AGLOMERADOS COTOPAXI HISTORY
1978 Aglomerados Cotopaxi S.A. was founded in 1978 by a group of visionary businessmen led by Mr. Juan Manuel Durini Palacios, who had ventured into the forestry and timber industry 30 years earlier
1979 Aglomerados Cotopaxi S.A. starts production by introducing particleboard to Ecuador with a modern line imported from Germany. At the end of the same year, it incorporates the first coating line for panels in the country, thus adding more value to its products and expanding the range of designs according to the requirements of the national and international market. Since its beginnings, Aglomerados Cotopaxi has been aware that the raw material must come from renewable forest resources and in 1978 the company made the first purchase of pine forests and land for forestry plantations with the intention of promoting a responsible forestry culture.
1995 To make the most of the forest resource, Aglomerados Cotopaxi installed an industrial sawmill to meet the needs of the solid pine timber market. With this implementation the utilization of the forestry material was maximized, all sub-products of the sawmill are later used for the wood-based panel lines
1996 In 1996, Aglomerados Cotopaxi installs its second coating press, with which the panels can be covered with elegant wood veneers. The following year it inaugurates the largest and most important MDF plant in the Andean Region. Due to the novelty of this product, the company carries out an aggressive advertising campaign. Up until today it is the only MDF mill in Ecuador 1999 Since 1999, the total production of MDF has been sold and Cotopaxi´s boards are exported throughout the Andean region, Central and North America and some countries in Asia, Africa and Europe.
2002 In 2002, the company began the cycle of certifications and continuous improvement work, obtaining the certification of its quality management system ISO 9001.
2003 Aglomerados Cotopaxi creates social responsibility programs with various projects such as community grazing so that the communities can feed their cattle with grass, even in the summer months when it is scarce in some places. Another project is the collection of pine mushrooms, where the communities dehydrate and commercialize them for their economic benefit. Another project is to support the craftswomen's association with wood and training so that they can make handicrafts and wooden toys.
2007 The company undergoes an important technological upgrade by an Oracle ERP that helps to improve and integrate processes. In the same year, Aglomerados Cotopaxi decided to renew its brand and corporate image, generating a new slogan \"Seed the future\" that represents the company's vision. 2008 In 2008, Aglomerados Cotopaxi celebrates 30 years of life and consolidates its leadership as the largest forestry industry in Ecuador, with a forest patrimony of close to 44,000 acres, of which 30,000 acres are cultivated forests of radiata pine and patula, and more than 30% is destined to protected areas for the conservation of ecosystems, native forests, water basins, flora, fauna and other environmental benefits.
2011 In 2011, Aglomerados Cotopaxi obtained the FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council ®) certification, which guarantees the responsible management of forest. 2015 In 2015 the company was certified under the ISO 45001 occupational health and safety system.
2017 EPA CARB Phase II certification is obtained for certain products that control formaldehyde emissions, complying with the standards established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.. 2020 Aglomerados Cotopaxi starts its MDF moulding production line under the brand MOLDUPAXI, with the purpose of reaching the North American market with a value-added solution.
