Business Requirement: Client wanted to have a single User Experience for their Customers with Self Service BI. They used two separate systems SharePoint Portal and Business Object for their Forecasting reports. It was maintenance nightmare to manage permission in SharePoint Groups and Business Object. Also User Experience is mediocre. Mobile and Tablet view were not available. They needed single platform to solve all these business problem. Challenges: Our Client is a leading media company who design a media strategy for their customers based upon consumer research and competitor research study. They purchase consumer research data from independent companies and government sector. And use a complex ETL Process to massage and store in Data Warehouse. However the following challenges in the approach. 1. Refresh rate was 24 hours as ETL process was taking longer time. 2. Dependency upon Developers to build reports. 3. Display reports in proprietary UI tool, which is separate system than regular customer Portal. 4. Longer turnaround time between customers and report developer. 5. Sometimes Compromise on security and permission because of separate Systems SharePoint and Business Object and complex permission structure. Solution Customer Contacted Aktiv for software. Aktiv proposed User Driven BI solution with Microsoft Technology to address the entire problem. Initial Solution was to use PowerBI with SharePoint server 2013 to showcase reports within SharePoint. Customer already had separate Partner Center for each Client and on that SharePoint server Aktiv installed SSAS Power Pivot and PowerBI. Use Report web part to showcase data on SharePoint server from Power View. Use Power Pivot to build Data model to connect disparate Data Sources with minimizing on ETL. Use Power View to showcase Reports on SharePoint Server. After Successful Deployment and Execution of the project. Customer wanted to migrate to Cloud. So both SharePoint and PowerBI need to move to Office 365. Aktiv re-engineered the entire solution from SharePoint to Online.
