“From Conflict to Communion: A Reunion Story?” By Pastor Wayne ZschechFor some people summer time is a time for reunions. Aunts and uncles, first and second cousins and even thosewho are once or twice removed gather to reconnect and share the family history of generations past and maybe cre-ate some new experiences for future generations to share in the decades to come. They’re often easy to spot in theirmatching reunion shirts proudly proclaiming the family name. And despite whatever the activities that may be sched-uled there is always a meal that is shared as family. Sound like a reunion you’ve been to?The Church is a family too. And in 2017 there is going to be a reunion of sorts not only for the church family of TheEvangelical Lutheran Church of Our Savior, but also among Roman Catholics and those Christian denominationsborn out of the Reformation. Beginning this October, our congregation will begin a yearlong celebration of OurSavior’s 90 years of ministry with a variety of events, new ministry initiatives, and special projects to celebrate theanniversary. Additionally, we will participate in the global Lutheran-Catholic Common Celebration of the Refor-mation in 2017 that will include a study of the book From Conflict to Communion in the fall led by me with the hopethat our discussion might also include our neighbors and brothers and sisters in Christ at Christ the King RomanCatholic Church down the street. Copies are available for free on the ELCA website by clicking on the Ecumenicaland Interfaith Relations link at the bottom of the homepage or clicking this link http://www.elca.org/Faith/Ecumenical-and-Inter-Religious-Relations. (You might also check out the other resources on the page such as Decla-ration On the Way, which is a short comprehensive summary of 50 years of Lutheran-Catholic Dialogue, or EngagingOthers Knowing Ourselves, which is a great resource for congregations seeking to develop relationships and work withpeople of other faiths).Sometimes at reunions the family “skeletons” come out of the closet. Stories are told as to why one branch of thefamily tree no longer is seated around the table. In From Conflict to Communion the Lutherans and Catholics who col-laborated to create the book take great care in telling the story of the Reformation from both sides of the table withlove and respect. It tells the Reformation history differently, without the emotional baggage each side used to tell itup until a few generations ago. I like to think of it as a story that will one day lead to a reunion of sorts when we willall be able to gather at the Table of our Lord for a meal, all of us wearing (metaphorically) our baptismal garmentslike the reunion shirts of summer and celebrating our all being one in the family of God, brothers and sisters inChrist. And I believe it will begin with us knowing our story, a story that is 500 years old that began in conflict but isheading toward communion. There’s a reunion coming in 2017, both locally and globally. I hope you will plan to attend and participate in the op-portunities to celebrate the ministry we do as Lutherans at Our Savior as well as members of the family of God,joined to Christ and adopted as God’s children in the waters of Baptism. Until then I invite you to brush up on thefamily history by reading From Conflict to Communion this summer and join in the study of it this fall. See you on Sun-day! The Action Bible: A Great Tool for Planting Seeds of FaithThis was posted on Facebook by Leah, Matt Wolf’s cousin, whose son Ethan has brain cancer.A share today about a book has made a huge impact in our family. Years ago, The Action Bi-ble made the Word of God come alive for Ethan. The illustrations are beautiful and compel-ling. Who knew what a gift it would become? Ethan asks me to read aloud from it every day, often during times when he is not well and is in pain. Because he has read it so many times,Ethan can close his eyes and rest while the illustrations roll through his mind's eye. I think of-ten about the beautiful grace with which Ethan has handled this terrible trial, and I know it isin no small part because the Word of God is alive within him... Life can be so busy with chil-dren. At times there seem to be more priorities than the day is long. If I didn't know before, Icertainly know now: We will never regret making the time to plant seeds of faith in the chil-dren God entrusted to us. ♡Connie and Matt Wolf have donated The Action Bible (recommended for ages 9-12) to the LCOS Library.Stop by the LCOS library to check out The Action Bible (recommended for ages 9-12).We have several other Children’s Bibles as well as a variety of Bible Stories for children in book and DVD form.Inside a seed, faith and grace will grow abundantly …. Read, listen, share.Come in, come in and take some out and plant a seed in your children’s lives. ~ The Library Ladies

Around the World With Cherub Choir This year, our Cherub Choir has been \"flying\" around the world as we learned a song from a different country each month! Each rehearsal would start with our Cherub Choir trav- el song before we'd fly to our country of the month. We have now visited Benin, where we learned Peace Be With You, Bolivia, where we learned Let's Walk Together, and for Advent and Christmas we were off to England where we learned Away In A Manger. A big hit was Swaziland where we sang We Will Walk With God. We also flew to Nigeria to learn Come O Holy Spirit Come. Recently, we \"landed\" back at home in the United States with This Little Light of Mine. Our last song, Lord, Listen to YourChildren Praying, is actually directly from New Jersey! The composer, Ken Medema, was leading a New Jersey youthgroup and while praying for a young man who was in the hospital came up with this song. The picture shows our trav-el map from this year and the flags of some of the countries we visited. Thank you for traveling around the world withus this season - we hoped that our songs brought you joy and inspiration! GERANIUMS FOR VETERANSThis year the Sunday before Memorial Day is May 29th.
