It’s December. Kyong looks outside. Icicles hang at the window. Snow lies thickly on their balcony and on houses below. 4

“I love snow!” says Kyong. “It’s magical,” agrees Daddy. “So pure and white!” 5

“It’s very chilly!” says Mommy. “It would be nice to have some lovely hot food for lunch.” 6

Daddy decides to make soup and fruit crumble. 7

Daddy leaves for the store. Mommy and Kyong decide to stay at home. 8

They get boots, snuggly coats, and gloves. Then they head out to the balcony. 9

Mommy moulds some snow in the middle of the balcony. “Let’s make a group of snowmen as a surprise for Daddy,” she says. 10

Kyong shakes his head. “Let’s make some other snow animals.” 11

Kyong makes an elephant on the table and a mouse in the window box. 12

“They are a bit too white,” says Kyong. “Snow is white!” says Mommy. “But it’s not magical,” says Kyong. 13

They decide to give the animals a makeover. Mommy gathers bottles of paint, a bowl of water, and a couple of brushes. 14

Mommy drizzles paint of every shade of the rainbow onto a plate. Then they decorate the snow. 15

Now they have a spotty yellow mouse, a stripy, purple elephant, and rainbow snowmen. 16

Kyong giggles. “Rainbow snow is really magical!” 17

Daddy comes home with fruit and vegetables. Kyong shows him the mouse, elephant, and snowmen. 18

Daddy chuckles. “Where’s my pure white snow?” he asks. 19

At lunchtime, the soup is steamy and comforting. Next is apple crumble with ice cream. “Please may I have ice cream on its own?” asks Kyong. 20

“Here you are,” says Daddy. “Pure white. Like snow.” 21

Kyong gets a little jar. “What’s that?” asks Daddy. Wait and see! 22

Kyong sprinkles a rainbow into the bowl. “Now it’s magical ice cream!” he exclaims. “Like our snow!” 23
