Having made our home for more than 60 years at Michael A. Ries Ice Rink in Parma Ohio, we are a non-profit Club. Forestwood Figure Skating Club of Parma connects young skaters with goal-oriented coaching. Our Basic Skills sessions prepare each student for fun competition, shows and exhibitions. Once beginners pick up the fundamentals in our Learn to Skate program, they can move on to private instruction with the club’s Home Club Professionals, and Associate Club Professionals, which combines for more than 50 years of experience. Club sessions afford access to USFSA sanctioned events such as advanced level competition, testing, shows, exhibitions and private ice time on a rink uncluttered by fellow skaters or rush hour zamboni traffic. Forestwood Skating Club of Parma is sanctioned and certified by the U.S. Figure Skating Association, the governing body that oversees testing and competitions for all Olympic hopefuls. Our Mission Statement: “Our vision is to nurture our skaters in reaching their optimal potential and personal skating goals through a club that values their dreams, self confidence, and abilities to the fullest. Additionally, we strive to instill and maintain the love of figure skating and positive sportsmanship in our skaters, parents, and coaches”. Why Join the Figure Skating Club of Parma? Belonging to a figure skating club provides vast opportunities for a skater such as: Private ice time, professional coaches, Ice shows, exhibitions, Quicken Loans arena performances, testing and local and regional and national competitions. Forestwood is the best choice for you and your budget. Ice costs are kept low due to our awesome members and volunteers giving so freely of their time and efforts with fundraisers.

Passing skill Patterned Dance Moves in the Field tests presided over by official judges advances the skater to the next level. Skaters test in moves in the field, free skating, pairs and ice dancing. As a skater advances, the tests become more difficult. The highest achievement in each discipline is passing the “senior,” also called “gold,” test. When a skater passes a gold test, he or she earns the designation “U.S. Figure Skating Gold Medalist” title. Please join us in congratulating these talented ladies, and wishing them the best in all that the figure skating future holds for them.

Libby Bulanda C O N G R AT U L AT I O N S I started my skating journey at the age of 2023 10 in Pavilion Skating Club’s Learn to Skate program, but eventually became a member of Forestwood once I began taking freeskate SENIOR SKATER lessons. In my time skating, I have been a member of the Padua skating team and the Laurel skating team, and have competed several times at the Ohio High School Figure Skating Competition. I recently switched to exclusively doing ice dance, and have enjoyed working on and testing my dances. In high school, I’ve found a love for speech, performing arts, drawing, and piano. In the fall I will be attending Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College in the Environmental Studies program. I want to thank my freestyle coach Allison Vega and dance coach Chris Demarest for everything they have done for me. Though I don’t plan to skate competitively in the future, I am so grateful for the experiences this sport has given me. 2019C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S SENIOR SKATER 2019C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S SENIOR SKATER
Debbie Groth C O N G R AT U L AT I O N S Hi! I’m Debbie Groth and I’m a senior at 2023 Padua Franciscan High School. I will be SENIOR SKATER attending Bowling Green State University and be apart of the exploratory program so I can truly explore my options for future careers. As of right now, I’m strongly considering occupational or schroth physical therapy! I have been skating since I’ve been 4 years old and have worked with Sarah Kapitan, Amanda Lange, Marc Lang , and my current coach Holly Gray. And another thank you to Rachel Gray for all your help as well!! Without their hard work and dedication, I wouldn’t be the skater I am today. Thank you to my entire family and friends for all the support and love you shed on the ice for me! I am so lucky and proud to be apart of this amazing club and cannot wait to see what the future holds for them. I will continue my figure skating journey in college and will certainly be back here at Forestwood whenever I can. GUEST PERFORMERS PADUA FRANCISCAN FIGURE SKATING TEAM Extra, Extra, Read All About it! Padua Franciscan High School Skating Team wins 11th State Title! The Padua Franciscan Figure Skating Team is finishing up their 17th season under the direction of Team Manager, Lori Margevicius. More than 100 young women and men have \"skated through\" Padua's program. Current coaches are Alex Babb, Alexis Flinn, and Allison Vega; three former Padua skaters from the inaugural 2007 and 2008 seasons. Please enjoy their spirited version of Newsies on Ice, which took first place in the heated Production Ensemble event at the recent Ohio High School Team Figure Skating Championship. The team is proud to call Forestwood home!
GUEST PERFORMERS INTENSITY SYNCHRONIZED SKATING Intensity Synchronized Skating is located in Mentor, OH and has 3 teams comprised of different levels of skating. The Open Juvenile team trains May- February for competitions at 6 events throughout the season in Michigan, Ohio and Illinois. They also perform at ice shows, Monster’s Games and other events. The coaches are Alexandra Gamber and Alex DiCola and the team of 9 are 8th-10th graders who come from different area high schools. The free skate program selected for 2022-2023 season was a medley of tunes from Shania Twain. Synchronized skating is where 8 to 16 skaters perform together on the ice as a team. They move as a flowing unit at high speed over the ice, while performing elements, such as blocks, circle, lines, pinwheels, intersections, no hold elements, and utilization of moves in the field footwork. The skaters work with wonderful coaches, learn about teamwork on the ice and develop new skills. We are always looking for new skaters who are interested in joining the organization. It’s a great way to improve your skating, make new friends, and enjoy competing on the ice as part of team!
