President’s welcome Welcome all, It is nice this year to be putting on the Regatta at its usual time of year after the Covid-forced September event last year…although it was a great success with super weather and record crowds. This year sees a return to usual, other than you will no longer see the stage in the La Lague layby. The stage events have become less well supported in recent years, and your committee has taken the decision to use the space on the road more effectively. Emphasis as usual will be on participation. This year, we are encouraging friends and colleagues to get together to enter our team events, like raft racing, 5-aside football, ultimate frisbee and SUP racing. If you want to enter a team, you can do so on the day but it makes it easier for us if you contact us beforehand through our Facebook page or by emailing rocquaineregatta@gmail. com. Although the Regatta is perhaps seen as something to keep the children entertained, we’ve always seen it as something for everybody, whatever your fancy – a beer in the beer tent with a dabble at Crown and Anchor or trying out your rowing skills in our Regatta dinghies, rounded off with joining Brian at tug-of-war at the end of a long day. Special thanks again this year to Joules and Jules Le Gallez for letting us use their land for the beer tent – the Regatta would not be the same without it. And a special thanks as always to our team of helpers on the day – the Regatta Next year’s wouldn’t happen without you! Rocquaine Have a great day. Friends of the Rocquaine Regatta The Regatta was first established in 1910 and has been running every year since 1974. The Regatta does have expenses to meet, which traditionally have been financed substantially through corporate sponsorship, and the Regatta remains very grateful to these sponsors. This form of sponsorship is on the decline, so the Regatta has recently launched the Friends of the Regatta. An annual donation of £25 or a life-time membership fee of £250 entitles Friends to attend our very popular Vin d’Honneur held at Fort Grey on the eve of each year’s Regatta, along with an entry in our programme.
