2017 Mini Course GuideFull & Part-Time Intensive BlocksConsisting of 16-20 hours face to face learning per Intensive courses provide an excellent way to gain aweek. Classes are scheduled during the day as well qualification with minimalas evenings. We understand you may have personal class time. You attend class for a specified block periodcommitments; therefore some of our courses are offered and are then required to complete assignments/projectspart-time, giving you the option to study full or part-time in your own time using flexible study methods.with as little as two units at a time. Apprenticeship or TraineeshipFlexible Delivery and Online Learning Apprentices/Trainees need to be employed in a relevantFlexible and online learning is a great option for students field and complete work based assessments whileunable to attend face to face classes. Vocational Education & Training in 2017 Mini Course GuideSchools (VETiS) 9VETiS courses are designed for secondary schoolstudents who wish to start working or studyingin a particular field. Students can completepart or full vocational qualifications inaddition to their Western AustralianCertificate of Education (WACE).Apprenticeships and TraineeshipsApprenticeships and traineeships combinestudy at TAFE with workplace training.You must be employed as an apprentice or atrainee before enrolling in an apprenticeships ortraineeship program.Certificates I & IIThese are entry level qualifications giving youbasic employability skills and as a pathway tofurther learning. Typically taking up to 0.5-1 yearto complete, they can be an excellent re-entrypoint for those wishing to return to studyor work.Certificate IIITaking 1-2 years to complete, however,when your study is combined with anemployment program such as anapprenticeship, it may take longer. Uponcompletion, you may find skilled work and as apathway for further learning.Certificate IVA Certificate IV is the minimum requirementfor consideration of entry into university andtypically takes 0.5-2 years to complete. Thislevel of qualification prepares you with cognitiveskills in a specialised field of work and learningwith limited responsibility for others, such as asupervisory role.Diploma & Advanced DiplomaA Diploma typically takes 1-2 years to complete,while an Advanced Diploma takes 1.5-2 years tocomplete. ENGINEERINGAND MININGEngineering is the branch of science and technology connected with the design,building and use of engines, machines and structures. Study pathways in mining can lead you into a career workingas an operator or manager on sites such as quarries, underground or open cutmetalliferous mines in a range of specialised fields.Due to our campus locations, mining training is a key area of specialisation for ourTAFE. We aim to ensure our training programs are flexible to suit the needs of industryand we are one of the only training providers in Australia to deliver an AdvancedDiploma of Metalliferous Mining. This qualification reflects the role of open cut orunderground Metalliferous Mine Managers who perform tasks that are strategic,broad and complex.
