Hello Everyone!!Before introducing Movement “PROTASI”, l would like to say something about me.My name is Marina Pedi and l am 25 years old. I come from Italy and l attend the second year atUniversity of Trieste. This in my first work experience abroad. It lasts 6 week, from January to February 2018.I decided to take part in this experience to meet new people, their culture and their traditions. Infact, l admit l love being part of a group and mostly of a multicultural one.Second, let me present the Movement “PROTASI”, Patras and the most beautiful places of Greece(I suggest you to go there if you have never gone before) and the traditional food that you have totaste.MOVEMENT PROTASI1.WHAT IS IT?PROTASI - Movement for another lifestyle – is a non governmental organization occupyingvolunteers in the prevention of Addictive Substances and behaviours, suggesting a quality life in theCity of Patras and the area. The main purpose of Movement “PROTASI” is to PREVENT people from taking drugs, alcohol, tobacco and generally train them to protect their physical and mental health asserting a betterquality for life for them and their community.“PROTASI” has a long history. It exists since 1988 and in all these years it has implemented a lotof projects attended to children, parents, teachers, citizens, etc. This year “PROTASI” celebrates 30 years of activity!!! All children and parents of the Movement“PROTASI” have been invited to celebrate this important milestone. During this event, I was calledon stage and they introduced me to everyone.

Movement “PROTASI” is a very great movement. There are 120 volunteers; they belong to specificgroup according to their interests and priorities. Duringthese 25 years, hundreds of children and young people have received the services of “PROTASI” inprevention, promotion, of personal and social skills, in broadening their horizons throughtransnational exchanges and many other activities. With practical ways, modern pedagogicalapproaches, promotion and acquisition of personal and social skills, counselling and psycho-socialsupport, the children raise awareness and realize issues that have to do with:  Responsible and active citizenship  Racism, xenophobia, abuse, bullying, hate speech practices  Tolerance and acceptance of diversity  Intercultural understanding  Solidarity  Democracy  Protection of the human and natural environmentSimultaneously, the project encourages the children to take initiatives which choose themselves andhighlight these issues, acting as multipliers themselves to other children in the city but also inEurope through the network of INEPS PROTASI cooperates for many years.3. A NEW PROJECT: “PRO-NIA” in the frame of the C.C.O.The PRO-NIA is a new project and it includes the following activities: 1. In this picture l am with the youth workers and the coordinator of the PRO-NIA project.I have participated to the activities of PRO-NIA project. The groups are divided by age andworkshops are structured to meet the needs of each group. The teenagers meet each other on Monday and this is the group of the grown-ups of the Movement PROTASI. The purpose of the activities is to build a dialogue and the interaction between them, sharing and respecting their different points of view while learning how this opportunity would be useful in future. During these meetings they also play and have fun together. There are 2 groups of kids between 4 and 6 years old who meet on Tuesday. They play together, draw and listen to the stories that the youth workers tell them. During these days in Patras the Carnival is celebrated, so the children have already made carnival masks.

There are 2 groups of children between 6 and 10 years old who meet on Wednesdy. Activities are both similar and different according to the various groups. They are similar in the purpose of the activity and different in the approch to communicate the information. The children between 10 and 12 years old meet on Thursday. There are 2 groups also which have been formed according to the needs and special needs of kids.During the meetings, the groups have a snack and a break during which they can play as they want, for example with cards, board games and with a ball.4. 10. “PROTASI” and AIESECI have known the Movement “PROTASI” thanks to AIESEC. I heard about this opportunity on thewebsite of my University of Trieste. I thought that it would be useful for my future career and ldecided to apply for the project. One of the reason why I choose this program is the chance to make what I studied during mycourses finally real.Another motivation that convinced me was the fact that it would be in contact with differentstudents who come from different countries. It means not only share with them various cultural, political, social views but also it would be an extreme benefit for me to have a new sight of theother economic systems. Moreover, it would be a great experience in order to better my English level.11. WHY ENTER IN “PROTASI”?It is a great experience for both children and adults to take part in Movement “PROTASI”.If you are a young person you could become a volunteer and you could help as a youth leaderaccording to your interests and practise. Every day the Movement organizes meetings; some daysfor children, other days for teenagers. It could be a great experience because you could teach something to them, learn from them and atthe same time you will receive great satisfaction. If you are a parent, l suggest to send your child to “PROTASI”. She/He will certainly have fun,she/he meet new children and she/he will grow up in a healthy environment. During these meetingschildren play together and they do a lot of activities to learn how important is to respect each other, help each other and live well all together.Furthermore, if you have some problem of communication with your child, “PROTASI” could helpyou to overcome this difficulty.I participated in these meetings organized by “PROTASI” and l saw how much children have funand how the children grow up in a cheerful and carefree environment.

