Amidst these challenging time of online phase of teaching-learning, this e-magazine marks our growth, unfolds our imagination and presents the unleashed potential of our students through various activities conducted during this academic session. As you peruse through the pages of this issue you will notice that we have not only showcased the students’ substantial talents, skills and abilities but also provided them with a platform to nurture and reinvigorate them to participate and compete with confidence and enjoy normal school life during these unforeseen circumstances. EASTER ASSEMBLY Junior School teachers of Somerville School, Noida organised an Easter Assembly on 5thApril 2021. Information related to Easter legends like the Easter bunny, Easter eggs etc. was shared with the audience. The teachers sang a hymn to give praise to the Lord. Principal, Mrs. M.N. Arul Raj greeted the students and parents on the occasion of Easter and welcomed everyone to the beginning of the new session.
PEACE AND HOPE ASSEMBLY asASSEMBLY The students of Junior school organised a ‘Peace and Hope Assembly’ on 9th June, 2021 upon their return to online school after the summer break. The assembly started by Principal Ma’am’s welcome address to the students, parents and staff alike followed by the Lord’s prayer. Kairavi of Class II and Avyay of Class V inspired everyone with their poetry on how to be strong during the pandemic and follow all the rules of social distancing . Class I students shared messages of peace and hope with one and all. The students sang songs of peace invoking the divine being to rid the world of all disease, pain and suffering. The students showed their well choreographed moves to share the message of kindness and harmony with the attendees. FRIENDSHIP DAY ASSEMBLY The students of Class IV organised a Friendship Day Assembly on the occasion of International Friendship Day on 2nd August 2021. The students emphasized the importance of friendship in our lives and threw light on the qualities that make a true friend. They also showcased some unusual friendships between humans and animals, children and their grandparents etc. through a picture collage. The students of Class IV informed everyone about the benefits of staying connected with their friends through the online medium and practising social distancing during the pandemic.

INDEPENDENCE DAY ASSEMBLY The students of Class IV participated wholeheartedly in the Independence Day Assembly held on 13th Aug 2021. They highlighted the need for creating awareness about various social and civic issues. They emphasized the need to keep our surroundings clean, saving electricity, planting trees and other such important issues that will improve our standard of living. They shed light on how to work towards making the future of India even better by creating awareness about various pressing issues that still loom large around us and stop our motherland from achieving our true greatness.

TEACHERS' DAY ASSEMBLY Students of Junior School paid homage to Dr. S Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary on 5th September. This day is also celebrated as Teachers' Day all over India. A documentary on the life of Dr. Radhakrishnan was shared with the students followed by a song dedicated to teachers.

Show and Tell The students of Class IV participated in a ‘Show and Tell’’ event. The topic for this event was ‘The states and union territories of India’. The students had to speak a few lines about the state of their choice and its culture, tradition, costume, food etc. Students dressed up in the costumes of various states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir etc. and showcased the delicious cuisines and the beautiful art and craft of these states. The students participated in this event with great enthusiasm. Principal Mrs. M.N. Arul Raj attended this event and appreciated the efforts of the students and teachers.
INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC MILE SUR MERA TUMHARA Plato: ‘Music and rhythm find their way into the secret places of the soul.’ The students of Classes IV and V of Somerville School, Noida under the able mentorship of their instrumental music teacher Mr. Shubhendu Das enthralled the audience with an astounding instrumental performance on 28th August. The students who were divided into various groups played patriotic songs on multiple musical instruments like the tabla, keyboard, bongo, tambourine etc. Principal Mrs. M.N ArulRaj welcomed the parents to this extraordinary performance by the young maestros of the school. The musical geniuses mesmerized everyone with their unique talents. It was an afternoon filled with rhythm and melody that was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone.

DIWALI ACTIVITY ‘Light is the harbinger of joy, prosperity and eternal bliss of the soul.’ Students of Class IV made beautiful diya holders with bangles and cards to mark the ‘Festival of Lights’ on 2nd November, 2021. Students were made aware about the relevance of Eco- friendly Diwali celebrations. Students were briefed on ill- effects of burning crackers and were urged to celebrate the festival with candles, sweets and non-polluting green crackers.

INTER HOUSE DANCE PRESENTATION JHOOMO NACHO GAO Dance is a form of art that stimulates both mind and body. Dancing is like dreaming with your feet. Dance performances bring a huge excitement in the audience and it’s an art form that is almost everyone’s favourite. The students of Class IV participated in an Inter House Dance presentation ‘JHOOMO NACHO GAO’ on 28th November,2021 to showcase their talent. The teachers and students put in a lot of hard work. They wanted to ensure that every move is a perfect move and every dance performance brings smiles on the faces of the audience. The varied performances by the students, be it folk dance, hip-hop or fusion dance mesmerized the audience to the core.

CHRISTMAS ACTIVITY LITTLE CHEFS AT WORK To keep up with the spirit of Christmas, the students of Class IV from the Primary Wing of Somerville School, Noida held two activities – ‘Fireless Cooking’ and ‘Talent Hunt’ on 20th December 2021. “Cooking is one of the greatest gifts you can give to those you love”. Christmas is all about sharing our lives with others. The students of Class IV shared their love with their families by preparing delicious and nutritional breakfast for them. The idea behind this activity was to make the students aware that even without fire they can cook a healthy meal for their loved ones. They prepared dishes like ‘Nacho Twist’ and ‘Fruit Bonanza’ which were very easy to prepare and the ingredients used were also accessible in their homes. They served their dishes in a creative, stylish and tasteful way, along with a Christmas card, to their families. The students also had a ‘Talent Hunt’ activity. Though it was not a competition but the students were eager and enthusiastic to showcase their talents. Each participant had one minute to perform. All the participants exhibited their various talents and skills which included dancing, singing, playing the musical instruments, performing different yoga asanas, mono act, art work, speech and many more activities. It was an opportunity for the introvert students to come out of their shells and be more confident. Each child enjoyed the spotlight they got for the day.

CAROL SINGING In keeping up with the spirit of the yuletide season the students of Junior School presented some mesmerizing carols on 20th December 2021. The festive season is just round the corner and to celebrate the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ the students sang carols like ‘We Three Kings’,‘Silent Night’ etc. The soulful renditions by the students warmed the hearts of everyone who heard them sing.
REPUBLIC DAY ASSEMBLY With feelings of patriotism and pride the students of Class IV participated in the Republic Day Assembly on 25th January 2022. SCIENCE – JUST A MINUTE Just a Minute - A fun filled science activity was conducted in January 2022, with the objective of \"learning by doing\". The inquisitive minds of students of Class IV delved into the world of science, logic and reasoning. They conducted experiments, observed and presented their inferences with confidence. This activity helped them to build up excellent communication skills, presentation skills and shaped the curious young minds. The students got a great sense of achievement and the teachers were proud of their budding scientists. ( The entire class participated wholeheartedly )

CHARACTERS COME ALIVE The activity ‘Characters Come Alive’ was held in February 2022 in which many kids participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. The students had to dress up as their favourite character from the books they have read or they could depict any real-life character that they admire. They were all colourfully dressed and presented a variety of characters. This activity allowed students to express their love for reading by dressing up as characters and expressing themselves, thereby boosting their confidence and creativity. Role play develops speaking and listening skills, as well as gives children the opportunity to reflect on and develop their knowledge of a topic. Such activities not only fuel the imagination of youngsters but develop their social skills too.
