1. THE TERRACES APARTMENTS | SOLE DESIGNER / PROJECT ARCHITECT | 2015 - 2017CEN`TURY CITY, CAPE TOWN The ‘Terraces’ Development, a 144 unit apartment block, ENTIRE completed in 2017, is located on a prominent site in Century PROCESS City Precinct, Cape Town. The intial brief was to create a OF CREATION building with a fitting presence, responding to both commercial and residential neighboring contexts, and the design challenge CONCEPT DESIGN was to maximize north light to the units, while creating a street presence with the ‘back end’ walkway side. The formal responce was to step the massing up and down, varying from 3 storey ‘stacks’ to 7 storey ‘stacks’, easing into a higher scale, as well as redefining a typical residential language to the back roadside. The simplistic ordering mechanism of ‘box frames’ allowed the formal language of the design to read from the front (north) side, as well as the road (south) sidewhile providing privacy to private balconies. ++ variegated massing extruded segmentation dynamic planes 3D RENDER of SOUTH WEST CORNER : SKETCHUP &

2. SALVAGE MATERIAL LAB [1] Thesis Project | masters year | REMAKING WASTE IN A THROW-AWAY SOCIETY Approaching sustainability not only in terms of energy consumption of buildings, but as an extension the life cycle of materials used to create buildings. My thesis project explored the notion of closed-loop ideology, using ingenuity to RE- create architecture, re-using and Re- constructing from salvaged materials. Through the analysis of existing waste material streams, it was discovered that the creation of a centralized, material waste node would reduce the impact onto existing city landfills, drawing building waste from the CBD and surrounding industrial suburbs of Paarden Eiland and Salt River.

The configuration of the salvage material PROGRAMMINGlab was crutial in the development of thesuccess of the project. a clear logic forthe intake and re-making of materials wasdeveloped, with zones of intake and exit ofmaterials, and re-making workshop spacesextruded from a central movement spine. 04

3. ‘SEVENTY8 on EDWARD’ MULTI-USE COMMERCIAL RE-DEV | DESIGNER | 2017 - 2018BELLEVILLE, CAPE TOWN The site for Seventy8 on Edward houses a dated, 5 storey office block on a prominent corner site in Bellville, Cape Town. I was responsible for the concept design of the existing building renovation, and through a feasibility analysis, it was established that the neighbouring plot could be consolidated, enabling extra allowa- ble bulk. We took the initiative to propose an extra 800 sq m of new ground floor retail, as well as new A- grade offices on the top level in addition to the existing refurb. The office design is conceived as a glass box atop a sturdy base, with floating, tipped-up planar roofs allowing light into the deep space from above. The development is expected to act as a catalyst for redevelopment in the area, uplifting the rentals of the surrounding existing office space. Construction is currently underway and due for completion March 2019 URBAN REFURB & UP RETAIL AND OFFICE FLOOR PLAN

4. KLIPFONTEIN CORRIDOR URBAN PLANNING | BAS Honours Project |PART 1 GROUP PROJECT The Klipfontein “ Corridor” is an urban NODES arterial route linking some of Cape Town’s socio-economically disadvantaged suburban areas to the city. The route runs from the edge of the city bowl to Somerset West. The focus for the project was on catalyst mixed-use develop- ment between Mowbray andGugulethu, where there is vacant land and oppurtunity for designed intervention. As a group project we were tasked at mapping the area to plan for a densifying urban scheme. We noticed the area was intermittently busy at parts and not at other parts due to public nodes- namely sports facilities. Through this entry point, wedecided to densify using a scheme of public routes between new develop- mental nodes, specifically stemming form our synthesis of mapping. ANCHORS

The project served as an entry point into the next phase : individually developing a designated site within the stem - node scheme under the guidelines proposed by the urban scheme.

PART 2 SITE PROJECT DEVELOPMENT: INFILL HOUSING The individual aspect of the project was to develop a project based on our urban scheme guideline. The ‘island boulevard’ housing was a mixed use development comprising of student dorms, apartments and retail space 09

5. ‘the VINEYARDS’ RESIDENTIAL ESTATES | SOLE DESIGNER / PROJECT ARCHITECT | 2017 - 2018 MASTER PLANNING >>> The Vineyards 1 & 2 are multi-residential schemes consisting of 110 and 104 units respectively. With highly constrained budgetary requirements, ingenuity was needed to reinterpret standard construction techniques and the associated traditional aesthetic. Through interpretation of client requirements and site constraints, I designed both schemes’ master plans at 60 units per hectare, developed the cluster arrangements, unit typologies and modulated architypes. Both schemes design intent aims to maximize the public and private environment for the user - densified perimeter massing for sheltered outdoor living and positive street edges, with internal communal green spaces.BURGUNDY ESTATE, CAPE TOWN completion date 2018

SITE DEVELOPMENT PLAN>>> sense of community The design ethos is derived from creating a community oriented feel, with a vibrant central node – a point of congregation and relaxation. Strong emphasis has been placed on green open common areas, such as the pedestrian boulevard, that bisects the central green lung, which activates the clubhouse and park. Extensive planting will occur along these routes and around the park for an enhanced pedestrian experience. The built form runs around the perimeter of the site, predominantly the West and North sides, densifying up against Vineyard Crescent, creating a street-front presence, and ensuring safety with eyes on the streets. 54a.Two of the projects I was working on at SAOTAincluded two upmarket apartment buildingslocated on Ikoyi Island, Lagos - one of the mostaffluent areas in the city.Following initial meetings with the client, I wasbrought into the project at the initial designphase, to continue the development of thebuilding, in particular to rework the existingplans. Both buildings required furthercoordination of a basement level, ground floorpublic space, typical floor with 2 - 4 apartmentunits, duplex units, penthouse units as well asduplex penthouse units. Changes remodeledon Revit were then put into a Final DesignConcept Pack (IDC) to be reviewed by the clientfor approval. All images are courtesy of SAOTA. 12

7. HOUSE VAN WIJK BACKING - INOPENING - OUT Perched high on the hills of Somerset West, the plo in an upmarket estate enjoys spectacular views of NORTH LIGHT False Bay. The client required a contemporary, 3 bedroom, single storey house with strong emphasis on semi-outdoor living and a robust dynamic mater pallette. The L-shaped layout opens itself out to the views south-west, while backing itself towards the neighboring plots, providing privacy and sheltering the outdoor braai and pool area.PUNCTURED

W YNB ERG COM M U NITY CENTRE | BAS 3rd year Individual Project | The design for a community centre in Wynberg LINEAR BOU NDARIES challanges the existing urban and social condition of boundaries, which not only create dead uninteractive space but also reinforce the dichotomies of indoor / outdoor, public / private, and inclusive / exclusive. In search of social enhancement and upliftment, the community centre design is conceaved as allowing freedom of use, a truely open experience both spatially, socially and progromatically through an openness, connectedness and permeability . wynberg main road PERM EAB ILITY CHALLENG ING THE B OU NDARIESCONCRETE FRAM E AND SLAB CONSTRU CTION
