Poems On Trees I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is preset Against the earth sweet flowering breast. A tree that looks at God all day And lefts her leafy arms to pray. A tree that may in summer wear A nest of robins in her hair. Upon whose bosom snow has lain Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me But only God can make a tree. RITURAJ VERMA VIII A “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” 56

A WISE OLD OWL An old owl lived in an oak. Everyday he saw incidents happening around him. Yesterday he saw a boy helping an old man to carry a heavy basket. Today he saw a girl shouting at her mother. The more he saw the less he spoke. As he spoke less, he heard more. He heard people talking and telling stories. He heard a woman saying that an elephant jumped over a fence. He also heard a man saying that he had never made a mistake. The old owl had seen and heard about what happened to people. Some became better and some became worse. However, the old owl had become wiser each day. Moral of the story: You should be observant, talk less but listen more. This will make you a wise person. Vibhav Yadav VIB “To err is human; to forgive, divine.” 57

The Boy Who Wants To Get Rid Of His Troubles There lived a boy named Bhola in a village, the financial condition of Bhola's house was so bad that if he did not work for a day, the householders would have to sleep hungry, but Bhola never. He also did not let his housemates sleep. After some time, Bhola got married and a few days later, he had two children. Now Bhola's problems increased even more because now he had to arrange for the expenses of the children along with other things like children's school fees, books. One problem in his life did not end and another would come. Being upset by this, Bhola went to a sadhu mahatma who had come to the village. He told him all his problems in detail that his life was going through many troubles, one did not end and the other came. Sadhu Maharaj smiled on hearing Bhola and took him to a river near the village. On reaching the river, the sage Mahatma said “I will answer your questions by going across the river”. Bhola said “Okay Sadhu Maharaj stood on the bank of the river, a lot of time passed but the sadhu did not move from the banks of the river nor did he say anything. Finally, Bhola got upset and asked the sadhu Maharaj that he was talking about going across the river, but he had been standing at the same place for quite a while. “Why are you not going across the river?” The Mahatma replied “let the river dry up, then I will go”. Hearing this, Bhola's head was shocked and said that Maharaj, this river is never going to dry up, you have to go through the river to go across it. This is what Sadhu Maharaj said, “I want to explain to you that the problems are just like this river in our life, if we have to move forward in our life then we will have to go through these problems”. SHARANYA PATHAK VIIIA “That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.” 58

THE JOURNEY OF A WORRIER TO WARRIOR “ Walls of an isolation ward seems so faded”, said Hussain, a 30 year old Maths Teacher from Leh. He got positive for covid-19 and was shifted to an isolation ward. For a few days he was very disturbed and worried about his health. Hussain was working as a Maths teacher in a secondary school. As a teacher, Hussain felt bad because he could not teach any of his students due to living in an isolation ward. He was worried about his students. Doctors and nurses were very supportive. All health care workers at the isolation ward were dedicated to their work, none of them were resting. By seeing this, Hussain got an inspiration and his power to fight covid-19 increased. If health care workers can do their job without a fear of death, so do can I. I can continue my teaching from this isolation ward. Hussain took permission from the Principal and school management. The Principal and the school management cooperated with him in obtaining permission from UT administration for conducting classes from isolation ward. Hussain converted his isolation ward into a classroom, where he started interacting with his students through Google Meet app and whatsapp. Hussain also made a Youtube channel where he used to upload videos related to Maths related problems. Hussain’s family was quiet worried about his health but Hussain didn’t stop his teaching. Teaching gave him an energy to fight against covid-19. During live interactions, his students supported him by sending warm messages for early recovery. This gesture made Hussain motivated and to keep a positive attitude to fight. After 20 days of isolation Hussain finally got negative for covid-19. When Hussain heard about this good news that he won against Corona Virus, he was so happy. He gave all the credit to his teaching and will power that he survived. When he came back from isolation centre, he uploaded a video of his covid times and shared his experience of teaching despite being covid positive. Hussain’s positive attitude and Hussain himself became an inspiration for many teachers and students. He also thanked all the doctors, nurses and health care workers for supporting him. At last, he said “My dedication and love for teaching kept me alive”. Disha Shukla XB “A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.” 59

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE William Shakespeare ( 26 April 1564 – 23 April 1616) was an English playwright, poet, and actor, widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world’s greatest dramatist. He is often called England’s national poet and the “Bard of Avon” (or simply “the Bard”). His extant works, including collaborations, consist of some 39 plays,[c] 154 sonnets, three long narrative poems, and a few other verses, some of uncertain authorship. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright. They also continue to be studied and reinterpreted. Shakespeare was born and raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. At the age of 18, he married Anne Hathaway, with whom he had three children: Susanna and twins Hamnet and Judith. Sometime between 1585 and 1592, he began a successful career in London as an actor, writer, and part-owner of a playing company called the Lord Chamberlain’s Men, later known as the King’s Men. At age 49 (around 1613), he appears to have retired to Stratford, where he died three years later. Few records of Shakespeare’s private life survive; this has stimulated considerable speculation about such matters as his physical appearance, his sexuality, his religious beliefs, and whether the works attributed to him were written by others. Shakespeare produced most of his known works between 1589 and 1613. His early plays were primarily comedies and histories and are regarded as some of the best work produced in these genres. He then wrote mainly tragedies until 1608, among them Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth, all considered to be among the finest works in the English language. In the last phase of his life, he wrote tragicomedies (also known as romances) and collaborated with other playwrights. Many of Shakespeare’s plays were published in editions of varying quality and accuracy in his lifetime. However, in 1623, two fellow actors and friends of Shakespeare’s, John Heminges and Henry Condell, published a more definitive text known as the First Folio, a posthumous collected edition of Shakespeare’s dramatic works that included all but two of his plays. The volume was prefaced with a poem by Ben Jonson, in which Jonson presciently hailed Shakespeare in a now-famous quote as “not of an age, but for all time”. SAKSHI YADAV VIIA “United we stand, divided we fall.” 60
