The 12 Eggs of Easter A children’s book based on the Bible and “The Twelve Days of Christmas” song Written by Vicki Boileau & Illustrated by Daniel Higgins Each egg is filled with a symbol that reminds us of our Savior, the week that led to Jesus’ death and resurrection, and the Great Commission given before He ascended into heaven. The odd-numbered pages with the illustrations can be sung to the tune of “The Twelve Days of Christmas.” The even-numbered pages facing the illustrations provide additional, simplified information about Jesus. 2

3

1st Egg — Palm Branch (John 12:12-15) The Sunday before Jesus died on the cross, He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. The people waved their palm branches and shouted their praises, “Hosanna,” blessed is the King of Israel! 4

5

2nd Egg — Servant’s Towel (John 13:1, 4-5, 12-17) On Thursday, the day before He died on the cross, Jesus washed and dried His disciples’ feet. Jesus taught them that just as He served them in love, they should also love and serve one another. 6

7

3rd Egg — Praying Hands (Mark 14:32-42) After the Passover meal, Jesus went to Gethsemane to pray to His Father in heaven. 8

9

4th Egg — Silver Coin (Matthew 26:14-16, 47-49) One of Jesus’ disciples, Judas, betrayed Jesus for 30 silver coins. Judas led the enemies to Gethsemane and kissed Jesus, so they would know whom to take. 10

11

5th Egg — Nail (Mark 15:16-20) Jesus suffered for our sins. He was mocked with a purple robe and a crown of thorns, whipped and nailed to the cross. 12

13

6th Egg — Heart (Luke 23:34) Jesus loved His enemies. He asked His Father in heaven to forgive them. 14

15

7th Egg — Wooden Cross (Mark 15:37,39) On that Good Friday, Jesus died for the sins of all people. 16

17

8th Egg — Linen Cloth (Matthew 27:57-60) Joseph, of Arimathea, was given permission to take Jesus’ body. Joseph wrapped the body in a clean linen cloth and placed it in his own new tomb. 18

19

9th Egg — Stone (Mark 16:1-4) Early Sunday morning, the women took spices and went to the tomb. Even though they had worried about moving the very large stone, they discovered it had already been rolled away. 20

21

10th Egg — Angel (Matthew 28:5-7) The angel told the women, “Do not to be afraid, Jesus is not here. He has risen!” 22

23

11th Egg — Cloud (Acts 1:3 & Luke 24:50-51) For 40 days, Jesus appeared many times and spoke about the kingdom of God. Jesus led His disciples and some other believers out of the city. While He was blessing them, they saw Him ascend up to heaven until a cloud hid Him. 24

25

12th Egg — Bible (Matthew 28:16-20) Before Jesus ascended into heaven, He told His followers to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything He commanded. Jesus promised to be with them always! 26
