SullySully is the nick name for a man who is called Chesley Sullenberger,who is a famous pilot. He was born on January 23,1951 in Texas (UnitedStates). Sully always had a interest in planes and from an early age hebuilt a model airplane. Sully has one sister and her name is Mary.According to his sister, Sully became interested in flying after seeingmilitary jets from an Air Force base near his house. Sully learned how tofly at the age of 16 from a private air strip beside his home.On January 15 2009, captain Sully landed his airplane on the HudsonRiver. Shortly after take off a flock of birds flew into the engine and

caused the engine to fail. Captain Sully managed to glide the planedown on to the Hudson River. The 155 people on board the plane allmanaged to get out through the exits and lucky enough passing byboats picked them up.After the accident people started to call it, \"The Miracle On The Hudson\"because no one could believe that they all had survived. There was aninvestigation into the crash and captain Sully had to explain whathappened. When he was called in, they said \"why didn't you turn backaround and land on the airstrip\", as Sully had just taken off.Sully knew his engine failed and would not make it back to land on theairstrip.When they did a flight simulator it took about 20 attempts to land on theHudson River. That just proved that Sully decision to land on the HudsonRiver was the right one. Sully was so experienced that he managed toglide the plane down on his first and only attempt. Everybody that hesaved that day praised him but the insurance company were not happyto pay out the 79.6 million.Sully retried a year later after being with the American Airlines for 30years. He is now an investigator and safety expert.Chesley Sullenberger is still alive to this day.
