The Right To Breathe 57 Final Designs For this product proposal, we have decided on two final design outcomes. The first involves a sheet of metal cut out into the shape of the text that will be displayed, this will be layed over the top of the plant wall so that the plants are able to grow around the message. The other design is to use non-toxic food colouring in the plants when they are first planted so that when they grow they will take the colour they have been dyed. The dyed plants will form the shape of the text so it will stand out against the background plants. Both these designs are sustainable and work to campaign against air pollution whilst also taking in emissions to help reduce air pollution. These would be very good investments by councils, if they are installed in city centres, they can reduce the fumes produced by traffic and be used to educate the public on how they can reduce their output.

The Right To Breathe 61 User- Testing

Due to circumstances we were unable to conduct 62 our own user testing for our product, so we looked into similar things that had already been made to see how our product would cope. Companies such as Coca-Cola and o2 have both utilised ‘living billboards’, they have been used for aesthetics reasons, to catch the attention of the public but they also take in emissions from the air. By installing these plants into billboards is very effective because they are often placed on the sides of roads, or busy town centres. This is where traffic is at its highest, so it can spread the message to drivers but also absorb a lot of emissions which come from the mass of cars. Our product will be installed in city centres. City centres often have a lot of traffic from cars and buses and it has been proven that cities have higher air pollution than the countryside. By putting our product here, we hope to reduce air pollution in the cities, and also this will catch the attention of the public and hopefully encourage them to reduce their emissions. User-testing

The Right To Breathe 65

66 We produced a presentation to showcase our product, identifying its key features and how it would be produced. We explain who the product is aimed towards and how it solves the RSA brief. Presentation

The Right To Breathe 67 Eval- uation Overall, I think we have interpreted the brief well and decided on a solid product which could make a huge difference to air pollution in city centres. Air pollution is a growing issue in the UK and I believe that our product will assist in solving the issue, but the main purpose is getting the issue across to the public and educating them on the problem and informing them of what they can do to help. We have worked well as a group, by dividing up tasks to cater to our own strengths. We have all contributed to the final idea, through research, design, and campaigning of the product. We think that this product would be very effective and if we were able to conduct user testing, it would have been successful.
