in the success of IT projects they are involved in.” A thesis that is examined by three professors, one of them inter- national cannot be just based on “views on IT people.” So, when I decided to take the PhD route, I thought to myself, “I have already established that the RAF’s Records Management practices were poor in my previ- ous papers. I know what we are doing wrong.” I have shared with you RAFzins how we can fix it through the ‘Getting to know the Registry’ feature. The only other avenue that was left for me to explore was “Adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to manage records in support of the claims management system at the Road Accident Fund in South Africa.” I know it is a very bold move, but I am looking forward to the dedication section in my thesis Continues to the next page 2
