COLLEGE PROFILED.A.V. PG College Karnal, is known for providing overall development to the students. Establishedin 1974, it has now become one of the premier institutions of Haryana. It was established to cater tothe needs of underprivileged sections of society like rural, semi urban & urban areas. Gradually, ithas carved a niche for itself as one the finest institutions with quality educationThere were nearly 272 students in the beginning with just two faculties Arts and Commerce. But nowthe college has 2700 students (600 girls) on its roll with multi-disciplinary and multi dimensionalfaculties with vocational courses. There are ten under graduate courses such as B.Com (General),B.Com (Hons.) B.Com (Computer Application) and B.Com (Tax Procedure & Practice), B.A.,BCA, BMC, B.Sc. (Comp. Sc.) B.Sc. (Non medical) and BBA. The college has now six Post GraduateCourses like M.A. (English), M.Com, M.A. (Economics), M.Sc (Maths), M.Sc (Geography),PGDCA. The College has been assessed and accredited by NAAC (U.G.C) with B+ Grade with 79%score. SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENTS ˆ More than 204 students are already placed in highly reputed firms like IBM, Birla Sun Life, TCS etc. (infosys) ˆ Students have bagged Ninety top positions in Kurukshetra University Merit List during the last decade. GRADUATE COURSESB.A. (GENERAL) FIRST YEAR NO. OF SEATS-320Eligibilitya) Should have passed 10+2 with English securing at least 35% marks from Haryana Education Board, I.C.S.E./C.B.S.E. or any other State Education Board.b) Failed students will not be granted admission. Students who have compartment in 10+2 will be given onechance for clearing the compartment i.e. they have to clear the compartment before commencement of 2ndSemester, failing which their admission will stand automatically cancelled. Admission to students with compartmentwill be granted (on the basis of merit), provided seats are available.B.A. First Year A student has to take four compulsory subjects & two optional subjects :-(a) Compulsory Subjects :1. English : Semester I and II (80+20)2. Hindi : Semester I and II (80+20)3. Environmental Studies : It is a qualifying paper only. The exam will be taken at the college leveland each student will be required to score minimum 35% marks, both in theory and practical. The marks obtained in thisqualifying paper will not be included in determining the percentage of marks obtained for the award of degree however,these marks will be shown in the detailed marks certificate of the student.4. Computer Education : It is a compulsory paper. Students who fail to clear their paper in B.A.-Ican appear in II or III year. It is a certificate course. Without passing this no degree shall be given after graduation.(b) Elective Subjects :Any two of the following :-1. Sanskrit (80+20) (Semester I & II) 6. Geography (50+20+30) (Semester I & II)2. B.COM. (HONOURS) NO. OF SEATS-50A student pursuing B.Com. (Hons) has to study seven papers in 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th Semester.Note: Regarding choice of optinal papers following rules have to be observed by the candidate:-i) Optional papers are divided into three optional group i.e. Finance & Taxation, Marketing and HumanResource Management.ii) Student opting for B.Com. (Hons) will have to opt for both the papers from the same optional group i.e.Finance & Taxation, Marketing and Human Resource Management. Further, a candidate will have to continue thesame specialization group opted once in 3rd semester in subsequent semester also. Specialization group cannot bechanged.B.COM. GENERAL (1st YEAR) IST SEMESTER NO. OF SEATS - 245A student pursuing B.Com. (General) has to study six papers in 3rd, 4th & 6th semester,Note: A student pursuing B.Com. (General) will have to choose one optional paper in each of the 3rd, 4th, 5th &6th semesters. The name of students remaining absent for 07 consecutive working days in a month will be struck off from the college rolls as per instructions of KUK. (Math) are a professional courses, each and every student is required to submit assignments, projects etc. as per schedule. Students shall refrain from: a) Causing damage to college building, furniture, computers, electric fan fixtures or to any other property. b) Obstructing passage in the verandah, stairs or else where. c) Writing in or outside the classrooms, on Notice Board, walls or furniture.15. A student guilty of misconduct shall be liable not only to expulsion from the College/University but also be debarred from appearing in examination of any University in India.CLASS TESTS1. One class test and two assignments shall be given in each semester.2. It shall be compulsory for every student to appear in these tests & House Examination.3. Absence from Class Test, with or without leave is not acceptable. Absence from Class Test is punishable with a fine of Rs. 10/- per paper.4. Fees and fines must be paid on due date; otherwise a late fee fine of Rs. 5/- per day will be charged upto 15 days. Afterwards Rs.200/- will be charged upto 30 days.

