Help your students read! This book practises words with more than one consonant next to each other, plus long vowel sounds (like ‘bright’ or ‘tree’). Read the back cover blurb to your students. • Ask: Do you think dogs make good pets? Why or why not? During reading • If your students get stuck on a word, remind them to sound it out and then blend the sounds to read the word: s-t-r-ee-t, street. • If they are still stuck, show them how to read the word. • Enjoy looking at the pictures together. Pause to talk about the story. After reading • Ask: How is Snoop more like a cat than a dog? • Ask: When does Snoop remember he is a dog? Can you spot the guinea pig on 6 pages? 3

Snoop is my perfect pet dog. He has soft brown fur. When he sees me, his tail starts to wag. 4

But I’m afraid there is one problem. Snoop thinks he is a cat. 5

When the rest of the dogs are asleep, Snoop prowls the streets. 6

When the rest of the dogs are having fun, Snoop naps in the bright sunlight. 7

Snoop can go up a tree, right to the top! 8

But when he gets stuck, it can be hard to explain what he is doing up there. 9

Snoop purrs like a cat. He never growls or barks like a dog. purr, purr 10

I never see him slurp his drink or drool. Snoop grooms his fur and keeps himself spotless and neat. 11

One thing is clear. 12

When it comes to dinner, Snoop forgets he is a cat. Then he remembers he is a dog. 13

I am not complaining. I love my pet dog. 14
