WORKINTEGRATED DEGREEDiscussion Integration of Work experience And Learning :Need Of Hour PROGRAMS E A R N W H I L E L E A R N Work integrated education is the future of Indian education system. It is in budding phase and a lot of innovations, processes and best practices need to be penned down and implemented for betterment of Indian education system. Tata Institute of Social Sciences- School of Vocational Education is the pioneer who has led down the foundation stone of work integrated education in India.Centurion University of Technology and Management , Shri Vishwakarma Skill University are also leading from front and have made remarkable growth in very short span in this domain. Many other universities are also coming up with these different programs. There is high need to create transitional pathways which integrate skill/ vocational education with the conventional/ formal education. This framework should be designed in such a way that it provides students with adequate freedom and time to take informed decisions on their choices. What is work integrated education? Work integrated education is that system in which students learn the skill by engaging in on-the-job train- ing at real shop floor of the indus- try/- company. This is based on the princi- ple of earn while you learn. It enables the trainee to earn a stipend during on-the-job training duration to sup- port their parallel on going vocational education. In this, train- ees get appro- priate industrial expe- rience during the training period. 10 .in April 2021
Discussion This provides them advantage of real floor exposure when they compete for jobs. In this type of education, education curriculum does not emphasize on the theory alone but it is primarily based on the shop floor practices of the industry/company. Vocational education focuses on a specific skill rather than general skill knowledge. The experience is valuable for the trainees as training revolves around the context of work making trainees learn by working and observing. This extensive exposure to industry familiarizes the student with the actual work situations. It is a much needed approach to provide the train- ees with an opportunity to enhance their skills and gain workplace-based industry experience as a part of their certification program. One of the main key outcomes of work integrated learning is that it helps trainees to get insights of “real world” problem solving and experiences to further support academic theory. This provides a plethora of transferable skills. Work integrated education model is beneficial for all parties i.e. universities, employers and trainees as it aims at fostering relationships that equip students with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in competitive job markets. This system provides flexible, modular framework to enable youth to obtain industry relevant qualifications and is highly needed To provide the students with a flexible, modular system for pursuing their higher education from 10th Pass to ITI/Diploma/Degree Level while they work. To recognize prior learning & on the job learning and translated into cred- its which can be accumulated and will form a part of the earned qualifica- tion. BENEFITS • Using academic theory in the real world • Upskilling without career break • Relevant learning content and networking with industry expert • Experiential learning through application of theoretical concept • Superior learning outcomes with work-related insights & vice versa • Gaining new friendships, networks and social circles • Understanding job opportunities and the job market • Improving overall employability • Employers get required trained manpower 11.in April 2021
