Past Continuous Tense ใช้เมื่อไร? -ใช้เล่าเหตุการณ์ใน อดีต For example My family went to the park yesterday. I was eating some snacks. My mom was reading a newspaper. My dad and my brother were playing football. My sister and her friends were playing volleyball. My dog was sleeping under the tree. Structure Affirmative: S + was / were + V.ing. I was reading a text. They were watching TV last night. Negative: S + wasn’t / weren’t + V.ing. I wasn’t reading a text. They weren’t watching TV last night. Question: Was / Were + s + V.ing? Were you reading a text? Yes, I was. / No, I wasn’t. Were they watching TV Yes, they were. / last night? No, they weren’t. การใช้ past continuous & past simple ทั้ง 2 Tense นี้ใช้พูดถึงเหตุการณ์ในอดีตเหมือนกัน ตามหลักแล้ว - Past simple จะพูดถึงเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดแล้วจบแล้วในอดีตโดยมีการระบุเวลาที่แน่นอน เช่น I called her last night. - Past continuous tense จะใช้พูดถึงเหตุการณ์ที่กำลังเกิดขึ้นในอดีต เช่น He was watching football match at 8 p.m. yesterday. เมื่อนำมาสอง Tense หลักการใช้จะเป็นดังนี้ค่ะ 1. Past continuous tense ==> พูดถึงเหตุการณ์ที่ เกิดก่อน และกำลังเกิดอยู่ 2. Past simple tense ==> เหตุการณ์ที่ เกิดทีหลัง หรือเข้ามาขัดจังหวะ หมากำลังวิ่งเป็นเหตุการณ์ที่ A car hit the dog เกิดก่อนและกำลังเกิดขึ้นอยู่ as it was running on จึงใช้ past continuous และรถมาชนหมาเป็นเหตุการณ์ the road ที่เกิดที่หลังและมาขัดจังหวะ รถยนต์คันหนึ่งชนหมา จึงใช้ past simple ขณะที่มันกำลังวิ่งบนถนน

การใช้ while และ when She was sleeping on the bed when he came in her house. When he came in her house , she was sleeping on the bed . While Anna was having breakfast ,the telephone rang. The telephone rang while Anna was having breakfast. ในประโยคข้างบนจะสังเกตว่ามี คำเชื่อม while กับ as เชื่อม สองประโยคนี้เข้าด้วย กันแปลว่า “ในขณะที่” และ when แปลว่า “ตอนที่/ เมื่อ” โดยที่... • ==> ประโยคที่อยู่หลัง while, as (ขณะที่) เราจะใช้ past continuous • ==> ประโยคที่อยู่หลัง when (เมื่อ, ตอนที่) เราจะใช้ past simple
