Choosing between different types of classes in SURF Students are encouraged to view/register for classes by accessing from a computer, not a mobile device. On a mobile device, ‘Room’ will appear on a separate tab making it difficult to see the location. ONGROUND Fully onground instruction with designated day/time sessions. In , an onground course will include the days/times/locations. When adding the course, be sure to take note of the campus location (OC=Oceanside, SAN=San Elijo, CLC=Community Learning Center). HYFLEX HyFlex (onground and Zoom). Students should be prepared to participate in the scheduled 12:00 lecture on campus or online via Zoom at the days/times/location specified in the schedule of classes. Check the syllabus for details. COMPLETE SPARTAN PREP Spartan Prep gets students off to a great start on their college career and leads to higher student success. Spartan Prep is a guide for students to complete Spartan Start Orientation and practice creating a first-semester education plan. 1 All students (new and current) should complete Spartan Start Orientation to learn about MiraCosta College’s academic programs, support services, college terminology, and develop planning tools that will help them succeed in college. 2 Students who complete the first semester education plan exercise get practical experience selecting semester coursework that aligns with transfer and/or degree goals. DEVELOP AN EDUCATION PLAN An education plan is an important tool to help students reach their goals efficiently; this saves time and money. The plan outlines a suggested pathway of courses for students based on their major, transfer goals, or other objectives. Education plans allow students to determine how long it will take to complete a program of study and to be sure that all program requirements can be met within a particular period of time. Group B: All other matriculated continuing, new, and returning students To receive and maintain priority registration, new and continuing Group B students must do the following: Complete placement process, orientation, and advisement; Complete an education plan prior to completion of 15 units or a third semester, whichever comes first; Maintain good academic standing with at least a 2.0 GPA and complete at least 50 percent of enrolled units (excludes homeless, foster youth); and Not exceed 90 degree-applicable units. (Students in the bachelor of science in biomanufacturing degree program, homeless, foster youth, and SAS are exempt from the 90 unit limitation.) Group C: C ontinuing, new, and returning students who have not matriculated (including those in Group A and Group B) and students who have previously earned a bachelor’s degree Group D: Probationary students Any student who has been on probation for at least two consecutive semesters, including students on academic probation (GPA-based) or progress probation (based on the percentage of courses completed with an evaluative grade). Group E: Students over 90 units Students who have completed more than 90 degree-applicable units with a grade of A–F, P, or NP. Courses considered basic skills will not be counted toward the completion of units in this category (although they will count toward accumulation of units in Groups B and C). Group F: Concurrently registered high school students Concurrently registered high school students are restricted from registering early and may only register approximately two weeks prior to the start of the term. The number of units you have completed at MiraCosta College determines your registration priority. For Groups B and C, this includes all courses completed, including basic skills and ESL classes. Students who have completed 100.5 units or more in degree-applicable courses will be assigned to Group E. Appointments are assigned randomly within each group and start at 8 a.m. for Groups A–E and 6 a.m. for Group F.
