It can be used to find programs or files quickly, as well as apps from the WindowsStore and web results. Start typing the word that you want use to help find your program or file then select the results that appear In the results list select Apps or Store to see a list of apps that you can download with similar titles In the results list select Search Suggestions to see a list of suggested web searches for Bing 4

Access Surface Pen settings from the Windows toolbarYou can change a number of settings on the Surface Pen including what the pen does when you clickthe top button once, twice, or click and hold. 2. You need to scroll down the menu to the Pen Shortcuts Options 3. If you choose This PC then you can save to the Surface device itself or to the Oakham School network (including your H: drive documents folder), if you are connected at school. To access school folders at home, using remote desktop is the best solution currently. By selecting This PC and Browse you can select the device folders or the network Oakham drives 7

You need to select the icon, the square willgo back and this will start the downloading process. When the process is completed the icon willreturn to blue.Remote Desktop is pinned 1. Select the Addto the Start Menu and also in option and choosethe Programs List Desktop 2. In PC name enter “apps.oakham.rutland.sch.uk” and then select User account +4. Select the Show more 3. Enter your fulloption, scroll down to school email address,Display Settings, select your network password1280x768 and Save and Save 5. Select the Saved Desktop to connect to Remote Desktop Remember to choose Start > Log Off when finished using Remote Desktop.Remote Desktop will log out automatically after approx. 40 minutes of being idle and any unsaved work will be lost.8

How can I fix this?The desktop has changed when you log into a network PC because your account has changed frombeing a Windows 7 user to a Windows 10 user. The documentation sent before your introductorytraining session explains what this means and details how to set up your desktop PC(s).Can I print from my Surface Pro device? Printing through your Surface Pro is exactly the same as printing through Windows 7 programs (including Office 2016). You only have access to a certain number of printers to prevent the printer list becoming too long. For example, if you are an English teacher then the printers in the English Department should be available on the device when you receive it. As everyone’s printing needs are different, you may find that you need access to additional printers. These can be added to your profile by contacting IT Support.How do I connect to a classroom projector from my Surface Pro?Microsoft Miracast devices will be installed in all classrooms so thatteachers can project onto the whiteboard directly from their Surface Pro.This equipment will be installed through a rolling programme that will takeplace later in the academic year. At the same time, desktop PCs will beremoved and in their place docking stations (to connect the Surface to afull-size monitor, keyboard and a mouse) will be provided. Welcome to your Surface Pro DeviceHow do I access my folder and files when using my Surface at home?The most straightforward way of doing this is by using Remote Desktop. Through Remote Desktop,you can access network files and OSIS. This information is covered on Page 7 of this documentSetting up Remote Desktop Connection.The Oakham School OneDrive also offers unlimited storage as well as allowing you access your filesfrom any device with an internet connection.OneDrive is accessed through the Office 365 homepage and allows you to add folders by simplydragging and dropping into your browser window. 10

Welcome to your Surface Pro DeviceWhat does ‘pinning’ mean?Pinning in Windows 10 allows you to keep folders or programs in a location that is easy to find in thefuture. The main types of pinning are:  Pinning a program / app to the taskbar  Pinning a folder to Quick AccessPinning a program / app to the Start Menu Any open applications can be pinned to the taskbar for your convenience by right- clicking and selecting Pin to taskbar You can pin frequently used folders to Quick Access by right-clicking and selecting Pin to Quick Access You can pin or unpin applications to the Start Menu by right-clicking and selecting Pin to Start / Unpin from Start 11

TheWindows Store is available on the Start Menu and Programs list for users to access and downloadfrom.Software that users install needs to be fully licenced for use on the device as outlined in the DeviceAcceptance Agreement signed whilst receiving the device. If you have queries about this, contact ITSupport.Is there a reset button if the device crashes?A ‘hard reset’ can be performed if your device has frozen / crashed; the Power / Sleep button shouldbe held down for 15 seconds until the Windows logo appears.Do I have to use the Surface Pro device in my teaching?There is no change to the expectation that all teachers will embrace and develop their skills to utilisecurrent technology to improve teaching and learning. As has always been the case, this use needs tobe appropriate and not just superficial.Good teaching is good teaching; skilled teachers will decide where and how technology is bestdeployed within their classrooms. Initially, as you familiarise yourself with the device, your approachmay not change much.Over time, however, you will become more confident and proficient in looking for opportunities toenhance your teaching by utilising the additional set of tools that the Surface Pro provides.The SAMR model provides an interesting framework to consider how new technologies can have apositive impact on teaching and learning, working in an evolutionary rather revolutionary manner.