2. Students who are absent must arrange to send their dues to the college office on or before the due date. Absence from the college will not be accepted as an excuse for non-payment of dues.3. All fees and other dues are payable strictly in advance and in full. Part-payments will not be accepted. Absence fine incurred in a month must be paid along with the fee for the following month.4. Absence fine will be Rs.5/- per lecture per day5. Fees and fines once paid cannot be refunded.6. If a student fails to clear his/her dues, his/her name shall be struck off the college rolls. Intercollege Migrationi) Students can migrate from one college to the other only with the consent of the Principals of both the colleges and the permission by the University. It can be granted solely at the discretion of the Principal. Principal can refuse migration to any student without assigning any reason.ii) Student shall not be allowed to migrate from one college to another in the same city.iii) Students who migrate to the college shall have to deposit annual fees and admission fees barring registration fees. He/she shall not be given admission without the college leaving certificates from the previous college.2. Inter-University Migration:Students can migrate from other University to Kurukshetra University but shall have to submit following documents.a) College Leaving Certificates duly signed by the Principal of the previous college.b) Migration Certificate duly signed by the Registrar of the University from where migrating.c) Detailed Marks Certificates of the last examination passed andd) The requisite Migration fee.Special Note: If admission of any student is declared invalid by the University on account of any reason, thestudent or his/her parents will solely be responsible for the consequence. College shall not be responsible in anyconditions.WITHDRAWAL OF NAME FROM COLLEGE ROLLS Any student who wants to leave the college should submit an application which should be duly singed byhim and his parents. Before leaving the college he has to deposit all dues, library books, N.C.C. uniform/sportsequipments etc.COLLEGE IDENTITY CARD AND LIBRARY CARD All the students, in the beginning of the academic session, should get their Identity cards and library cards fromthe College library. In case ofloss/damage/theft, the New Identity Card will be re-issued to a student only on a payment of Rs. 200/- with thepermission of principal.RULES REGARDING BUS PASSES (upto 60 kms only) / RAILWAY PASSESi) Bus pass will be issued from Karnal to that place of a student which is filled in the admission form as his place of residence.ii) A student himself shall be responsible for any fraud like change in photo etc.iii) Students shall contact College Office regarding issue of Bus Passes or their renewal.iv) For the passes a copy of Matriculation Certificate and Ration Card is requiredv) For Girls sdtudents Bus passes are free.vi) Bus passes are issued only for the duration of studies/examinations and not for the period of summer vacations. Pass holders should deposit their passes in college office as soon as the academic session is over.vii) Pass-holders should keep their bus-passes carefully. In case bus pass is lost it shall be re-issued with the special permission of the Principal only if a copy of F.I.R. lodged with Police and Rs. 50/- for duplicate bus-pass fee and the requisite bus fare is deposited by the student in college office.RULES FOR CYCLE/SCOOTER STANDi) Only those students who deposit cycle/scooter stand fee shall be allowed to park their vehicles at the proper places in the college campus.ii) Students who have paid cycle/scooter fee should get their Identity Cards attested by the Fee Clerk otherwise

they shall not be allowed to park their vehicles in cycles/scooter stand.iii) Students should obtain a token from the peon before parking their vehicles in the cycle/scooter stand. They shall be allowed to take their vehicle only when they return the token to the cycle/scooter stand peon.iv) Student are advised in their own interest to get their vehicle insured.v) Students should properly lock their vehicles. College shall not be responsible for the unlocked or improperly locked vehicles.vi) Students should park their vehicles in the stand only. A student shall be punished if his/her vehicle is placed anywhere else.LIBRARY AND READING ROOMS College has a fully computerised library containing nearly 30,000 books. The number is increasing day by day. Almost all the national dailies (Hindi and English) and prominent weeklies, fort- nightlies, monthly magazines are being subscribed by the library. It is essential to keep silence in the library so that readers are not disturbed. It is strictly prohibited to mark or tear pages from library books. Students found doing so shall be severely punished.a) A student is entitled to keep the books for 15 days. He/She should either return the book or get it reissued before that duration ends. Without library card books will not be issued.b) In case of delay he/she shall be fined Rs. 2 per book per day.c) Students shall be solely responsible for the safety of Library Material. Student, on noting any damage at the time of issue, should bring to the notice of the librarian.d) The concerned student should pay compensation if any damage is made to the book. He/she is required to pay the price and penalty if the book is lost.e) Student should bring to the notice of the librarian immediately if his/her library card is lost. Any misuse of the card will be his/her responsibility.f) Newspapers, Magazines and Reference Books can be read only in the library.g) Indiscipline or making noise in the library is a punishable offence.LEAVE RULESa) Students who want leave for a day or two shall submit application duly signed by the concerned Professors.b) For three or more day's leave, students shall submit their application before the Principal.c) Leave application has to be presented before taking leave. However, if the leave has been claimed on medical ground, the application may be submitted on the day of rejoining the college after recovery from the illness.d) In case of medical leave, medical certificate should be attached.e) Any leave application received by post or submitted by any other student shall not be considered.f) Generally, leave is not granted for Class Tests. Leave regarding House Examination & Class Test may be given by the Principal only if competent medical authority certifies the leave application.g) If any student remains absent from the class for 7 days continuously, his/her name may be struck off without any intimation.
