Introduction to DCF Football Intelligence Licences 3 “Football Intelligence? – ah, you mean Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar and the like, right?”. Older folks would add maybe Pélé, Cryuff, Beckenbauer, their heroes of the past; older Indian football lovers would maybe add the name of Kannan Pungam, ‘the Pélé of Asia’ as Dettmar Cramer used to call him, while younger Indians probably would name Sunil Chhetri. Exceptional players, all of them, and, guess what: All performance of all players is based on the functioning of exactly the same brain realms ordinary players rely on, too, in any match. “And where does it come from, this huge disparity in the outcome?” Good question, the simple answer given by their mates: “They are the first on the pitch, way before training starts, and they are still out there, even when we have finished shower!” In other words: Real football stars follow DCF’s maxim inherited from our founder Dettmar Cramer: “As long as better is possible, good is not enough”. What sounds so easy and reasonable is no longer a secret since science has investigated the basics behind not only football heroes, making their difference on the pitch. Most prestigious universities around the world among them Sweden’s famous Karolinska Institutet housing Nobel Prize Committee have found out that personal and economic wellbeing in life vastly depends on the well-functioning of major realms in the human brain. Being explicitly nurtured in training results can be seen also off the pitch: “Training for football is training for life”, another maxim of Dettmar Cramer. Copyrights exclusively reserved to

Introduction to DCF Football Intelligence Licences 4 All DCF FI licences presented here were initiated by Dettmar Cramer, founder and mentor of our company, sadly passing away in 2015. Cramer was one of football’s most honoured, world-reknown coaches. His career started being a staff of Germany’s World Championship winning team in 1954, coming in second in 1966. Later Cramer was coaching Japan’s national team to a bronze medal at the Olympics in Mexico 1968. It was in 1967 when FIFA appointed him first full-time instructor, conducting landmark sessions in Kuala Lumpur, Tehran, Mumbai, New York. Huge successes followed as head coach of FC Bayern Munich, Germany’s most famous club: Two European Championships in 1975, 1976 and World Team Cup 1976. Before retiring in 2010 Cramer was instructing players in some 90 countries shaping national leagues and teams of the United States, Malaysia, Thailand, Egypt, Korea, Japan, China. While trainers in the 1950/60ies were too often emphasizing players’ physical improvement Cramer was already focusing on the “nerve system” as it was called then. During the 1990ies, the so-called “Decade of the Brain”, it became clear that brain development starts much earlier than believed. Even toddlers’ brains are growing when they are involved in cheerful communication, fingerplays, and crawling found out at USA’s Harvard University. Indeed, it is during this very early stage of life that motor activity and brain activity have already become interwoven triggering the growth of neural cells and its interconnections. Recognitions of that time were centering around the notion “Executive Functions” (see pp 9, 10) located in the brain’s prefrontal cortex and reached Cramer’s highest attention and thoughts about football’s future: “Reform thinking about and training of football from scratch”, his most important legacy to DCF. Introduction to DCF Football Intelligence Licences 5 Pillars of Football Training Standard Standard Standard Standard DCF FI 01 02 03 04 05 Physical: Technical: Tactical: Psycho- Football social: Intelligence: fitness skills kick & rush endurance and pressing motivation scanning strength tricks counter- empathy memorizing pressing fair play inhibition cognitive flexibility Football history shows players reaching performative excellence based on training according to pillars 1 – 4. Of equal importance are the many socio-emotional competences players learn as members of a team. As a mirror of society football teaches players to strive for their place in the world assuming responsibilities, complying to rules, experiencing frustration tolerance, sharing empathy and enjoying success. In this respect FI licenced coaching allows to meet the extra momentum of the game: Shaping valuable personalities enriching families, communities, societies, nations. Introduction to DCF Football Intelligence Licences 6 No coincidence that we apply FI licence pyramid in Mumbai. Here in 1968, Cramer was conducting one of his legendary two-week coachings. The enthusiasm for football is still around here represented by Football Academy Footie First. Following sincere ambitions to advance people and nation Footie First is conscientiously engaged in educating coaches who have absorbed the spirit of football to encourage the always increasing crowd of youth players of both genders in India. The pyramid of licences consequently starts out with sharing knowledge about basic child education laying the foundations of brain development, the core of any sports activity. Our complementary FI Prac Todd licence is reflecting toddler’s abilities to easily follow playful instructions from age seven months. Many situations in daily life are opportunities for parents, caregivers, teachers to foster early learning. Licence FI Prac Todd enables coaches to intervene and establish the fundamentals of intellectual perspectives. Accordingly licence level “G” is nurturing coaches’ competence of educating kids from age 3 yrs. Since about five decades this age group has been investigated most thoroughly. Licence “G” FI Preschool-Practitioner consists of this in-depth knowledge to teach U6, pre-school kids enabling coaches to demonstrate that adequate interventions are most crucial for school success and prevention of school failure. Introduction to DCF Football Intelligence Licences 7 Licences level “O”, “A” and “L” encompass age-groups from six to fifteen yrs. Besides all the exercises introducing agility, ball control and interplay coaches act wisely when considering the special situation of youngsters just having left kindergarten. Away from parental control, they want to further enjoy decision-making. This, indeed, is demanded on the pitch, and it is obvious that the game of football should also be perceived a social field where kids learn self-determination, the basis of personality. Therefore, self-efficacy is the most crucial outcome of decision-making on the pitch. Challenges on coaches’ side are age-groups tormented by puberty. Coaches need to understand changes in behaviour and cope with erratic conduct, on and off the pitch. During this phase creative interpretations of the relationship between parts and whole, that is, between an individual player and the team can make the difference in coaching. Consequently, all licences consist of considerations as well as exercises enabling coaches to be mindful of the holistic aspects of football and its relevance both for the game and for players’ lives. Copyrights exclusively reserved to

Introduction to DCF Football Intelligence Licences 8 Licence “O” FI Practitioner offers a thorough knowledge base to integrate neurological findings into coaching expertise. The main intention of this license is to max out experiences acquired when traditionally conduct training. Adapting the benefits of cognitive abilities to both the creation of new exercises and the kids’ mental situation will allow supportive interventions improving players’ performance as well as their course of conduct on and off the pitch. Licence “A” FI Practitioner Expert enables coaches who in particular want to instruct youths with professional ambitions. Here the transfer of football relevant cognitive abilities to real life becomes an additional relevance in many perspectives. This licence is especially suitable for coaches with high-level training experience and those who are particularly interested in talent counselling, scouting. This is why a neurological background in combination with considering outcomes on the pitch is of prominent importance in the course of acquiring this licence. Thus the pyramid’s top is reserved to holders of licence “L” FI Master, whose broad field of competences will allow them to instruct applicants of all licences also co-monitoring renewal seminars all licence holders are obliged to pass. Introduction to DCF Football Intelligence Licences 9 General information on acquiring FI Licences The contents necessary to implement every single FI Licence requires proof that applicants have passed AIFF and/or FIFA licences. FI seminars are designed to complement basic expertise in physical, technical, tactical, social aspects of football (see p5). Main emphasis in all license seminars will be laid on becoming able to combine both the values of the game, the abilities to improve performance with personal life off the pitch. In other words: “Training for life”. The application for any FI Licence needs to verify acquisition of all precedent licences of the pyramid. Only Licence FI Todd can be acquired separately.
