It’s the day of the local street party. Lots of people are heading back from town. “Will we have time to get ready?” asks Willow. “Yes, plenty!” says Dad. 4
But when the driver turns the key, the engine won’t start. 5
Some of the passengers begin to worry. Kyra has to get her cream into the cold. Joseph wants to get back to ice his cake. 6
Lily has plans to serve a giant jelly. Rapha wants to display his fruit. 7
“Don’t worry! I’ll give you all a ride in my trailer,” says Farmer Bailey. They clamber up and sit shoulder to shoulder. Thank you! 8
But it’s a bumpy ride. Go steady, Farmer Bailey! 9
Kyra’s cream bounces around. “It was to tip over my cherries but now it will be all whipped up!” she says. 10
“I like whipped cream,” says Willow. 11
The tractor twists, Joseph stumbles, and the cake crumbles. 12
“Don’t worry. Little pieces of cake are just as lovely as big pieces!” says Willow. 13
The tractor hits a boulder and the jelly tips out of its mould. Oh no! 14
“The jiggled jelly still looks shiny and tasty to me,” says Willow. 15
Suddenly, the tractor swerves to miss some geese. Rapha’s fruit tumbles. “It will be too bruised to display!” says Rapha. 16
“There aren’t many bruises,” says Willow. “Maybe you could cut them out.” 17
Finally, everybody scrambles down. They are all unhappy. 18
“Don’t worry! I have a plan,” says Willow. “Come to my house.” 19
“We need a gigantic bowl. Then we put in crumbled cake, juicy fruit, jiggled jelly, and whipped cream,” says Willow. 20
Problem solved! They make a lovely trifle. 21
The trifle is a total triumph! Kyra’s Lily’s whipped jelly cream Rapha’s sliced fruit Joseph’s cake 22
Saving the day has made Willow very hungry! So nice! 23
