Education and Research One of the priorities of our university's education and research activities is to develop innovative solutions to problems related to sustainability, as well as to lead scientific research that will make an impact While the total number of courses offered to our students in the scope of our undergraduate programs at our university is 2794, 134 of them consist of courses aimed at increasing our students' perceptions of the concept of sustainability and creating scientific infrastructure. The total number of courses opened in the scope of our graduate programs is 1932, however 72 of them consist of sustainability-focused courses. As to summarise, 214 out of 4726 courses offered in undergraduate and graduate programs at our university those are composed of courses focusing on sustainability (Figure 9.1). Sustainability-oriented undergraduate and graduate courses Last year, a total of 453 (351 Master's, 102 Ph.D.) theses were completed in the scope of graduate thesis studies at our university. Among them, 48 are postgraduate theses that study issues in the field of sustainability and provide solutions to related issues in this direction (Figure 9.2). İstanbul, JANUARY 2021 105

YILDIZ TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY SUSTAINABLE CAMPUS REPORT 2020 Research activities and knowledge-technology transfer play an important role in solving global problems in sustainable development. For this reason, our faculty members cooperate in interdisciplinary research projects in order to take a holistic approach to the concept of sustainability in many fields ranging from engineering to architecture, economics-administrative sciences, and life sciences. While the total research budget of our university last year was 52.373.720 TL , 3.327.361 TL of this number belonged to the sustainability-focused research budget (Figure 9.4). The ratio of research budget on sustainability Last year, the total number of articles published by our university in international SSCI indexed journals was 870, of which 116 were composed of sustainability-focused publications in the international SSCI index (Figure 9.5). A protocol for the establishment of the \"Mobility Systems Research Center-Mobility LAB\" was signed in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and our University. At the research center, scientific studies will be conducted on nature-friendly and alternative energy-oriented transportation systems that differentiate people's mobility behaviors at urban and national levels. In cooperation with our university and İSTAÇ (Istanbul Environmental Management Industry and Trade Inc.), organized the fifth Eurasian Waste Management Symposium, which gave a comprehensive overview of effective waste management strategies in Asia and Europe. The relevant symposium covered research in all areas of waste management, such as legislation on hazardous, medical, and other waste types, transportation, treatment, recycling, and reuse (Figures 9.8 and 9.9). The project “UK-Turkey capacity building for wastewater treatment integrated with renewable energy and safer reuse for sustainable communities”, which will be carried out in partnership with our university and De Montfort University, by the leadership of our university faculty member Prof. Dr. Eyüp Debik and his team, has been awarded by the Newton Fund (Figure 9.10). Our student club that focuses on the environment and sustainable development is actively operating in our university. We regularly collect waste food, plastic, and paper within the framework of the “Yildiz Recycling” project initiated in cooperation with the Animal Rights, Social Responsibility, Economy and Environment Clubs. Waste meals suitable for the health of the animals are collected and given to dogs in Davutpaşa Campus, however, the collected waste plastic bottles and paper waste are taken from our University by Esenler Municipality waste vehicle every day for recycling (Figure 9.11). They also got the \"Efficiency Award\" for their vehicles competing in the electromobile category, for realizing the least energy consumption in their racing dates (Figure 9.12). Figure 9.12. Our team consisting of Onur Kiren, Alperen Kılıç and Oğuzhan Kıt won the National Ship and Yacht Design 1st prize organized under the theme of \"Electric Ferry Design\" with their designs called \"Orkoz\". our team consisting of Sare Nur Nakkaya, Onurcan Baytok and Alihan Uzun placed second with their designs named \"Akana\" (Figure 9.14). The Environmental Club of our University has organized a conference with the theme of \"Green Sector\" every year, based on the environmentalist approach of the industry's giants, in March. Such activities and organizations of student clubs have played an important role in raising awareness of campus sustainability (Figure 9.15). Figure 9.15. Our university and Bosch have signed an important cooperation in order to train the people that will be needed in the field of electric cars. With the 'Bosch Electric Mobility Education Program', our students will improve practical knowledge in areas such as hybrid vehicle technology and systems, electric vehicle calibration, electric motors, and compact driving module (eaxle), electric drivers and power electronics and functional safety in electric vehicles, as well as Bosch Turkey will have the opportunity to benefit from the expertise of calibration Team (Figure 9:16).
