INTRODUCTION ► Uttarakhand also known as Uttaranchal. ► Uttarakhand is also referred as the :Lord of Gods”. ► Its also a state in northern India crossed by the Himalayas and is also known for its Hindu pilgrimage sites. ► Uttarakhand is known for its natural beauty of the Himalayas, the bhabhar and the Terrai.
1.MAP ► There are total of 13 districts in Uttarakhand which are grouped into two Kumon and Garwahl. ► Uttarakhand is India's fastest growing states. Poverty level is lower compared to other states. ► The largest district in Uttarakhand is haridwar[2011]. ► And Champawat is the smallest district in Uttarakhand. ► The winter capital of Uttarakhand is Dehradun and summer capital is Gairsain.
2.Traditional Dresswear ► Uttarakhand is famous in india for its rich culture music and dance. ► Silver and gold are part of Uttarakhand attire. ► If you visit Uttarakhand, you will find women wearing gold kundal (earrings) and often having multiple piercings in their ears. ► Uttarakhand inhabits people are from different ethnic backgrounds like Rajputs, Brahmins and tribal population like Tharu, Jaunsari, Bhotia, among others. Therefore the traditional attires do have a lot of variation.
3.Different Ethnic Backgrounds ► There are many different types ethnic backgrounds and tribal groups like; 1. Rajputs 2. Brahmins 3. Tharu 4. Jaunsari 5. Bhotia
4.Five folk dances of Uttarakhand ► 1.Pandav Nirthya- It tells the tale of the five hero's of Hindu Mythology from start to end. On the last day of Pandava Nirthya, a grand feast is organised for the villagers.
► 2. Bhootia Dance- The Bhotiyas are an ancient tribe of Uttarakhand, and the namesake dance is performed by them is closely linked to their death rituals. By performing the Bhotiya dance, the soul of the dead can be liberated from the animal’s body. Also called as the dance of dead.
► 3. Choliya Dance-Choliya dance is the sword dance, meant to depict the martial art traditions of the Kumaoni tribe. This dance form is as old as a thousand years, and it is performed during the local Rajput weddings.
► 4. Jhora Dance- Jhora dance is a springtime celebration performed by the local people by moving - around in circles. Besides springtime, this dance is also performed during weddings and local fairs.
► 5. Mukhota Dance- It is another interesting dance . performed at a fair organised in the month of Vaishakha. Participants wear traditional clothing and masks that are made to resemble various deities and demons.

Food of Uttarakhand ► Since India is a land of varied culture each of its state has its own cuisine too. ► The state food of Uttarakhand is Kafuli. ► Cuisine of Uttarakhand are Gahat soup, stuffed ghat chapatis, Kofta, Chainso and Urad ke Pakore ► The famous fruit of Uttarakhand is Khumani (Apricot). ► Its rich in iron and Potassium. ► And the famous sweet in Uttarakhand is Bal Mithai.
7. Famous Temple ► Kedarnath temple- Its one of the most popular Shaivism sites in Uttarakhand. Its located about 223 km from Rishikesh. ► Its believed that the temple was built by guru Adi Shankaracharya. ► The temple has an impressive stone architecture. ► Here lord Shiva is manifested in the form of Jyotirlinga or the cosmic light.
