MATHS, MATHS , MATHS Down with old Pythagoras And down with written maths. Down with Archimedes, And drown him at the baths. If anyone Had to do it I’d make sure it was me First I’d wholly immerse Him, Then Kick Him up a tree. When He had been disposed of, I’d turn an old pythag I’d drag Him through a Holly bush, And he’d come out like a rag. Now my pipe dream’s over, And I’ve nothing more to say Except that Maths Still lives on To be taught another day. Nidhi Kumari Class-8B Being a student is easy. Learning requires actual work. —William Crawford 70
T.H. Palmer Tis a lesson you should heed, If at first you don’t succeed, Try, try, again; Then your courage should appear, For if you will persevere, You will conquer, never fear Try, Try again; Once or TWICE, though you should fail If you would at last prevail, Try, try again; If we strive , tis no disgrace Though we do not win the race What should you do in the case? Try, try again. Dipali Kumari Class-8B Education is not the filling of a pot but the lighting of a fire. —W.B. Yeats 71

DISCIPLINE Discipline is an attribute that involves a definite set of rules, parameters and behavioural patterns. When combined and applied together, these help to maintain the social and personal order of events in life. Discipline can start developing from a very young age right at home. This in turn spreads and develops to affect different areas of life. Maintaining a proper sleep schedule, a healthy diet, exercise, pursuing a passion or hobby, practicing a sport regularly all come under personal discipline. Social discipline includes behaving in a particular manner in gatherings, meetings or events. Whereas professional discipline mostly involves time management, meeting deadlines, greeting seniors appropriately, maintaining healthy relations and so on. Discipline is an inherent part of society and the very beginning of its role starts in our educational institutes. But nowadays, people often lose track of time, and have to make significant efforts to maintain a disciplined lifestyle. SOME WAYS TO MAINTAIN DISCIPLINE IN SCHOOL, WORKPLACES OR EVEN AT HOME INCLUDES:- Being aware of the guidelines and rules of an institute Being considerate and understanding with co-workers Maintaining strictness but being fair Setting clear consequences and punishments Devising family or personal rules Keeping up with a planned schedule The above measures can be the guiding principles to lead a disciplined life devoid of commotion and regrets. We must always remember that with the right quality of discipline all our ventures are certain to succeed. THE PLACE OF MOTHER IN ONE’S FAMILY God’s most beautiful creation on the Earth, is a woman. She is a symbol of W-wisdom, O- origin, M-motherhood, E-energy, N-nobility. Everything good in this world comes from woman. A mother is the one who personifies life. God has created woman to sustain life in the world. The primary school of a child is his home. The first teacher of a child is his mother. A child’s first lesson which a child learns is given by his mother. No dictionary has words enough to define “mother”. Infact she is the most precious creation in the world. She is next to God. She is a producer , a protector, and a provider, an embodiment of love and affection and so many other qualities wrapped in one. Without her presence the survival of a family is unimaginable. We all know that without mother a family is incomplete, but still there is a large scale of discrimination against woman. All the discrimination against woman should be stopped. There should be no discrimination in education of a girl and a boy. She should be facilitated to make her physically and mentally fit. It is absolutely correct to say that when woman moves, the family moves, the society moves and the nation moves too. “Hard work is the key to success” In a faraway village lives a hardworking farmer who has grape fields. Year after year his grapery gives rich harvest and the farmer becomes very successful. He has three sons, they are young and energetic but never bothers to work. As the farmer grows old, he begins to worry about his sons’ future. Then he fell ill and realized his death is fast approaching. He called his sons and told them, “DEAR SONS, I SEE MY DEATH NEAR ME, BUT BEFORE I BID GOODBYE TO YOU ALL, I WANT TO SHARE A SECRET.” He told them,” there is a treasure hidden under the fields. Dig the entire field after my death to find it.” The old farmer died and his sons performed the last rites. The sons began to dug for the treasure without leaving any part of the field but found nothing. CHANDRAYAAN – 3 The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will conduct the first abort demonstration test on India's ambitious astronaut mission by the end of this year. The test will be conducted on the crew module being designed and developed indigenously by ISRO to test the abort safety feature in case of an emergency. While experts hope that the maiden uncrewed mission will launch by the end of 2023, the centre is yet to say anything on the matter pertaining to the Rs 9,023 crore project. The details of the first milestone mission were revealed in Parliament by the Department of Space to a question raised by Congress MP T. N. Prathapan The Gaganyaan mission is one of