RESTAURANT REVIEW Photos courtesy Glynner’s Pub Great Food, Great Service, Great Times By Pat Garry Perhaps the closest thing to walking into the famed TV-Cheers bar is stepping into Glynner’s Pub, a great place to sip and socialize. Owner Brad Glynn opened the doors in May 2005, and he and his staff have built an establishment that delivers quality cuisine and top-notch customer service. They work to make customers feel at home. “Every day we strive to provide the best customer experience by providing outstanding food and service in a relaxing, friendly atmo- sphere. So stop by, order a beer and your favorite menu item, and see what Glynner’s Pub has to offer,”he said38 www.rochestervisitor.com

IRISH DINNER On St Patrick’s Day, Glynner’s will feature their famous Corned Beef dinner. All lads and lassies should visit the Pub on March 17 for the tantalizing corned beef brisket, served with roasted red potatoes and cabbage and cooked in the brisket juices. Try the homemade Irish stew with your favorite beer, and become a little Irish for a day. Too, Glynner’s Pub sponsors many adult sport teams year round, and supports area high schools, public servants, and non-profit organizations within the community. PERFECT SPOT Glynner’s Pub provides a comfortable place to have lunch or dinner, meet friends after work, watch the game, or enjoy a fun night out, at affordable prices. And when weather allows, the Pub boasts an outdoor patio for savoring a little sunshine on a nice afternoon. The bar serves more than 50 import/export beers and includes a wine and cocktail menu. Take advan- tage of Glynner’s daily happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. “Our food speaks for itself,” said Henden. “Come in and try it; you won’t be disappointed, and we guarantee as you’re leaving, you’ll be planning your next visit.” Glynner’s mantra is: “Glynner’s Pub…Great Food, Great Service, Great Times!” My refrain is: “Glynner’s Pub…Awesome Food, Awesome Service, Awesome Times.” Five big stars for Brad and his bunch! 1643 North Broadway 507-252-8800 • www.glynnerspub.comitor.com Rochester Visitor | March 2016 41

Photo by AB Photography.SOLDIERS FIELD VETERANS MEMORIAL Colin L. Powell visited the Memorial on May 16, 2006 with Wayne Stillman and Harry Kerr. Story by Wayne Stillman. Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial The Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial is an impressive 4 to 5 million-dollar Memorial that was built to honor those who gave all and dedicated to all who served. Many people and contractors in the construction trade, plus many others, donated their time, talent and materials to make this Memorial one of the finest in the country. It was built without the use of tax dollars and all committee members are unpaid volunteers. An interest bearing perpetual fund of $500,000 was established to maintain the Memorial. Located five blocks south of the Mayo Clinic, at 300 7th St. S.W. it consists of four circular granite walls, a 12’ X 51’ main wall, fifty trees, 4,920 pavers, thirty six granite benches, and the US Flag, the Minnesota flag, six Armed Forces flags and the POW/MIA flag. The outside walls feature battle graphics from the Civil War to the Gulf War and the inside walls are engraved with stories of important military events from the Revolutionary War to the Gulf War. Educational markers that show the history and proper etiquette of the American Flag stand inside of the memorial. A statue of a mother and child sits in front of the Wall and statues of a nurse and a medic treating a wounded soldier to the rear of the Wall of Remembrance. The logos of the Military Academies are engraved on the rear of the Wall. There is a small complex featuring a statue of a WW II soldier at the corner of 6th St. and 2nd Ave S.W., the entrance to the Memorial. Cannons from the Gulf War and World War I are on display. Primary funding came from the sale of pavers, purchased by or for veterans that form the walkway surrounding the Memorial. The pavers are a piece of granite 8” X 20” that contain the name of a veteran, when they served, and the branch they served in. Focal point of the Memorial is a granite wall twelve feet high by fifty one feet long that contains the names of over 2,300 people, from S.E. Minnesota, that died as a result of injuries sustained in the service from the Civil War to the present. www.soldiersfieldmemorial.org Contact: Wayne Stillman 507-289-8981, E-mail [email protected] www.rochestervisitor.com
