ACTS THE BOOK OF THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES Acts of the Apostles is an important historical book of the beginnings of the Christian church and how it was formed and of how the gospel was spread. It tells us of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and how that enabled the gospel to be spread to the Gentile world. Acts begins with the account of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the persecution of the Christians, Saul’s conversion, and of the struggles involved for the Jewish Christians to accept the Gentiles into the faith as equals. The life of Paul is central in Acts, but the life of the other Apostles is also recorded here as well. Acts ends with the arrest of Paul and his imprisonment in Rome. The writing of Acts is credited to Dr Luke, a Gentile and Greek scholar, around the year A.D. 62. Luke is also credited for writing the gospel of Luke. Originally the two books of Luke and Acts were said to be one book, but they were separated in order to keep the gospels together. Acts depicts broad Jewish rejection of the gospel and their subsequent exclusion as the people of God. Acts also tells of the inclusion of the Gentiles into the faith and of their being incorporated into the people of God.
