BE-MAT101 A VOYAGE WITH GENERAL MATHEMATICS TIFFANY FAYE SUICO
PART 1 Selfie while doing math activities
What something new did I learn today in Mathematics? Today, I decided to watch the lecture video about our first lesson which is about Functions, specifically, Representing Real-Life Functions. The video starts with the definition of terms in which I learned that a function is a relation that relates an element of one set to exactly one element of another set using a specific rule. A relation, on the other hand, is a set of ordered pairs (x,y) wherein x is an element of a set called the domain and y is an element of another set called the range. Various ways in which we can determine if a given is a function also came to my knowledge. By the end of the day, I was able to learn all about functions and was also surprised at how it is used a lot in real-life situations.
What did I appreciate for today’s topic/activity? I took Formative Assessment number 2.1.2 on this day in which surprisingly, I got a score of 15/15 on the first try. I really appreciate these formative assessments given because it enables me to practice my problem-solving skills and my knowledge before I answer a Unit Test or a Performance Task. Through this certain formative assessment, I was able to test if I really learned something from the topic of 'Solving Rational Equations.' And I was happy to find out that I did actually learn from the given video materials and the calibration.
What something new did I learn today in Mathematics? On this day, I decided to read the 3rd Unit Lessons on our General Mathematics Course using the provided module. The 3rd unit in our BE-MAT101 is all about inverse functions. I learned that the inverse function of a function f in mathematics is a function that reverses the operation of f. I also learned about the various topics under it such as further understanding one-to-one functions, finding inverse functions, graphing inverse functions, and problem-solving involving inverse functions. By the end of the day, I was able to learn so much about the said topic by just reading and taking notes.
What did I appreciate for today’s topic/activity? Today, I watched the Lessons in Unit 4 of our General Mathematics course which is all about Exponential Equation, Exponential Inequalities, and Exponential Functions. As I watch the said lesson, I came to learn how the three differs and I was introduced to various subtopics such as graphing exponential equations and such. It was a really fun topic to learn, and I could say that it is my favorite unit out of all that we've learned throughout this semester. I really appreciate the fact that this certain topic has a lot of real-life applications. This made the topic more fun and interesting to learn.
What did I appreciate for today’s topic/activity? Logarithms is, I could say, the most challenging topic out of all lessons we've had in General Mathematics. And so, I really appreciate the help of the formative assessments that have given us students. Through these formative assessments, I was able to test if I actually learned from the given learning materials and evaluate on what certain topic do I need to focus on more. Furthermore, by answering the formative assessments, I came to appreciate more the different real-life applications of Logarithms.
PART 2 Selfie or photo with performance tasks
What something new did I learn today in Mathematics? This picture is me, with the first-ever performance task in General Mathematics which is all about the application of functions, specifically piecewise functions, in the T.R.A.I.N. Law System. In this particular PT, I was grouped with three other classmates of mine in which we worked together to come up with the piecewise function model of the T.R.A.I.N. Law System. Furthermore, this activity also requires some opinion of ours about the T.R.A.I.N. Law and if we thought that this Law is fair for everyone or not. What I learned about this Performance Task is that there is more to functions than we know of; Functions can be used in a diverse set of important things, just like how it is being used in Modelling the Tax System of the Country. Furthermore, I was also enabled to learn all about the Tax System of the country I am living in and share my thoughts about it which is important as a Filipino citizen.
What did I appreciate for today’s topic/activity? This is our 2nd activity which is all about the application of Rational Functions. This Performance Task is entitled, 'Through The Lens' and is focused on the application of Rational Functions on projecting what happens to the focusing distance of an object under a camera with a given focal point. To be honest, this activity is the hardest Performance Task that I've encountered in our course because it includes Optics which I find really hard even at a young age. Even so, I appreciate the fact that this activity challenged me to learn further and test my knowledge about rational functions. Furthermore, it also made me realize that there are a lot of things on which our topic is being applied on.
What did I appreciate for today’s topic/activity? The 3rd activity in our course is all about cryptology using inverse functions which has the title of 'Crack The Code!' I had a really fun time answering this certain activity given the effort that our teachers put into making this activity fun and entertaining to do. Because of how visual and fun it is to answer, I was determined to do the best I could to answer the activity correctly. Furthermore, the final segment of the activity which requires us to watch an inspiring video and reflect on afterward is what I appreciated the most because it shows how the course is not only focused on teaching us about mathematics but it also is an outlet of sharing God's words and moral teachings to us students.
What something new did I learn today in Mathematics? The fourth activity is entitled 'Exploring Exponential Functions.' Given its title, it is all about the observation and analysis of various Exponential Functions. Through answering this task, I was able to learn, discover, and explore the characteristics of the other exponential functions that I may encounter in the world of Mathematics in the near future. Through this activity, I was also able to further amplify my knowledge and skills in looking for the domain, range, x & y-intercepts, and the horizontal asymptote of an exponential function.
What did I appreciate for today’s topic/activity? This is our final output for the 1st Semester of our General Mathematics Course. This Performance Task is entitled, 'A Voyage with General Mathematics' which requires us to make a portfolio- like output of all of the things we've done in the course during the whole semester. I appreciated this output because it made me look back to the past months in which I've learned with my classmates and of course, our teacher, Sir Rowell Maglalang. Overall, I really had a fun time during the first semester of our BE-MAT101 because I got to know my classmates further and spend time with them while learning a lot about the world of Mathematics. It is, in fact, a voyage with the ups and downs of learnings but still, by the end of the day, what matters is the time spent with the people around me and the new learnings I've gathered and shall put in use in the near future.
THE END Thank you for venturing with me!
