“Local Eats. Expensive Treats.”
DELICIOUS DONUTS Nobody can resist a sweet treat for a mid morning snack, and neither could we. Visiting a local donut shop with a very fitting name, Donut Crazy, and that we were after sinking our teeth into a rich cavity inducing bite of the perfect balance of frosting and donut goodness!
THE BEST WAY TO WAKE UP Dom’s Coffee has been the 5 star coffee we never knew we needed in the morning. A pleasant surprise from such a small coffee shop, it takes the cake (pun intended) when being compared to a similarly priced coffee at a local Starbucks. While Dom’s is a bit more of a trek, sometimes it is worth the drive for the little extra happiness it brings in the morning with it’s cute vibes it gives off and the wide variety of accompaniments for their coffee. Restaurant: Dom’s Coffee.
LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING With such an odd name and small location, you wouldn’t think much of a restaurant called “The Sloppy Waffle”. But that’s where you would be wrong, this quirky restaurant with a diner vibe will check off all the boxes if you like any kind of breakfast. You name it they’ve got it. This classic breakfast plate and their take on chicken and waffles hits all the right notes. Restaurant: The Sloppy waffle.
EXCELLENT ESPRESSO It’s hard to think that a baking company would have some of the best coffee you’ve ever tasted. However, it was a pleasant surprise to me that Hartford Baking Co’s mocha coffee tastes as good as it looks. Perfect for a quiet morning or an early conference. Restaurant: Hartford Baking Co.
PLACES THAT KEPT US COMING BACK While scavenging through Connecticut for food that we could recommend to everyone. We have found a local restaurant that we couldn’t help but go back to. Treva is an Italian American restaurant that has some of the best pasta and cheese we have ever tried. Here we ordered Taglioni al Nero (squid ink pasta with calamari and garlic) and Sheep’s milk ricotta with pistachios, honey, and arugula. We have been here twice since, which is a rarity considering how much we love to try new food. Restaurant: Treva.
HAPPY WITH HOMEMADE Fancy steakhouses and four figure checks are always fun, however, sometimes there is nothing better than eating a perfectly seasoned filet with potatoes and asparagus while still in your pajamas. Other making food at home doesn’t require any cooking at all with this gorgeous charcuterie made for a lovely holiday appetizer. Restaurant: Homemade.
HEALTHY START Everyday has to start somehow right? So why not make it healthy and delicious. The only thing we would change here is the pita bread, the pita bread should be swapped out with something a little lighter and crunchier, like a sourdough. But other than that this breakfast is light and refreshing while at the same time being hearty because of the Brie and honey. Restaurant: Algonquin.
AMAZING APPS Our number 1 favorite appetizer isn’t something covered in cheese and bacon, instead it’s the fancier version, with burrata and prosciutto to go with our bread. This is the best burrata we have ever tasted with the perfect seasoning and rich extra virgin olive oil. This surely should be on your list if you are in the New Haven Region. Restaurant: Zinc.