the most challenging undertakings by ISRO, which has been known for acing difficult missions. The Indian space agency wants to leave no stone unturned on the mission, which will involve three Indian astronauts. Four Indian Air Force officers, whose names remain confidential, are training for the mission and have been working with Russia's Roscosmos for the mission. ROSCOSMOS While the abort test for Gaganyaan happens by the end of this year, the Centre has announced plans to launch the much-awaited Chandrayaan-3 mission and the Aditya L-1 mission in 2023. As Chandrayaan-3 heads to the Moon, the Aditya L-1 will be India's maiden mission targeting the Sun.The Department of Space in its response stated that both the Chandrayaan-3 mission and the Aditya L-1 will launch in the first quarter of 2023 The Chandrayaan-3 is a successor of the Chandrayaan-2 mission that crash-landed on the lunar surface in what was one of the biggest losses for the Indian space agency. Meanwhile, the Aditya L1 mission that will be placed in the first Lagrange point of the Earth-Sun system will study a number of properties of the Sun, such as the dynamics and origins of coronal mass ejections. ISRO had earlier said that it would be trying to launch the lunar mission by the end of 2022, but the new information clears the air around the mission, which has been further delayed to next year. About Gaganyaan Gaganyaan is an Indian crewed orbital spacecraft intended to be the formative spacecraft of the Indian Human Spaceflight Programme. The spacecraft is being designed to carry three people, and a planned upgraded version will be equipped with rendezvous and docking capability. In its maiden crewed mission, Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO)'s largely autonomous 5.3 metric tonnes capsule will orbit the Earth at 400 km altitude for up to seven days with a two or three-person crew on board. The first crewed mission was originally planned to be launched on ISRO's GSLV Mk III in December 2021, but this has since been delayed to no earlier than 2024.This Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) manufactured crew module had its first un-crewed experimental flight on 18 December 2014.As of May 2019, design of the crew module has been completed.Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) will provide support for critical human-centric systems and technologies like space grade food, crew healthcare, radiation measurement and protection, parachutes for the safe recovery of the crew module and fire suppression system. On 11 June 2020, it was announced that while the first uncrewed Gaganyaan launch has been delayed due to COVID-19 pandemic in India, overall timeline for crewed launches is expected to remain unaffected.ISRO chairman S. Somanath announced on 30 June 2022 that the first crewed mission will not happen until at least 2024 because of safety concerns. Applications of Genome editing Applications of Genome editing:- (1)- Medicine Drug development Gene surgery (2)- Biology Animal models Genetic variation (3)- Biotechnology Food Biofuel Genome editing is a method that lets scientists change the DNA of many organisms including plants bacteria and animals. Editing DNA can lead to changes in physical traits like eye colour, disease risk. Scientists use different technologies to do this. Scientists are developing gene therapies treatments involving genome editing to prevent and treat diseases in humans. Genome editing tools have the potential to help treat the diseases with a genomic basis, like cystic fibriosis and diabetes. There are two different categories of genome editing:- (1)- Germine therapy (2)- Somatic therapy Germine therapies change DNA in reproductive cells (sperms and eggs). Changes to DNA of reproductive cells are passed down from generation to generation. Somatic therapies, on the other hand target non-reproductive cells and changes made in these cells affect only the person who recieves gene therapy. When the target DNA is found, Cas-9 one of the enzymes produced by the CRISPR system binds to the DNA and cuts it shutting the targeted gene off. Using Modified versions of Cas-9 researchers can activate gene expression instead of cutting the DNA. These techniques allow researchers to study the gene’s function. Diseases cured by Genome Editing Cancer 99
As we know cancer is a dangerous disease in present. It can be cured using genome editing Blood disorders As we know the lack of blood can even lead to death Blindness As we know a person who can’t see can’t do anything. We can cure a disability by using genome editing. Other major diseases, which can be cured by Genome editing:- AIDS Hemophillia Cystic fibriosis Muscular dystrophy Huntington’s diseases -Future Considerations It is inevitable that these new technologies be applied in the short term to medicine due to, as always, the fact that scientific development advances faster than its regulation. Therefore, the future poses the necessity of developing a working system that enables us to apply the new technologies in an ethical way, considering that the pace of development is greater than the pace in which these technologies can be regulated. Bhavishya Dhyani CLASS-9B ‘The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. -Nelson Mandela 100