TYPICAL GREEK FOODDuring my stay in Patras, I ate a lot of typical Greek food. I appreciated the food taste, verysurprisingly for an Italian person. Souvlaki is a popular Greek fast food consisting of small pieces of meat and sometimes vegetables grilled on a skewer. It is usually served with grilled bread, or in a pita wrap with garnishes and sauces, and often with french fries. The meat usually used in Greece is pork, although chicken, beef, and lamb may also be used. Pita is another popular Greek food. Pita, also known as Arabic bread, Lebanese bread, or Syrian bread is a soft, slightly leavened flatbread baked from wheat flour. In Greece, pita is a component of pita-souvlaki. These types of sandwiches involve the wrapping of souvlaki or gyros with tzatziki, tomatoes, onions, French fries and condiments into a pita bread. Tzatziki is a traditional Greek sauce that is made of yogurt, cucumber, lemon juice, garlic, and fresh dill. It is a great dip for vegetables, pita bread, or crackers. You can also serve it with grilled meats, fish, gyros or souvlaki. Feta, which is made from goat’s milk, is the Greece’s national cheese.

Baklava is a typical Greek sweet dessert pastry made of layers of filo filled with chopped nuts and sweetened and held together with syrup or honey. If you are a sweet tooth person, I suggest you to taste because it is very good.PLACE TO EAT AND HAVE FUNIn Patras there are a lot of places in which you can eat and drink everything. One of the best place inwhich you can taste Pita and Souvlaki is : it is in the centre; so meanwhile you eat you can see theSquare and people to walk.In the morning or in the afternoon, There are a lot of café places indoors and outdoors in whichyou can drink a lot types of coffee and tea. You can order it and then drink it on the street or youcan sit and enjoy it, maybe with your friends. There are also many places where you can have snacks. I suggest you to taste the sweet or saladpancakes because there are very good! This is my favourite pancake with Nutella and banana! AMAZING!!!If you want eat a good pizza or pasta, there are a lot of places in the centre where you should stopthere and try it!!Patras is mostly a city for young people. In fact, there is one of the most prestigious Universities inall over Greece.Walking along the streets you can see a lot of students and young people. Therefore, there are greatplaces in which you can have fun.If you want go out in the evening there are also many night clubs, near the centre. The music is notonly in Greek but also in English, so if you don’t know the language, you can sing and dance thesame with your friends! The cocktails are good and cheap …and you have fun!!

ATHENSDuring my experience in Patras, I went a weekend in Athens. Athens is the capital and largest cityof Greece. It is a global city and one of the biggest economic centres in south Eastern Europe. One of the most important place in Athens is The Acropolis. The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above the city of Athensand contains the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, the most famous being the Parthenon. It was very interesting for me because for the first time l could see what I had studied onschoolbooks. I went also in the museum of the Acropolis. The Acropolis Museum is a newarchaeological museum focused on the findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis ofAthens. The museum was built to house every artefact found on the rock and on the surroundingslopes, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece.Another important place is the Greek Parlament.

In front of the building is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, which is guarded by the Evzones, anelite regiment in traditional dress. Every two hours there is the changing of the guard. The Parliament is located near the centre. The centre of Athens is very chaotic: there are a lot shops, restaurants and bars in which you can eat a typical Greek food, but not only!Stavros Niarchos Foundation is another amazing place that I visited in Athens. Stavros NiarchosFoundation is a complex in the bay of Phaliron in Athens which includes new facilities for theNational Library of Greece and the National Opera. The Center was designed by architect RenzoPiano and is being built by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
