Split pillow blocksDefinition and capabilities˾ The SNC pillow block housing is a technological advancement of our previous SNB and SNUseries.The major abutment dimensions of the SNC series correspond to the specifications inISO 113/II : 1994 and DIN 736 :1984 to DIN 739 :1984.The bearing units are based on our split housing. By default, these are made of grey cast ironin compliance with DIN EN 1961and are available in different sizes. On request, for particularlyhigh loads, housings can also be produced from other materials, such as ductile iron, in thesame dimensions. Each individual housing can hold bearings of different diameters and widths.They are primarily self-aligning roller bearings.However, the crucial factor is the type of application. For example, if high speeds are required,self-aligning ball bearings can be used. Self-aligning roller bearings are particularly well suitedfor high axial and radial forces.Combined with the various sealing elements, this results in a variety of possible designs, whichmakes up SNR’s standard range. The shaft diameters are between 20 and 160 mm (specialdimensions on request). The bearings with tapered bore inner are attached to the shaft usingan adapter sleeve. By contrast, bearings with a cylindrical inner ring lie directly on the shaft.There are a wide variety of sealing options for the housing due to the large number of practi-cal applications. The most important factors are the speeds and the external influences thatact on the unit.˾ The SNR standard range includes:• Double lip seal• Felt strip seal with retainer• V-ring seal with contact washer• Labyrinth ring seal• Taconite sealAll SNC units are designed for both through shafts and for shaft ends.A cover plate is available for these versions, which is inserted in the sealing groove in place ofthe seal. 644

Split pillow blocksDesign criteria: loads and torquesThe table below contains information about the breaking 180°loads of SNC bearing housing and the maximum loading 150°capacity of the connecting bolts between the upper andthe lower section and the foot bolts. The load directions 120°and the safety factor selected for the appropriate 90°operating conditions can be used to determine the per-missible loads. In general, a safety factor of 6 is used for 55°engineering calculations. The specified values are 0°intended solely as reference values.
